@Dalton01Baby If the steel is long enough, the end never gets hot - there's a temperature gradient. Sometimes you can use hands, sometimes you use gloves, and sometimes you use tongs.
You look like Lauren Faust. OMG Are you Lauren Faust? If you are, not only did you make some of my favorite shows but you also are a blacksmith like me?
great work! of course everyone is an expert and if your not doing it their way your wrong. But anything you make yourself always is well worth the effort. thanks for posting
nice work, and for thoses haters God love them..lol funny how your way is the wrong way, but in the end like you said it got done and the way you like it
I'd like to see some suggestion of a "hand guard" to give it a little more variance. I REALLY like the swirl you brought back up. My criticism comes from a illustrators perspective and not a blacksmiths so take it with a grain of salt.
You're really good. Though I'm starting to think that youtube just uses hot girls for everything just to attract people to watch it. You're probably one of the only actual PROFESSIONAL hot girls on youtube who actually knows what she's doing. Good job! :)
Great work! only suggestion i would say is junk yards have all sorts of coil springs and they make great knife blades. and a recomendation 50$ knife shop by wayne goddard if you really want an excellent starter book, covers everything from materials to tools forging and/or stock removal, plus the tempering heat treating process, and great little section about tribal smithing. i have made 6-7 knives due to that book and i had zero blacksmithing experience.
a beautyfull young lady, with a very beautyfull hobby! i cant decide, what is more beautyfull, u or the knife? but i think the knife cant beat u :-)
is this one of your hobbys? your hammer strikes look trained. not like they look from the first times. the knive is very nice. it looks like, that u know what to do. is this your own anvil?
good job! Ignore all the comments with obvious advice. You have prolly smithed more than they have (except perhaps in WOW or some other game) :) I hate doing rat-tails (round tapers) or any other taper really by hand. & My last knife with a tapered "striker" type handle wasn't as ascetically pleasing as yours & well, I been at this since I was your age or younger (I'm kinda old ) :)
BEUTIFUL KNIFE BUT U SHOULD USE TONGS BECUASE IF U GRAB THAT METAL AND ITS TO HOT IT WIL BURN LIKE A MOFO NOT TO MENTION U MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO USE UR HAND AGAIN JUST TRY NOT TO HURT YOUR SELF:)
Kick ass. I love it. It is also kinda hot seeing a good looking girl pounding out some metal! As for all you back seat drivers. she did just fine didn't burn her self and handled her hammer fine. The end result was a cool stylish knife. Take your fat asses off your computers close your wow accounts and stop being jealous :)
For those of you saying never do that because its hot unless you leave the metal in for quite some time (at that point it'll melt) then you should be safe by holding the ends. Myself i only use tongs whenever im working with a small piece of metal.
@Dalton01Baby The metal was not hot. It actually takes a while for the metal to heat up all the way down to where I was holding it. I used tongs once it got too warm.
I think she's sexy :).. She already has some nice tools together. I am working on my first project ever. I entered a knife making competition for a survivalist website.
I think im going to go full bore on black smithing. I enjoy this allot!
Fantastic design on the blade. Reminds me of decorative/utilitarian knives you may have found in the 1600's. I hope you haven't given up forging you have a great talent for it.
I want to get into Blacksmithing. I want to make my own swords and armor but I don't know where to start. I live in a suburban neighborhood so I don't think I could have one in my back yard. How do i become an apprentice of a blacksmith? Should I get books on blacksmithing?
@sirchristian12 im on the same page as u man, i just bought a hammer from home depot ($17.99) i too live in the suburbs, but this place is geto so they might not care, lol.
fairly nice blacksmithing but shes like blacksmith 1964 said she was pushing the hammer and not hitting it square and she held the hammer higher up instead of holding the bottom of the hammer.
The beauty of the Universe flows through you in Natures' manifestation of your physical-being and the fine mittelwork performed through your hands... You have a nice technique upon the anvil... ... and the blade is a silent beauty of an invisible Force manifest in steel... No matter the heavy hammer, nor an unfamiliar anvil... ... in the end, that Force- Skill- beheld a beautiful and sturdy blade... A most Excellent blade!
Nice nice, Good setup on the forge. I've been wanting to get started smithing for a while. But i seem to be having issues finding an Anvil...living in alaska makes it hard to find things.
Try choking up on the hammer, it is not cheating. I swing a 5lb hammer choked up and can swing it all day. It is not how hard you can swing it because the hammer should do the work, not your arm. You are just guiding it to the target.
Try lowering your anvil too, it looks too high, should be right about waist high.
Yeah it was my friends forge, only had two hammers both too heavy for me. But whatever it got the job done. I know all about safety ive been blacksmithing since I was 15 and went to school for 4 years for metal fabrication.
@Burnouthappy so why aren't you wearing safety glasses and wearing a polyester blend blouse that will melt to your skin if it catches fire? You'll look just as good in cotton. Put some glasses on, stand up straight, tuck your elbow in, bounce the hammer (don't push it), and please don't say you know it all (especially about safety) because you clearly don't.
@Burnouthappy not bad for your first knife. Obviously you learn a bit each time you do it, and thanks to the help of all the 'youtube experts' you know a little more. Keep at it, you are doing great!
@Blacksmith1964 Sometimes people don't have the money for all the right tools and garb. It's called making do with whatcha got. If you want real saftey, invest in shades for when looking into the forge and earplugs. I'd rather have my hearing and sight than cry over a bit of hot slag burning on my skin.
@Blacksmith1964 god dammit I fucking hate back seat drivers like you. She did great just fucking say that!! we dont need your pseudo wisdom you dumb shit. Oh and she did do great. good for you, love your videos seen all of them :)
Wow. I'm astonished. You are a movie come true! The hammer is FAR too heavy for her. You can tell because she's "pushing" the hammer instead of hitting the metal fair and square.
The hammer also goes all over the place. A sure sign of loss of control.
And I would strongly suggest a leather apron for her or anyone else trying this craft. Safety people!
Blacksmith1964 1 year ago 3
