got that same motor in my 76 gmc van, runs perfect. i put headers and dual 3' exhaust, it really roars and got some nice power. just installed a pair on sensa trac shocks in the front, if anyones looking for a desent used pair of monroe sensatrac load levelers, let me know.
I have a Chevy g20 with a factory 350 5.7L with flow masters
my problem is the darn thing start's fine run's for a good ten minute's and completely shuts down and when she's cold if i mash the gas there's this squeal coming from the carb or injector's not sure... it's not the fuel pump i don't think, reason being i can hear it humming when i turn the key! i change the gas line filter that wasn't it... do i need a new carb or injector's ?need help....any one please!
The engine I chose to power my '41 Chev p/u is out of a '78 C20 van. I put the premium higher tin/nickle block to good use. Next to the cross-bolted variety, it's the best I have used, good stroker block.
No, I see what you mean; it has got something to do with the video or the program I used for editing it. Would be weird if it leaked like that, right? =)
i miss vans like these. my dad had a 1981 for ecoline line6 engine. not sure what size it was. but it was a great van. it would have still be running if i had it this day. but the axle snapped. lot of miles were put onto it and the oil wasnt changed like it was suppose to. nice van man.
tbi is a great fuel injection system though. they are very easy to work and deliver better fuel economy and drive-ability than a carb. i own a 1989 camaro with a 305 and a 91 cavalier with a 2.2 tbi. both have been great cars and give me far fewer problems than more "modern" cars.
You want to switch from TBI to carburator or so, 'cause currently you got no carburator on it. You can change everything, but not worth the time I think.
My opinion is that this is great for maintenance, but when you want to replace your engine you`ve got more problems when you need to dismantle almost the whole front of the car. Replacing your transmission is way easier than a regular car.
When it rained/snowed, it won`t handle that great when your driving to fast and rough, but that must be normal for rear wheel drive =)
I've got a 78 G10 (half ton, short wheelbase) which I've beefed the suspension on (bigger springs, Bilstein shocks and a slight lowering). It handles very well, I've surprised a few people in the curvy sections of Pacific Coast Highway, some punk in a Range Rover "Sport" found that out the hard way recently.

Maintaining cars like this is so much easier, that's why I prefer to have cars untill the end 70's.
I'm sure more people think the same about it.

keep TBI its better for fuel economy. You can always get a performance TBI unit if you want more power.

what kind of exhaust is that? and can i put one of those carbs on my 1990 350 motor 5.7 liter?
keylow4 3 years ago
This is one original Quadrajet, you already got on your Van I guess? Don't you got a TBI (injection) engine then?
The exhaust are just two cherrybombs, straight after the original manifolds; a make it yourself exhaust.

Does the access panel/tunnel have to be unbolted to gain access?
tpvalley 4 years ago
The trayholder need to be removed, then you`ve got the two bolts on the bottom and two handles on the side to have access.

Quite good weight distribution with the engine being quite far back?
I saw a van like this being chased by police on tv in the snow, it handled quite good.
