  • Well said. Well done. Life life while you have life to live!

  • Thank you for what you said "...you figure out a way to turn [whatever plagues you] into your horse..."

SO true. I think it's so far the greatest lesson I learnt this year

  • You're obviously very important. Make sure you get famous.

  • Very good video. Lewis is my favorite author. Understanding and wisdom are rare commodities even in this age of information.

Thanks for the encouragement. Cheers mate.

p.s.I think this quote from Lewis suits you well:

"Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it."

  • Thank you for the words and the great quote, I will remember it!

  • So many intellects in this world who spout useless pharses. This is true widom. Great video!

  • haha, I was in suspense as I was reading your reply, wondering if you were gonna come to the conclusion that I was spouting a useless phrase!! Glad you enjoyed it.

  • This is a Pro work! So great! Wonderful video! Keep up!

  • I wish that those people who have nothing intelligent to say would type those unintelligent things appropriately under an unintelligent video.. like the one where the girl gets crushed by the tanning bed... go forth, cretins..

Anyways.. kudos for you for trying to do something good for people. There are so many selfish, ridiculous humans out there, and you are refreshing. If they have nothing else to complain about than your messy desk, well.. they have certainly missed the point.

  • woohoooo!! thanks for making my day!

  • i must watch this video about 3 or 4 times a week. really inspires me. thankyou.

  • if that's what you can do when you're bored things coud get pretty entertaining when you're not. great stuff, thanks j.

  • Good stuff, positive people make positive changes.

  • What is your favorite C.S. Lewis book?

  • I don't think I can answer that, but probably the problem with pain.

  • The Problem OF Pain... OF

  • new nice!!!

  • Of course, Jesus didn't allow himself to be a victiim?

  • don't you know the story? He rose from the grave, and therefore was not a victim.

  • very well done young man

    keep up the great work!

  • very wise words my friend. In the words of Daniel Gildenlow, "just BE!"

  • This is actually great information and exactly what I needed to hear today after

a particularly tough week at work.

    Thank you.

  • Nice message... very uplifting... good on ya, mate. =]

  • Okay, so don't be a victim, but try drinking less and clean up your room. Alcoholism can really mess up your life and keep you from living. go to AA dot com and get some help. Then maybe you won't ramble on youtube

  • what a douche.

  • Human beings are to depended on their surroundings, governments, and just the world to be human anymore. Now it takes 10 years or more of school education for you to be fit for society. Is that a better world? but back to your speech. I feel that in some way, it promotes anarchy, or just that the "now" is more important than the "then" because "then" will never be, just another "now" . am i right on this?

  • I would say, in your context, that while society is important at the macro level, we cannot let it affect us on our personal micro level. I'm not a big fan of living for the now, because the then, now and future are all equally important. living is not time relevant. it's about not being stagnant.

  • I c coffee,water,Arizona Ice Tea! mmm

  • Great words, love C.S. Lewis.

  • Did you drink all tose coffees and canned iced tea?

  • I live off of bottled drinks and takeout... I turned my kitchen into a greenhouse.

  • TRUTH!

  • I like your philosophy...

  • salam...

  • well done!!!

  • Love the Blues Brothers poster.

  • dude clean your room when you talk something so smart next time

  • i think lewis meant for humans should be ready to move onto the next stage of life, but life is always in motion, so how can humankind be truly ready for the next step, as far as what you said, I wait no one or nothing, if i feel it's time to move, i move, if i feel time to rest, i rest, i act on my feelings, my own feelings drive me through life, I expect nothing to be given to me, i want to earn it, i heard it said in a movie and book, that 'something given has no value' i feel that way too

  • does it get lonely up there on your pedestal?

  • yes very lonly, but mostly cold and windy. I'm hoping the water is deep enough though, cause I love cliff diving.

  • i wasn't preaching, or anything like that, i was just saying what i see in lewis' statement, and how i see things... sorry if it sounds like i am preaching or something...

  • ha, I just realized that last comment wasn't for me =P that being said, I don't find your statement preachy Jshaw. That quote sounds like something from Atlas Shrugged or Starship Troopers - read both if you haven't, starship is an easy read.

  • the quote was from starship troopers, saw the movie, but never read the book, i was replaying to hotagelife99 i think he said something to me about a pedestal, he replied to my comment, i was replying to him, but anyways thanks for the reply, have a good one, thanks for the video

  • read the book!!! It is an amazing book, the movie is almost the antithesis of the book. It's an easy 200 page read. One of the best books on leadership, value and sacrifice I have ever read... Actually no, it is the best,

  • i just may do that, thanks for the advice, you have a good one man, peace

  • Well said.

  • righteous dude

  • inspirational bro, keep reading.

"an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind"

  • I only clicked this beacuse in the thumbnail you looked like Tyrone Biggums and I thought this would be funny. Guess I was wrong on both accounts.

  • I think it's funny that you thought I looked like Tyrone Biggums.

  • HAHA well when you shrink the thumbnail down to 50x50 pixels, the bright red hat and dark coat kinda make it a tough call.

  • it's okay, I grew up in the suburbs on NWA and always wished I were black. Now my life is complete.

  • Your hot! Like a beef steak.

  • is this waht people do now? film themselves talking garbage just so they think they are cool. get a life. fucking geek.

  • I am a proud geek. But it is better than randomly watching garbage and commenting upon it.

  • I wonder what you were thinking when you posted the video, I know i"am going to sound like a wack, but i really belive it was for me. It"s strange how i just came across your video, maybe that"s the thing, maybe you were surpose to get that message out to people who needed to hear it, anyway thanks for posting it, i saved it so i can check it out every once in a while, kind of like having my own privet guru, lol. take care Tom

  • Who knows... Glad I made an impression.

  • i agree with gabe, but obama will not save us from what is happening now. if a man cannot say the pledge of allegiance he does not serve his country nor does he care about it. he beat around the bush everytime he had to answer a question in the democratic debate.

  • emotion moves us to act

wisdom tell us how to do it.

    now stop arguing.

  • BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!~

    A battlecry for the damned.

  • I didnt mean to offend anyone

I will maxe my statements more concise

    but fools rush in, buddy

use wisdom, not let your emotions run you entirely

but there does have to be a time when caution is thrown to the wind

Rest in Peace Mr Tillman and Navy Seal Murphy, no disrespect thanx for your bravery and sorry I never had the courage you did

    Gabriel Collett

  • read more jm coetzee

    i agree with the sentiment

    but not the conclusion

i made some bad mistaxes because of insecurities

but being insecure is better than being too arrogant

never allowing yourself to be a victim never lets you appreciate that everything changes and deprives you of the range of human emotions

I am not afraid of emotions or what others thinx

George Bush is a Douchebag and so is Chaney

  • brilliant observation... like how you tie it to our conscious everyday thoughts, What is the quote from? (sounds like great reading, and sorry, I didnt want to search through 38 pages of comments to find it, if its even mentioned.) Also, I'm only familiar with C.S.'s "The Screwtape Letters" which presents a peculiar yet all-knowing and inspiring view on the struggle between good and evil within our souls. Again, thanks for the great post was invigorating to me!

  • Voice audio is a bit low compared to the music audio. If you record more, or go back to edit this one, might want to up your vocal volume a bit.

    Other than that, great video.

  • to the guy who criticized his desk. just because he's messy does not infer that he has been cooped up for awhile, or does not make his message loose credibility, maybe you're not an optimist and you have to find something negative about everything, maybe you're an emo and you cut your writs just for attention.. that criticism tells alot about you as well

  • ummm dont u mean pessimist instead of non optimist

  • if humanity has the power to create life they damn well have the power to take life

  • Ability yes, but definantly not the right. I dont think i need to explain why.

  • yes but we are reaching a point in the history of are species that population will be at rates which limits resources, soon giving life will be regarded as bad as taking one... in the words of Bob Dylan, Times are Changing

  • Agree. Humanity needs to slow the rate of reproduction but not increase the rate murder! It should be a concious decision... we are all concious beings and we are all capable of making decisions... but, i too fear that the level of cociousness needed will not be reached. I have made the concious decision to not have children, i made this decision when i was 11 years old, and im sticking to it.

  • resources will never become limited, that is the magic of economics... Read Jullian Simon for a full explination. The more people on this planet, thie higher the standard of living will be. Look at the historical trends.

  • if you think about it we create life doesnt matter about god and what not im not saying religons are stupid i just think its false hope and if we die we die you know?

  • i think they have already proven they can take life.. look at american government.

  • The united states is run by international bankers, not congress. Your nation goes to war simply because your dollar is lent to your country at interest. Thus making war the most profitable circumstance for the international bankers. They got bs to sell, as long as half of the u.s is dumb enough to buy it, get used to war.

  • Sooo True!!! That's why during war time American Dollars valuations go down in value and thus give international bankers less money in interest... Oh wait, and Logic takes another hit!! Monetary Policy is incredibly dynamic and complex, go study it.

  • Life is not normal, neither is war, therefor war is as acceptable as everyday life. How moronic, war = death. Here's a thought of mine...

ANGER, in all its forms and espressions is derived from one human flaw, a simple INABILITY to understand. Think of everytime you were angry, realise this when you become angry, and you will subconciously force yourself to learn. Adopt onther perspective and the answers may present themselves in true light. Peace.

  • Wait, i watched you video again and i just got what what you were trying to say. War and life are not black and white, but both scales of grey, and we condition ourselves to believe that oportunity can only present itself in the light of perfection, but perfection is not achievable.

Our shortcomings in life are only based on our state of canciousness, environmental factors are not to blame.

We ensalve and opress our selves through a bad way of thinking.

  • haha, then forget my reply, however, I still appriciate your thoughts on Anger!!

  • Living = Death. So tell me, what is the counter? How shall one act during times of struggle? Though I agree and like your thought on Anger... Not quite that straiught forward though, there are legitimate reasons to get Anrgy.

  • Value of life is factored by duration of time and the conditions in which life exists. War directly threatens both duration and condition with death and suffering, hence decreasing value of life. Originally i thought the speech was pro war, but now i realize the speech is about embracing war, not nessesarily supporting the war, even though it can come accross that way. Jmtasu, can you provide me with a scenario for legitimate anger that does not evolve an inability to understand? And thank you.

  • uhm, and stop me if I misunderstood the point in whole... A 40 year old man raping a 5 month old baby. I would say anger to that situation is absolutly legitimate. A classic example used, was Jesus becoming Angry when the temple mount was turned into a place to rip off people.

  • Thankyou very much brother,

'course, I think war can be only internal nowadays...

  • Jmtasu, you question what he is doing based on his desk? Okay. Have you supposed that he might have gone out and bought all of those drinks? I guess we can conclude that he must have a gorgeous wife that comes and serves him his drink of choice on a little tray, and I suppose that we can jump to conclusions that anyone with a clean office must be OCD?

Be careful in airing your fancies, especially when you are trying to have a critical eye for media.

  • I am actually crazy OCD =P just not anal.

  • jmtasu, well if it's not one thing, it's another. You shoud see how my desk looks, Total poster child for ADD here!!! =)

  • no. normalizing war is genius. peace is war, war is peace. read Orwell and think about what can happen when cunning people who thirst for power manipulate minds. First people believe, then they stop thinking. There comes a point when and not thinking becomes normal. Then it will be too late to ever think again. Never stop loving and never stop thinking, or we will see that people can make sad truths out of what should be nonsense.

  • Ever read Orwells essay, Pacifism and the war? do if you haven't, it's great.

  • normalising war is MADNESS!!! BLASPHEMY!!!

  • Capitalism = the problem of it all.

  • bit simplistic isn't it? the conditions of capitalism got you that computer you post from, and forgive my stereotyping, but you probably live a comfortable life within the capitalist society. have you lived in other forms of society? communist, military run, dictatorship, a marxist utopia i don't know about? if not, i don't see how you can say that capitalism is the problem and be as black and white as that.

  • Ok. (short) U got institutions that r anti diversity, anti solidarity, anti self-governance,etc, u got a society that ignores injustices against others,n accepts injustices against themselves,u got no say in anything that effects your life except a few times a decade u get to choose 1 or the other ruler, ecological collapse,n disbelief that anything can change, crime, mental disorders, mass suffering, supporters of capitalism that r not aware of other models of social governance coz its not on TV.

  • In amongst this we have also have to life our life's as much as we can. Theres a power in spontaneity and in waiting for the right moment- its called timing. So having the ability to do both is what i would argue.

  • Can you even define capitalism?? It's a system of social beliefs where a society accepts Shared Liability, Modern Banking and Property rights. You honestly believe those are bad things??? Scary.

  • A very passionate good commentary.

  • This is a great concept---except for people who are mentally ill. You see, their brain---the very thing they use to figure out ways to make life their "horse"---IS the problem. Not their situations, but the very brain that is supposed to help them navigate life. So they are sort of screwed.

  • How would being mentally ill affect this concept at all? By that logic only so called "supermen" can turn the world into their horse... A menatlly ill person might push himself to expirience something that is very trivial to you and I, but could be a whole new world too himself.

  • ... the only persons that wiches to go to war are the ones that never went to..

war shouldn't exist. MEDIAS ARE SHIT DONT LISTEN TO THEM. LIVE YOUR LIFE.

  • Well---I am bi-polar and I have pushed myself to have some victories in life. But they don't outweigh the misery of everyday life---not even remotely. You are saying that a person can reframe the way they approach life, and therefore have more control---and you're right. But when the way you feel is determined by distorted brain chemcials instead of "real" emotions---you are at a serious disadvantage.

  • Did you jsut try to inspire me without my parents consent!?

  • Well said I just wish I had the hope and courage to carry it out.

  • Check my videos, melancholy VS crack!

  • I noticed that you have a nice cup and bottle collection on ur desk. I have one too. I also display it on my bed and floor tho. how about you?

  • I enjoyed your comment, but must admit, not a big ghost in the shell fan, sorry =( Nothing against it's philosophy, just wasn't into the movie... But glad you liked it and got something out of it!

  • I can't buy gas unless I sell myself, lol

  • These days it's called a dual citizenship and suing the government. Don't we all love to be apart of the continuing struggle. No, I don't view it all as a struggle, but it's the best word to use in response to this video.

  • you are a douche

  • I thing you are using a false analogy. War and everyday life are very dissimilar. We have to fight wars from time to time! If we took your advice and ignored military threats in order to pursue civil matters, all we would be doing is making our enemies conquest all the more lucrative when they take over the U.S. Don't get wrong; I admire your idealism. I wish everyone thought like you, but unfortently, a few tyrants don't.

  • I don't think you should ignore military threats, and C.S. Lewis was no pacifist... I did not mean to imply such. Instead of saying war, one might say havoc is the norm, and if we waited for life to be serene, nothing would ever happen. I live my life like an idealist, but I do except that you have to also be a realist.

  • Otto von Bismarck was a realist. =P

  • Actually, that would depend, since the US doesn't really defend itself, it has a tendancy to attack other countries, and say it's "defending freedom". If the US just stopped attacking other countries, then, maybe there would be other dominions that would try to then invade the US, but only then world there be a decent reason for "defending freedom" since that's what you really would be doing.

  • The spread of communism was attacking the U.S. and other free nations. You can not sit by until you are surrounded by it, then try to defend yourself, it would then be a loosing battle. I suppose we attacked Germany twice and Japan..in Vietnam we supported the south Vietnamese to fight off communist dictators in Korea we supported the South Koreans for the same reason.

  • True, but I'm not saying that you should just sit and do nothing, but I am saying that you shouldn't just jump into a situation saying it's to defend freedom, or other types of "quests". I'm just saying that you should really say why you're in that country. If you look in the Middle East, you'll see that US occupation is there mostly to get some oil, that's pretty much it. (I'm NOT saying it's only for that, but it is a big reason why.)

  • Also, communism isn't a bad thing, it's only a different political view for something people would see in an ideal world, but that idea is only exploited and corrupted so that people with a higher social status can exploit lower class citizens.

  • Tell that to the multitudes of millions who have died at the hands of communist dictators.Tell that to the people of North Korea who have died from starvation and were told by their government to make soup out of grass when they had food shortages.I dont see people fleeing on rafts to get to Cuba.I have never heard of people Climbing the Berlin wall to enter East Berlin when it existed. Why are so many fleeing Communist nations if communism is not that bad?

  • You didn't understand what I bloody said, did you? I SAID COMMUNISM IS A GREAT IDEA, BUT IN REAL LIFE, IT CAN'T WORK, GODDAMNIT, READ WHAT OTHERS WRITE, NOT WHAT YOU WANT THEM TO WRITE.

  • Maybe I did not understand what you meant in your comment.. after you saying what you just said and me rereading your comment I see where you were going. In a democracy there is opportunity for the vast majority of people to work their way to a higher social status. You dont need to get upset because someone did not get the viewpoint you were trying to get across.

  • I was getting upset because you seemed to understand I was FOR a communist dictatorship, which I am compeltely against. You can't see the world as being all black or all white, so you need to see the gray zones too.

  • No offence but it doesn't matter if he misread you, communism has always turned into despotism and oppression... So doesn't that in itself make communism a bad thing? Good things work, bad things don't. In communism, people cannot reap what they sow, and that in itself is a bad thing. It would be like saying facism and national socialism aren't bad things.

  • i have a joke that is not really a joke but a fact. lol

what does a nuklear warhead and communism have in common.

they both start of almost nothing and they both destroy almost everything on their path at the end.

  • I am in agreement.

  • a wise man said : "every one must seek happiness for it self, regardless of the sorry state of the world", close quoted.

  • you cocky americans

  • fight fight fight mmmmm thats what I hear you all could do with some orgonite...peace

  • Completely true.

  • ha, the background music is called simple gifts...

  • i was wondering, i was singing a hymn along to it, dance city? or something.

  • no shit war dosn't solve anything, a monkey could tell u that in his sleep. Humans are down right fuking up.

  • (Monkeys can't talk, neither in their sleep or their wake.) :P (It's meant as a joke)

  • Whatever! Relax and let the shavings fall where they may. Life needs to be kinda normal most of the time, or we'd all be too goofy to have civilization. More reflection and forethought prevents war..

  • I thought to myself who's sadder , me for watching this video, or you for making it. Its definitely you for making it!

  • wow u r depe

  • i'm coming to ur place to clean up all ur crap all over your desk and what not <3

  • Wow - it suddenly all makes perfect sense - I knew there was a reason I hated C.S. Lewis . . .brave words, though . . .

  • intresting, im kinda at that stange in my life. im at a shitty ass junior college cooped up at home, but i feel its my only option to get the hell out of here ehhh. maybe i should try a differnt approach?

  • depends on what you want, and why you want it. I would just say don't be afraid if there is something you want to try.

  • that was said in dazed and confused by the chick with the red fro

  • I totally stole it from her, that movie is way greater than I will ever be.

  • clean your room!

  • putting off moving out of my mom's attic...

  • Thanks.

  • *lalalalalalala*

    Puseudo inteletual crap.

Why does this have to do with chocobos?

  • isn't all intelectualism psuedo?? Action is the only true knowledge.

  • Seriously, at the end of the chocobo tribute I was watching, this shit popped up.

So, what does shit that some drunkard pusuedo intelectual have to say do with the glory that is the Chocobo?

  • Not all the videos that are shown at the end of, for example, the Chocobo tribute, are related to it. They might just be a random video on it.

  • fuckin retard.... clear you desk you dirty slob

  • bravo e bello john-michael, ciao.

  • yeah exactly. have kids without having a stable job. oh wait, thats stupid. fuck cs lewis in his stupid christian ass

  • Your vituperative way of responding to people does not seem like a manner of speech becoming either a Christian or a Cambridge don, of which Lewis was both. Which of course, you, being the expert, must know.

  • You've just inspired me to take a chance. That alone makes watching this worth while. Thanks.

  • hey buddy, you want to join the US Army

If you email me, I will join with you tomorrow

    Give it up,bro

You are good at youtube videos, but actions speac louder than words

  • part of me wishes I had joined the military. Don't let me hold you up. I have a ton of friends who have joined and it changed them all for the better.

  • allright homeboy, I live in SF Bay Area

we can go down to the recruiters office

and sign up, if Obama wins, I will worx for that Man

OBAMA 08, HES GOING TO WIN USA 08 I WILL LIVE AND DIE FOR THAT MAN but not this man--Bushjr

    Sincerely,

Gabriel Collett BA History University of California, 2000

  • uhm, to each their own, but if you join the military I hope your are not fighting for a man but a cause and/or ideal.

  • Good answer. I spent six years in the Army. I didn't join because I loved Ronald Reagan. I joined because I believed the Freedom and Democracy the United States stands for is worth defending. Living and dieing for a person sounds pretty obtuse to me.

  • thank you for your service.

  • Buddy, I repeat the challenge

I will serve in the Navy tomorrow if you join with me

I was going to join the Coast Guard until the oil spill in my bacyard, that is just too unforgivable

I didnt join because Homeland Security has screwed it all up

and I am waiting for Obama

I agree that an individual doesnt matter than much, but since the chain of command has to stop with one person

    that person is the President

  • You do know that most of the time, people are fighting for false causes, including people not in any sort of terrorist group ;)

  • even if I agreed with your statement, it doesn't mean you can't fight for a nobel cause... If you believe others are fighting for false causes, more the reason to fight for what is right.

  • Ok, What I just meant to say was that Pretty much everytime the US goes into the country to "defend freedom", they don't really do so, they tend to try to simply put up a form of government that suits them, throw out weapons to anyone that seems on their side, and take whatever ressources they deem is theirs for the trouble. That's pretty much what happened in Iraq. That also why Osama Bin Laden was able to attack the Twin Towers, with the equipment and money given to him by the US.

  • so you don't believe America should have supported the Mujahideen?? And doesn't that pretty much go against every other statement you had? And also, Bi Laden was rich before the the Soviet invasion of Afghan.

  • True, but he hadn't received Millitairy CIA training from the US before that. Also, no, I don't think the US should have supported Mujahideen. Just no. It may go against a few things I said, but I simply say that I have a strong impression the US is simply trying to govern the world, in an indirect manner.

  • what about Pat Tillman or the Navy Seal who recently died

do you thinx they fought for what is right

You are only as strong as your weaxest linx

and Bush is our weaxest linx

compare to FDR, a man paralyzed by Polio, and he still could face the threats head on

Bush is so weax and hes got the best technology in the history of the world

When the head is rotten the body is too

    OBAMA 08

  • All wars are fought and based on money, starting with the French Revolution, every war begining with it has been planned, so some reseach on Mayer Amschel Rothschild, Adam Weishaupt, Xavier Zwack, Albert Pike, you'll find quite some mind blowing stuff. And if you don't want to do some research yourself, and your interested, message me and I'll tell you the whole story. =P

  • lol, kinda absolutist here, all wars are not fought for money, and anyone who says they are, doesn't even know what the definition of money is. A war is just a social conflict at a large level. To believe that all wars are fought for money, would be the same as saying all argument are over money... Don't simplify the world, by doing so, you only assure more war will happen.

  • too many people...too many opinions...yeah, the world's a messed up place but let's give it a rest and do what we can do...ok?

  • Life is too short, and people are not guaranteed a certain number of years, anything can happen at any moment, so why do we wait 18 years for our lives to begin?I have trouble comprehending why human beings are so civilized. Why do we follow what ever our government states? We haven't a clue as to when our time is up,shouldn't we live by our own regulations?I just don't find our government to be plausible.I know for a fact,I would be able to be successful in living life if life should start.

  • ha, its all the good speeches that u cant understand... i guess im just too darn uneducated =( o well good video!

  • absolutely right. loved it. live the moment.get off the branch and keep flying.

  • Look how many drinks are in the background

Yes, that was completely irrelavent. But yes, he does make a point.

  • One of the things I think thats preventing people in North america from making progressive changes is consumer guilt. People keep telling us whats wrong with the things we do, yet most people don't make enough money to buy more efficent cars or not shop at walmart. First forgive yourself, everyone around the world does whats best for their survival, then once you are free of the burden of guilt, its easier to make changes in your own life for the better.
