It never really tells you Who wins. I think Either the USA or USSR Nuke the final Battle Ground (Almost like Preditor: If I dont Win you don't win) Coresing a massive nuclear fire Across the globe. Before I tell something I want to say that I didn't play the game but I heard some stuff from my friend who beat the game:

It's tongue-in-cheek. The developers of this game weren't even American.(Swedes, I think). That's partly what makes it such a great ending: It's over the top, glorified, and congratulatory, the perfect thing for a player who has just completed a very difficult mission. It's more about the player's experience than it is about individual nations, anyway. There's even an expansion where you play the soviets and it's the exact same jingoism in reverse. It's the corniness of Red Dawn in game form.

of course, but every player wants to be the "white knight", or at least have a strong justification for the part they play. There is a lot of cliche in this game, but it's intentional. The characters and plot devices are straight from hollywood, and that's the whole theme of the game. Also, the US in the game is imperfect: they use chemical weapons, nukes friendly territory, screw over NATO allies, etc. I look forward to the ex pack though! This is a good game mechanically. The plot is just fun!

The whole idea of a Soviet Invasion of the US is rather silly when you look at the facts. The fact of the Matter is that the Soviets never had the sealift copacity to deliver an sizable invasion force across the pacific. The US by far had a larger navy (big CVN Fleet and sub fleet). At least Red Alert does not take itself seriously with it's tesla tanks and Airships and such.

Saying a game can't be historically accurate unless it doesn't take itself seriously, a la Red Alert, is a bit harsh. It narrows things a -lot-. That'd be goodbye to BioShock, goodbye to Mass Effect, goodbye to Halo, and all the other games not deemed "historically accurate".

I mean, the idea of a game being -fun- is silly when you look at the facts...

Fun factor aside, the fact is that unlike the Red Alert Saga, which is pure cheese, world in conflict tries to present itself as realistic. The fact of the matter was that from the top down, an invasion of the US beyond taking Alaska if WWIII started was not what was planned, but a conquest of Europe (which would have been the same gameplay, basically, but in Europe). World in Conflict was suposed to be realistic by design, but had unrealistic elements in it such as the invasion of the US...
