I'm from the UK where this is not so much of an issue in the black community. That said and speaking as a black man, I've never seen what the fuss is about. Beauty has nothing to do with skin tone. I've seen pretty and ugly light and dark skinned girls. Personally, given a choice, I'm one of those seemingly rare types that prefers dark chocolate to caramel (more sexy, IMO). I get annoyed when people say "all black men want lightskinned women" because it's a generalisation and not true.

I think if you are more favoured over other people (this includes, race, skin colour,height, features etc) then it can definitely build up your confidence, when in the presence of less favoured people. I cant even believe that this topic is still a topic- we (meaning black women) regardless of the exact pigmentation of your skin are still of the same gene pool- ie. we are all still black. Darker -skinned women reaction comes from their constant rejection and put downs for being darker-skinned sometimes by lighter-skinned women , black women and white society. It is part of the psychology of racism. As in Aisa, India and parts of Africa where whites have controlled. In India darker- skinned people are treated horribly. I'm not light skined nor would I be considered dark skined by my peers, however all of my closest friends have quite a darker complexion than mine or my daughters and actually discuss me with thier comments. At a gathering some commented on my lil girls dolls (ones her complexion and other has a darker tone. no white dolls as its not a representation of herself) saying the light one is more acceptable and darker 1 is scarey.

I'm from the UK where this is not so much of an issue in the black community. That said and speaking as a black man, I've never seen what the fuss is about. Beauty has nothing to do with skin tone. I've seen pretty and ugly light and dark skinned girls. Personally, given a choice, I'm one of those seemingly rare types that prefers dark chocolate to caramel (more sexy, IMO). I get annoyed when people say "all black men want lightskinned women" because it's a generalisation and not true.

I've watch this WHOLE video from beginning to end, i 100% agree with your opinions. Personally, i prefer light skin woman over dark skin, NOTHING that i got anything against them. It's just a personal opinion. This is a 17 year black male's opinion. 21st century is f*cking right, though. And yes, i think your very beautiful and attractive. Keep the head up and keep going to direction your going. I'm proud of all light skin ppl and I'm honored to have them in our race :D

I think everyone wants what they dont have. This is more of a biological / scientific preference than a racist one. Curly hair women want straight hair.. white women want dark skin... raven haired arabs often like blondes.. the grass is always greener on the other side...

All I can say is that Willie Lynch is doing the moonwalk in his grave if he sees all these blogs based on interracial prejudice. Also to some degree, confidence is the by-product of this thing called self fulfilling prophecy. I think if you are more favoured over other people (this includes, race, skin colour,height, features etc) then it can definitely build up your confidence, when in the presence of less favoured people. Therefore to some degree people's confidence comes from outside approval

I cant even believe that this topic is still a topic- we (meaning black women) regardless of the exact pigmentation of your skin are still of the same gene pool- ie. we are all still black. At the end of the day regardless of the way you have been treated, say for example been treated better than one who is darker.
Thanks for posting the video- and I am sorry that you even felt the need to post it cause as black people there are way more important things to be discussing/debating.

just watched your vid. I am a light skinned black man. I personally don't care for talking to light skinned black women. For the simple reason they try waaaaay to hard 2 be black. I honestly am not trying to be offensive by saying that. They just seem 2 try to compensate for what they feel people think they aren't. They always talk about how they love some super dark male talk play music from like a 100 years ago and rock salvation army clothes or do anything 2 the extreme 2 prove their black.

@edmnsnvilig hmmm...as a light skinned black woman i can definitely see the need for us to try n act "xtra black". 1st, some black women of darker tones can make us feel SOOO uncomfortable n try n tell us that we're not black so it makes us feel like we have to prove ourselves to our OWN RACE which is stupid n ignorant. Darker -skinned women reaction comes from their constant rejection and put downs for being darker-skinned sometimes by lighter-skinned women , black women and white society. It is part of the psychology of racism. As in Aisa, India and parts of Africa where whites have controlled. In India darker- skinned people are treated horribly. In Latin America many darker -skinned people are oppressed and ridiculed. It started 500 years ago and was a divide and conquer brainwashing by Europeans

Well said sis. This is such a BIG issue. I'm not light skined nor would I be considered dark skined by my peers, however all of my closest friends have quite a darker complexion than mine or my daughters and actually discuss me with thier comments. At a gathering some commented on my lil girls dolls (ones her complexion and other has a darker tone. no white dolls as its not a representation of herself) saying the light one is more acceptable and darker 1 is scarey.

Man, sorry bree but I really tired of hearing about light vs. dark. We black people just have serious issues. Light vs. dark. hatians vs. Jamaican. No other races seem to have this problem but us. I'm light skinned (actually Im not that light I the same complexion as tyra) and I feel like I have to be extra nice to darker skinned women so they don't think Im conceited and Im far from it.
