  • awesome and Vigier rules! ^^

  • very nice!!

  • Thank you for posting a video of a fretless guitar that's not guitarded. I dig the tune!

I'm pulling the frets off of my second guitar this weekend and was looking for inspiration. 99% of the videos on YouTube are displays of complete douchebaggery.

  • Could you possibly post a higher quality mp3 recording? I absolutely love this and want to listen to it all the time...

  • This is beautiful

  • DADGAD tuning?

  • That is a nice composition but I'm not sure if I can take another song like this. Sorry.

  • I Love this

  • sound very beautiful

  • Do you suffer from fret buzz?

Oh wait you don't have them haha.

  • superbe !

  • u got tabs to this song?

    oh wait...

  • reminds of while my guitar gently weeps :) (no offence meant :) very nice sound and well played man :)

  • reminds of while my guitar gently weeps :) (no offence meant :)

  • your playing is greatt! btww

WATCH THIS! this guy is a great fretless guitar plater!!

    watch?v=72iB8jYNbDk&feature=related

    you wont regret it! (:

  • what chords or tabs are you playing?

    like that man ;)

  • Must be a bitch to play tabs...

  • Great sound!

    I want my Vigier Surfreter!

  • I love the sound. What effects are you running?

  • how many frets haves this guitar?

  • @3xVxC iether that was a joke or your retarded as fuck

  • @megadan429 is a joke, but could be taken as, how many octaves or tones produce that fingerboard, and a question, how many frets equals that fingerboard? 22? or 24?

  • @3xVxC -.-.... im not even gunna say nothin... bye

  • @megadan429 What he's saying makes perfect sense. It could either have the length of a 24-fret neck, in which case you have the same range as 24 guitar frets, or a 22- fret neck, in which case you have the same range as 22 guitar frets. You either have a full two-octave neck ('24 fret') or not ('22 fret').

  • @Vanguard448 like i said.. im not gunna say nuthin

  • His face at the end is priceless.

  • actually it's like the good the bad and the ugly soundtrack

I'd love to own a guitar like this

  • Fucking makes my mind jump instantly to Unicorn by Gojira. Beautiful sound you have on that instrument, man.

  • Is it tough to play chords with it? if you want to play a normal slide or slide a power chord, can I have the same sound I'd have with a fretted guitar? I wanna defret my guitar, but I need to gather some info first lol. BTW, how do I defret it?

    Thank you.

  • Those slides are magical!!!!

  • Nice :D

  • my god you are incredible!!

  • Can u put a Floyd in it? What's the range? 22 or 24 Frets? Why does it sound like a bottleneck slide? Still, amazing work dude?

  • @jvms111 it sounds like that because it has no frets (or rather, one huge fret that covers the whole thing) and you can problably put a floyd rose, but there is no point in doing so.

  • I love the tone that your guitar gets is there anything special that it has pickups, preamp? also is that a metal fingerboard? I pulled the frets out of my 8-string and am looking to get a tone just like your, oh by the way the song is incredible!!!!!

  • i like it

  • Excellent. Beautiful playing and tone.

  • Tho's guitar's are mega weird.

  • Comment removed

  • Sounds great. Love the textures to the music.

  • Oh my God. I am completely in love with this:]

  • Très jolie musique =)

Du coup avec une fretless, plus besoin de bottleneck ^^

  • Dude, why aren't you famous?

Also, what tuning is this, if i really wanted to, I could figure it out from when you played those open harmonics, but i'm too tired... :P

  • This is really cool, dude. Good job.

  • Great playing and nice guitar :)

  • you kinda look like cobain.....but awesome song..nice effect....20 out of 5

  • Beautiful Song

  • you look like jerry cantrell. songs awesome.

  • That's a very nice guitar. A very nice tune. And you're very good. :)

  • Instant subscriptions. I've been looking at some fretless guitars and I don't know if I'm going to take the dive and switch over.

That's a beautiful guitar, did you customize it's fretboard or buy the guitar like that ?(I only ask because fretless guitars are rare and usually more expensive than it would be otherwise)

  • @TheRainfallen This guitar is a Surfreter Vigier guitar. It's not a custom guitar, you can buy those guitars like that in France.

  • bro what amplifier are you using? sounds very good

  • You sound like Jaco on guitar man! Nice!

  • so if u don't have a radius

doesn't that make it harder for bending?

  • Nice! I just made a fretless this week. Check out my Indian-esque improv.

  • your intonation is spot on dude, i have trouble playing exactly in tune on my fretless bass - and thats just one note at a time haha! awesome stuff man.

  • Jeeesus, you must've paid insane amounts of money for that guitar. Cheapest one I can find is around $3000. Which is insane.

    I love that sound! Gawd!

  • tops

  • Beautiful man, sounds like violins

  • great tune

  • i wondered what fretless guitars sounded like but now i know

    particulier.

ton morceau est magnifique et planant!!!

  • where can i download this?

  • Excellent dude ! I did some fretless crap myself...just doesn't sound as good !

  • Grandiose, c'est planant, j'ai cru que la musique durée une éternité. Pure merveille !

  • great job man

  • Beautiful song! i was curious about fretless guitars and found your vid...keep em coming.

  • Amazing!

  • search the erkan oğur- fretless gitar.. he is king of the fretless guitar.. this bad

  • Wow, amazing dude! I so want a fretless guitar!!!

  • Sounds very opeth like to me

  • wait whats the name of this song? did this dude right it? its fucking amazing it reminds me of an entire orchestra playing music, and it also reminds me of music you'd hear in a martial arts movie after someone was killed

this is fucking amazing someone plz reply and tell me if its his or what, cuz if he wrote this than this guy should have a record deal, its badass enough that he's playing it.

  • I don't know if this song remind you a martial art movie, but it's my own composition :-)

    It's not a cover

  • wow man freaking amazing job. i keep coming back to this video. to hear it again

  • @cchhrriissttt Well, at some points sounds like a japanese soundtrack. It's great, first time I hear a fretless guitar, congratulations.

  • @xmanbearpigx14 Perhaps a martial arts movie, but definitely a final fantasy game!

  • wow amazing :D:D

  • were do you get these?

  • You would have to memorize the tone of each mark

  • It depends if your fretless guitar has markers on the board indicating where the notes are. I wouldn't worry though, it's pretty noticeable when you aren't hitting a clean note.

  • Is there a zero fret that has to be replaced?

Am I right to think that this fretless guitar requires the least maintenance of all guitars?

  • its like better than slide guitar its so smooth and slinky.. its hypnotizing

  • very bad ass thx for sharing

  • pretty!

  • how do u play a fretless guitar do u have to press down harder or anything

  • not really, no. you just have to practise, practise and even more practise because fretless instruments have to be played with the ears

    (sorry for my bad english)

  • not if you have dots on the neck or have marked where the frets would be.

  • and I guess it is a good way of improving your ears

  • @HorstHorstmann202 But in this video it seems he is playing it with his fingers....^^

  • I think it is the same with any frettless instument, you have to press the string hard till it touches the neck

  • Comment removed

  • is it like playing a violin???

  • badass shit man

  • The fretless (classic) guitar was invented in 1976 by Erkan Oğur.

  • Woah, I didnt know there was such thing as a fretless guitar....I only knew of fretless bass

  • i think delta metal is an extremely hard wood

  • No, delta metal is a metal alloy.

  • it kind of reminds me of pink floyd but it also sounds like a song that belongs in a game like zelda or something

  • yup, this vid is still good. love it man.

  • Is it okay for playing open chords?

  • love the tone

  • how much money did it cost?

  • Say, that fretboard is flat or does it have a radius??

  • Flat

  • could you tell me what kind of material the fingerboard is made of?

  • According to the Vigier website, it's made of "Delta Metal". They don't say what exactly it is.

  • interesting.... thanks!

  • that's awesome! did you make that guitar? or where did you get it?

  • It's a Vigier guitar, they are well known for making fretless electric guitars.

  • nice

  • Nice, I'm in the process of converting my acoustic to fretless. Your guitar has great sound.

    Were you in standard tuning?

Any way, that was pretty smooth playing.

  • The tuning is D G C F A D

  • Yeah! C'est fou comment ca sonne bien une fretless

  • you look like you went retaded at the end

  • beautiful my friend *__*

  • good stuff bro!

  • Do you have to use heavy strings on a fretless guitar?

  • The look at the end is priceless!

  • dude, i've been diggin' this tune for a grip. i'm thinkin' about converting my backup to fretless. puttin it on my favorites list now.

  • J'adore ce que tu joues. On entends l'intérêt de la fretless. Je rentre bientôt dans le club des Excalibur :) (mais pas fretless)

  • I don't use a flanger, only a short delay.

  • awe inspiring.

  • such a beautiful sound.

    nice one dude.

  • Fantastic ! I love your playing and your sound. Continue "fretlessing" well !

  • i like it

  • what guitar are you using? Did you have to get it custom?

  • its a vigier surfreter!(spelling?)just shearch 4 it on google.

  • Yes, Its a Surfreter from Vigier

  • Thats beautiful mate. The sounds are quite amazing. the guitar is such an amazing intstrument.

  • My wife just said, BEAUTIFUL! And so it is!

    :-)

    cheers

    WILLEM FROM HOLLAND

  • Thanks Willem !! ;-)

  • impressive, makes me as a simple guitar player quite depressive

  • flatwounds for guitar?

  • Yes. They are actually quite common among jazz players. They give a very mellow sound and are very similar in appearance to violin strings.

  • amazing!

  • that was awsome, the look at the end was awsome too

  • i guess he doesnt have to worry about frett buzz anymore xD

  • man thats such a beautiful sound. im a drummer and even i would choose that guitar over any kit!

    great playing :)

  • how did you remove the frets on this guitar?

or, if I just took my cheap-ass strat rip off guitar and ripped out the frets with pliers, would that do harm?

  • Hey,

I wish I could tell you myself, but may I highly suggest doing a google search of how to do that on a bass guitar(seeing as their will probably be more hits). If you find the time, checking out talkbass would be a great start if you`re interesting in doing such a project.

  • yea that's probably a better idea...I have an old-ass bass i bought on ebay for like 50 bucks. It doesn't even work anymore, so if i mess it up too much, there really isn't much loss.

  • You have to be careful, take them slowly, and put some tape at the sides of the fret, so you don't take off any chips when you pull the frets. Then you will have to fill the fret slots with some veneer, otherwise the strings won't have a solid leaning surface. Color-contrasting wood will leave the lines as a reference for when you are playing. Then paper-sand with (for example) 240 grit -> then 400 grit. Playing such instrument would be really difficult, though, specially chords. Good luck.

  • I forgot, filling the frets is done with wood veneer and with glue (carpenter glue, the white one).

  • ummm yeah, those fretless guitars are made fretless, with a steel fretboard

  • Awesome, love the tone/playing.

  • I Love the sound of your guitar great playing !

  • Dude, you look like f**king Jerry Cantrell.

  • For sure he looks like Cantrell :D

  • Is this a glissentar?

  • No, Glissentars have 11 strings.

  • Ha! Nice! Thanks, I learned something new!

  • what were you about to say at the end ? :)

  • Ahh c'est uhhh... comment dit-on, fucking sweet. ;D

  • Vraiment pas mal du tout. Bonne continuation.

  • thanks

  • when you remove the frets that kills some of the sustain right?

  • Right, the fretless neck kills a part of sustain. But you can reach some sustain with the vibrato and a good fretboard.

  • Interesting, nice sound.

  • nice Vigier!

i want one in the worst way

  • wow, surtantly doesnt look good...

  • how can you have a fretless guitar?
