  • Great video! Cleveland's BRT looks very efficient and clean.

  • i really like BRT systems mainly because they are cost effective and they work mainly at the surface, unlike subways.

In metro systems we are just burried alive. Terrible for nice looking cities.

  • if anyone wants to look how good a BTR system works look for transmilenio or curitiba

  • Here in Ireland, we recently proposed a bus rapid transit line, and out of all the transport proposals in my country, this is one of the few I like. It costs a fraction of what metro/rapid transit/tram costs, and has the same efficiency.

  • @mjakes20 I am just wondering how will they actually implement it on the narrow Dublin roads/streets which are already way too congested - they can't remove a traffic lane from operation in favor of the BRT because that would create chaotic situations. Fingers crossed they will make the Dublin BRT come true - but I am afraid it will fail...

  • @mjakes20 Well the main route they are looking at doesn't really doesn't go through the city centre, and it is barely in the planning stages, but yeah fingers crossed. What I'm worried about is the new Luas line going from the terminal of the green line, through the very tight and narrow busiest part of the city centre and up to broombridge. That's been confirmed, and wow will that be chaotic.

  • Cleveland RTA was gracious enough to loan Indianapolis one of their BRT's for IndyConnect Day at the State Fair to show what transit would be like on several lines should the IndyConnect plan go through. It was awesome! And there was so much positive reaction from patrons.

  • Lol, notice there's an Emergency box in everyone. Don't want you getting robbed while paying for your ticket! I'm from Cleveland and I miss it so much. But I don't miss being downtown at night catching the bus! Lol

  • Want to create a BRT system that's cheap and actually makes a difference, go with trolley buses(bi-articulated).

  • BRT "Silverline" was approved in Grand Rapids on May 3rd. Mileage goes into effect in 2012. Cant wait to see it go up.

  • @NetoBus

There's a BRT line in New York that can carry about 60,000 passengers/direction/hour. Most heavy rail lines run at about 30,000 passengers/hour/direction. Also, BRT is just as fast as metro because it gets its own lane. The problem with subways is that they cost hundreds of millions of dollars per mile to build because its very expensive to dig tunnels. That's why they are not built much anymore.

  • Cont. - RTA faces route and budget cuts yearly. That reason alone is enough to assume this service will not be expanded to other areas. This was a test and nothing more. Plus, the Rapid already does a good job of serving the East side and University Circle. With another route and/or expansion of existing service, Rapid will serve the community even better without burning fuel and adding to Cleveland's already grim outlook on air quality.

  • First thing - how would you know what works for Cleveland?! You are from Grand Rapids! Second - Euclid Avenue has ALWAYS seen development in the immediate downtown area, and always will. It is a major east/west route in the area. Unfortunately, it passes through some very dilapidated neighborhoods, and will most likely never see much of the possible funding for more major projects. Lastly - you didn't even bother to mention that Cleveland is failing in economic development, and fast. RTA faces

  • We need these here in Columbia,SC

  • This puts LA's Orange Line BRT to shame.

  • One more thing for any others interested in a project like this - you need to think about organizing your town with a monorail system - much less costly, more energy efficient, less polluting (air and noise), and less dangerous traffic on your city streets making it safer for pedestrians

  • I moved away from Cleveland after living there most of my life, and I have to say the Euclid Ave. bus rapid transit line sucks BALLS and it goes NOWHERE useful. It was built as a test route with plans for expansion to the rest of the city, which RTA will never have funding for. All of the RTA owned systems in Cleveland basically suck, with the exception of the Rapid Light Rail system.

  • @GlassMachineZ i thought it was funny how he only showed the one new section of euclid ave. it looks nice here but in reality it's a fucking joke.

  • @hissingfetus I definitely agree!!

  • @GlassMachineZ what a troll. This line connects downtown (largest concentration of workers) with university circle (second highest concentration of workers) with a modern, frequent BRT. Its an incredibly forward-thinking project that has spurred literally BILLIONS of dollars of development on Euclid Avenue. Its an excellent solution thats perfect for Cleveland right now.

  • @rapidyes Has the Grand Rapids BRT system been completed yet and do you have any video of it?

  • @utterbullspit Grand Rapids did not pass the millage put to vote in 2009. Thanks for your interest!

  • @utterbullspit BRT "Silverline" was approved on May 3rd 2011 by voters. Construction will start soon. Mileage goes into effect in 2012. 1/3 of the Mileage will go towards operating Silverline. The rest will go towards increasing frequency and extending service past 12M.

  • please can you tell me the advantages and disadvantages of BRT coz our city Government is going to make one soon but the other Goverment agencies wants LRT please...needs some answers

  • GRAND RAPIDS = FAIL!!!!!!!

  • I think Cleveland has the most well executed BRT system in America right now. I think it's the best looking one too.

  • BRT is original system from Curitiba Brazil.

The system was created in 1974 and today there are many bi-articulate buses on the system.

Brt is a great and cheap solutions for the big cities.

  • @DjiEventos cheap solutions for big cities, sounds like a very low quality of life.

  • boston has one called the silver line

  • BRT is the future of urban mass transit. Cities all over the world have them.

  • @meeloothekid yeah and just look at how great they run in really large overseas cities, especially ones the where the rail systems are WAY more dependable, and faster too. Yeahhh BRT is so great!!! These buses probably NEVER breakdown, and I bet these run on ELECTRICITY, just like the ELECTRIC trolleys overseas. Places like Germany have them everwhere!!! :PPPP You know Cleveland really sets the American example, NICE bus, NICE bus stop, and OMG an electric ticket counter just like a subway. WTF

  • They're going to make a BRT in my city too almost just like this one. J. I hope it comes out sleek.

  • See, Cleveland did it the right way. It sort of looks like a light rail system. They've done a great job.

  • VIA Bus of San Antonio will get new BRT in 2012. BRT will run on Fredericksburg Road through Medical Dr.

  • Cleveland looks very clean and modern, like Germany......good work

  • @visionaer21 They've cleaned up Cleveland. It used to be a very dirty industrial city.

  • @visionaer21 Please; you can't compare Cleveland to a "modern" city in Germany: Colonge, Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin,or even Dusseldorf. Have you ever been there seriously??? It's like stepping 20 years in the future, Cleveland is so behind!!!

  • Seattle is building five lines of BRT right now. They will all be operational in the next three years.

  • Nice vid! I ride it almost everyday to and from work :D

  • Great video!

What's the name of that song?

  • Minneapolis is going to implement a BRT soon also I believe. Looks pretty cool, now I know what to expect.

  • andy I loved your video...I checked it out as we are installing brt here in san antonio..we are in final stage prep for system opening in 2012.....we voted couple years ago to be an advanced transportation district and then along came this plan for brt...

  • This would be great to have in Grand Rapids! It would bring a new group of riders if it's more convenient and faster. I've used mass transit in other countries. We need to get on the bus here too!
