Ofra Haza is immortal. She's gone, but left us her voice.That will sound in our ears and minds as long as we live. A pity that she left us so early, at the age of 40. We could have had more sweet songs in her marvellous voice.
It's just a few weeks ago that I discovered her on internet. I immediately fell in love on her voice.I don't understand a single word Hebrew, so imagine that simply adorate her voice.

And it's very pitty that website ofra.haza.co.il. only in Hebrew. It's nearly unpossible to find information about her in russian. And I'm sure lots of people will be happy to know more. In Israel many russian speaking people, so mb it will be possible soon to see all those documentary about Ofra at least with russian subtitles.
The website has its English version now. It is not so rich as its Hebrew version, there are no translation of her interview etc. but I guess it can satisfied English speakers....

As far as I understand it there is uncertainty to this story besides the fact that she died of AIDS-related pneumonia, After her death her husband was accused of passing the disease on to her but without any proof. As far as I know HIV takes an average of 10 years to develop into full-blown AIDS and as a result it is highly unlikely that Ofra contracted AIDS when she got married, she must have gotten it at some time around 1990

Yes, it's true. Well, Ofra was sick for weeks before she entered the hospital. When she finally was admitted, there was really nothing the doctors could do to save her life. She was too far gone. If she were brought to the hospital sooner, then her life would've been saved.
I don't know if Doron was aware that he had HIV, since he was eager to have a test done on himself. After he died, an autopsy was performed, unfortunately his family refused to release the findings.

not all people, for some the affect of being infected can happen within a few days,i know an 18 year girl who was infected within 3 weeks very soon after she almost died and was taken to hospital and thats when she was diagnosed she had only been with one man her whole before she met the guy who knowingly infected her,so for some the effect can be immediate.

Yes, very positive. That beautiful smile and that crystal clear voice reach people- to this day. It is a great testament to her. Pop-diva pages have so much arguing of who is the better singer, Mariah or Whitney- we dont have time for such things- all of them are talented, depends on who "appeals" to you; but Ofra is universally loved. My fav. video is her talking about being from two worlds, and the joy she has in saying it is beautiful and warm. You cant help but smile with her. :-)
I didn't know she was married until recently- we get very little news of her in the U.S. She truly was an ambassador in music and bridged peoples who are otherwise worlds apart. Yes, I did intend that comment for you. I think it got shuffled to the bottom because everyone else was so quick. ;-) I was lucky enough to meet and become friends with my favorite singer, and she is as lovely on the inside as the voice that comes out of her; also briefly met another favorite of mine yrs. ago. Never had the privilege of meeting Ofra or hearing her in concert; but I keep discovering new videos and songs that kind people keep posting, and I thank them very much- it means a lot!
Please dont misunderstand me, but she isn't gone for nothing- certainly there is much more she would have accomplished, but she truly was an ambassador thu music, and I believe she understood this and lived the delicate balance of that role well. Because of her, enemies have their love for her and her music in common. She lives on thru music- her music is in me- it is in you too. As I like to say, she is now the purest voice in heaven.

Ofra was a strong woman, spiritually, mentally. Her family wanted her to marry. They pressured her. She gave in. To a controlling jerk. Amd now look, her family, her fans; we have no Ofra Haza to sing to us!

I love her voice, I know little about her. Other then she died a few years back. What a tragedy. Do we know if the hubby had AIDS for a fact? People can gets AIDs other ways. In any case she was a great talent and no matter how she died she died too young.

Is it just me or did it seem as if he had a smirk on his face the whole time? Her Yemen wedding attire and jewelery were gorgeous. If she did marry him mostly due to family pressure and her desire to have a family, that is sad. He took advantage of her. Such a tragedy.

Does anybody know the details of how Ofra Haza died? People keep saying that her husband was extremely abusive of her, and knowingly infected her with AIDS...is this true? What else is there to this tragedy in modern Jewish existence?

Yes, it's true. Well, Ofra was sick for weeks before she entered the hospital. When she finally was admitted, there was really nothing the doctors could do to save her life. She was too far gone. If she were brought to the hospital sooner, then her life would've been saved.

I don't know if Doron was aware that he had HIV, since he was eager to have a test done on himself. After he died, an autopsy was performed, unfortunately his family refused to release the findings.

Can you imagine how Ofra's family must feel now, especially those who most pressured her to get married? I read somewhere that her brother told her she was a nothing, because she was single and unmarried. While of course it is important, especially for us Jews, to be married and have many wonderful children, it is just as important to marry the right person, or else it is all for nothing...and in Ofra's case, was deadly

i remember Ofra talking to her audience at the montreux festival that her family does not understand the way of life she has chosen (her singing and career), and the way she talks about being in different worlds is heartfelt.

Their marriage wasn't arranged, they were introduced to each other by mutual friends. Ofra didn't want anything to do with him, but he kept bothering her.

How do you know if Shai is stable? Do you know him personally? And Doron did have a police record for domestic disturbances, his first wife said so, she had proof. Also, not all children from abusive homes are messed up.

not all people, for some the affect of being infected can happen within a few days,i know an 18 year girl who was infected within 3 weeks very soon after she almost died and was taken to hospital and thats when she was diagnosed she had only been with one man her whole before she met the guy who knowingly infected her,so for some the effect can be immediate.

I feel sad when I watch this clip - Ofra was such a beautiful, sweet bride, and to see her jerk of a husband fawning over her like that. . .I read that she really didn't even want to marry him, but somehow got pressured into it. Makes me wonder if, in these pictures, if she's really happy, or if she's just putting on a brave face. She deserved a much better man, someone who would have loved her for who she was, not for what she had.

i would have gladly married her for what she was, and adored her for all of eternity. and not only would i not take her money, but i would make sure to support her, so that she could sing what she wants, when she wants, without the pressure of having money interfere with her incomparable art

SWSimpson, Doron Ashkenazi(Ofra's husband) was a drug addict and wife-beater(1st wife). He did nothing to help her when she was in pain, he could've took her to the hospital. There are a lot of things this man did that made it apparent that he did not love Ofra.

Yes, very positive. That beautiful smile and that crystal clear voice reach people- to this day. It is a great testament to her. Pop-diva pages have so much arguing of who is the better singer, Mariah or Whitney- we dont have time for such things- all of them are talented, depends on who "appeals" to you; but Ofra is universally loved. My fav. video is her talking about being from two worlds, and the joy she has in saying it is beautiful and warm. You cant help but smile with her. :-)

I didn't know she was married until recently- we get very little news of her in the U.S. She truly was an ambassador in music and bridged peoples who are otherwise worlds apart. We may never know the true power of the work she has already done. Yes, you are right- her loss is tragic. Just trying to remember the blessings. You're a kind Jewish Teddy Bear.

Yes, I did intend that comment for you. I think it got shuffled to the bottom because everyone else was so quick. ;-) I was lucky enough to meet and become friends with my favorite singer, and she is as lovely on the inside as the voice that comes out of her; also briefly met another favorite of mine yrs. ago. Never had the privilege of meeting Ofra or hearing her in concert; but I keep discovering new videos and songs that kind people keep posting, and I thank them very much- it means a lot!

Please dont misunderstand me, but she isn't gone for nothing- certainly there is much more she would have accomplished, but she truly was an ambassador thu music, and I believe she understood this and lived the delicate balance of that role well. Because of her, enemies have their love for her and her music in common. She lives on thru music- her music is in me- it is in you too. As I like to say, she is now the purest voice in heaven.

Perhaps the pain of her death and being the deliverer of hiv to his bride was too much for him to live with? I am sad for them both. Her song, 'Youve Got a Friend' is comforting- in a way, she is there, as a friend, in her music- it still has power, it is still uplifting- brings hope and joy. She was an amazing, beautiful woman. I love her smile.

Yes, a special energy- and part of that remains though she is gone. I feel that in her music, in her voice, and it continues to help me. I only speak English, yet she still had the power to touch my heart too. One of my favorites: Jerusalem of Gold (in Hebrew). Peace and blessings.

That's what she lived for I guess. I am an artist too and I do what I do to make this world a bettr place, to spread beauty and love, I think that's what she wanted to achieve with her singing. And at least we two are the evidence for her success :-).

Yeah I know that. Poor Ofra, she should've found out more about him. I guess they don't require blood tests before marriage in Israel, I mean if they did and Doron had tested positive for HIV, what would've happen between him and Ofra? I know that Doron married Ofra for her money, it was so obvious. Unfortunately we will never now how she really felt about him or what really happened to sweet Ofra.

I don't know if she made the right choice or the wrong choice to get married. I have to say she made the wrong choice of getting married. If she would have not done that she probably would still be alive today. Such a waste of life!
