A little advice to brand new players: The old folks will be crying about 4.0 vs 3.5 for the next 20 years, so as soon as someone starts moaning about that, ignore them. They're absolutely biased and you won't be getting an impartial opinion. So...I can honestly say that this box set is actually a very good intro for brand new players. It's an intro, not the full game with all its depth and such. And that's perfect for new players. Great value for the $ too. You'll get many hours of play here.

I almost bought this at a store, i thought it was classic D&D but turns out it was 4.0, no thanks... It's also a bit disappointing, i bought a startr kit for 3.5 and it came with a full players handbook (Allbeit a paperback), a pre made solo dungeon, multicolored dice, a set of miniatures, and a battle grid. Oh not to mention a packet of character sheets. It's sad that D&D has gone downhill so much.

Don't buy the Starter Set. If you're looking to get into D&D 4E this set will only confuse the hell out of you. The "logic" behind the boxes contents is downright strange. Namely, the choice of included power cards. Also, the character sheet (which is not "official"). Also, character "development" in the Players Guide ("Your Str is this as a Fighter". huh?). Just get the Players Handbook, the set of boxed power cards for the class you like and skip this set.

You do get a LOT of stuff in that box and it really is a fantastic way to introduce 4th Edition D&D to new players. Great value for money!

dude I got the 2006 one this one is amazing compared to it! the 2006 one sucked it didnt even have character sheets it came with pre made characters and crap it SUCKS though there was 4 double sided dungeon tiles(cardboard) but that has tokens insteed of actually characters and stuff though soooo yeah

@koora8 The best way to learn is to find a group that plays, but next to that, this is probably the best place to start.

i just got PC D&D game , neverwinter nigts 2 , still i bet the paper and pen is more fun with others.

@koora8 This is definitely the best way to start. At $20, it one of the cheaper D&D products, which makes it great for just testing the waters. The only thing it's really missing is pre-made characters. The character creation process is pretty tedious, and is what's most likely to turn off potential new players to the game, even before they even start playing.

@starfry25 you can choose/ jsut because the picture is male doesnt mean your character has to be. There are no statistical differences between male and female characters they are both even in game terms. Hope you have fun =)
