Human beings are to depended on their surroundings, governments, and just the world to be human anymore. Now it takes 10 years or more of school education for you to be fit for society. Is that a better world? but back to your speech. I feel that in some way, it promotes anarchy, or just that the "now" is more important than the "then" because "then" will never be, just another "now" . am i right on this?
I would say, in your context, that while society is important at the macro level, we cannot let it affect us on our personal micro level. I'm not a big fan of living for the now, because the then, now and future are all equally important. living is not time relevant. it's about not being stagnant.

Actually, that would depend, since the US doesn't really defend itself, it has a tendancy to attack other countries, and say it's "defending freedom". If the US just stopped attacking other countries, then, maybe there would be other dominions that would try to then invade the US, but only then world there be a decent reason for "defending freedom" since that's what you really would be doing.

First forgive yourself, everyone around the world does whats best for their survival, then once you are free of the burden of guilt, its easier to make changes in your own life for the better.

Agree. Humanity needs to slow the rate of reproduction but not increase the rate murder! It should be a concious decision... we are all concious beings and we are all capable of making decisions... but, i too fear that the level of cociousness needed will not be reached. Value of life is factored by duration of time and the conditions in which life exists. War directly threatens both duration and condition with death and suffering, hence decreasing value of life. Originally i thought the speech was pro war, but now i realize the speech is about embracing war, not nessesarily supporting the war, even though it can come accross that way. This is a great concept---except for people who are mentally ill. You see, their brain---the very thing they use to figure out ways to make life their "horse"---IS the problem. Not their situations, but the very brain that is supposed to help them navigate life. So they are sort of screwed.

Well---I am bi-polar and I have pushed myself to have some victories in life. But they don't outweigh the misery of everyday life---not even remotely. You are saying that a person can reframe the way they approach life, and therefore have more control---and you're right. But when the way you feel is determined by distorted brain chemcials instead of "real" emotions---you are at a serious disadvantage.

Actually, that would depend, since the US doesn't really defend itself, it has a tendancy to attack other countries, and say it's "defending freedom". If the US just stopped attacking other countries, then, maybe there would be other dominions that would try to then invade the US, but only then world there be a decent reason for "defending freedom" since that's what you really would be doing.

The spread of communism was attacking the U.S. and other free nations.You can not sit by until you are surrounded by it, then try to defend yourself, it would then be a loosing battle. I suppose we attacked Germany twice and Japan..in Vietnam we supported the south Vietnamese to fight off communist dictators in Korea we supported the South Koreans for the same reason.

True, but I'm not saying that you should just sit and do nothing, but I am saying that you shouldn't just jump into a situation saying it's to defend freedom, or other types of "quests". I'm just saying that you should really say why you're in that country. If you look in the Middle East, you'll see that US occupation is there mostly to get some oil, that's pretty much it. (I'm NOT saying it's only for that, but it is a big reason why.)

Ok, What I just meant to say was that Pretty much everytime the US goes into the country to "defend freedom", they don't really do so, they tend to try to simply put up a form of government that suits them, throw out weapons to anyone that seems on their side, and take whatever ressources they deem is theirs for the trouble. That's pretty much what happened in Iraq. That also why Osama Bin Laden was able to attack the Twin Towers, with the equipment and money given to him by the US.

One of the things I think thats preventing people in North america from making progressive changes is consumer guilt. People keep telling us whats wrong with the things we do, yet most people don't make enough money to buy more efficent cars or not shop at walmart. First forgive yourself, everyone around the world does whats best for their survival, then once you are free of the burden of guilt, its easier to make changes in your own life for the better.
