  • Whoah she's British

  • Hello, i am getting a puppy dane at the beginning of April, and i am really excited. I am planning to visit my parents in September ( the pup would be 5 months old) but they just had a baby! Would you have any advice to make sure everything goes well with baby, or would advise me not to take her at all? Also, i will have the pup from birth as the mother is my boyfriend's dog. What would you say is the best age to start training, and would you have any additional advice in puppy training?

  • Good Clear Instructions.I liked your video

  • I'm so very much impressed as I've viewed several of your videos. Do you have one for stay via clicker training? I am new to Clicker training and I just got a new Labrador that is almost 9 weeks old. Right now I am working on leash training and housebreaking. However, he doesn't get it that I want to walk through the door first. So I thought teaching Romeo to stay while I walk up the back steps first would help that.

    Big thanks!!

  • @dodgerbuddy7 - I did run through teaching Stay in my "Intro to Clicker Training Part 3", I think. You can also find it on Honey's blog - look under "Videos" page - all the clicker training videos are listed there. For walking through the door first, though, I would actually teach WAIT rather than STAY. There is an imp difference between them: you never call a dog out of STAY, it must always remain there until YOU go back to release it but WAIT just means "pause until the next command"

  • Thanks so much for your videos! I'm looking into getting a rescue dog, heard about clicker training, and stumbled across your videos. They're incredibly clear and broken down well. Gotta train the owner to train the dog! Thankies thankies ~~ d(^_^)b

  • Your videos are so helpful! I have just got a rescue dog and she needs full training and so far with the help of your videos she's doing great. Thank you for explaining it so well and going through each step even with different possibilities of what the dog will do, your work is much appreciated as i'm sure many other people think so too. Well done =]

  • its great that in all these videos you show the WHOLE process. the beginning stages and the boring waiting time while she's figuring it out - because that's what we will be experiencing with our own dog. very helpful! in a lot of videos it sort of skims over the beginning and middle stages and then jumps to the end where the dog does the trick completely, but its hard to fill in all the possible outcomes in the middle without seeing it in the video. so well done! :)

  • WOW... thankyou for these videos, i am getting my boxer puppy in a weeks time and after watching this i feel confident in my abilitys to train him, thanks again

  • Honey is a very smart dog. Great Dane's are my favorite. I most def. will be coming back to watch your training vidoes when I decide to get a Great Dane. They seem to help a lot. :)

  • I was wondering if you could perhaps do a video of you training how to stay, wait and recall using clicker training because this is something that I want to do with my dogs but I'm not quite sure how to go about it - I'm not really sure when and what I should click and treat for.

    Thank you for your time

    x

  • Your videos are amazing! I've learnt so much from you and I like the way you explain things and go through each step and why. You are brilliant - and honey too!

  • Oh, I just love your channel. I hope to have my own dog by the end of the year, so I'm brushing up on material. Thanks!

  • hello, we just adopted a 2 month-old golden retriever. just want to ask, how long should the training last every session?

  • caralho!!

  • Do you ever let Honey onto your couch or bed? I would love to let my dog come up, but i heard its bad?? Can you help?

  • where do you get the clicker?

  • @brocolims - If you visit Honey's website (URL is in the video or in the info section) and click on the "Clicker Training & Tricks" page, you will find info on clickers and where to get them, etc.

  • Beautiful dog, I wish I could have a Great Dane

  • awww......:) 6:34

  • what type of dog treats do you use?

  • That was a great video.

  • beautiful Dane! I have had my harlequin pup for 4 days now, 2 months old, and after watching your videos will start with clicker training!

  • I love Honey!! I'm gonna use this with my puppy. Thanks!

  • I did this in 3 mins with my Belgian Shepherd, I said 'good boy' and a treat instead of clicker. It works great and now he does it without any treat, I just say 'lie down bed' - thanks so much AAAAA+++++

  • can the dog still be trained to do this without a clicker and just treats?

    Thanks for a great video!!

    =)

  • Yes, you can do it with a consistent verbal marker signal (eg. "Yes!") - ALWAYS said in the same tone, at the same time as the CLICK in the video - followed by treat. You will need to "switch on" your chosen word the same way as a clicker (see my Intro to Clicker Training - Part 1) first. Make sure you are consistent with the word you choose and always use that word to mark the correct behaviour - don't use "good dog" or something that you might use in other situations.

  • Thanks!! =D

  • You can still praise while you're teaching it but just use your verbal marker first (eg. "Yes! Good girl..."). You might be able to teach this just with random praise words and treats but it's much harder for the dog to figure out what he's being rewarded for (looking up at you? Sitting? Touching the bed? Is it the lying down or the lying down on the bed that counts? etc, etc) - so takes longer and may not be as reliable. This method communicates in a way dogs understand.

  • 5 stars! She is so obidient how much time did it take to learn that?

  • It really depends on the dog - different dogs learn different things at different paces. We actually taught Honey this command when she was a young pup so I can't remember now how long it took but not long - maybe a couple of weeks? The key is being consistent about enforcing it even after they have learnt the command - ie. test them with different distractions, distances, etc, and if they get off, gently but firmly send them back to the bed - so that they understand they HAVE to obey.

  • Most people fail not because of the training method but because of lack of consistency - ie. they "give up" and let the dog get away with it sometimes, because they get fed up with enforcing it...if you let the dog get away with it once, he'll try even harder next time! You don't have to be nasty about it but you do have to be firm, consistent and patient about repeating things lots of times in the beginning, until it becomes habit and the dog doesn't think of challenging it anymore.

  • very good video and well explained: 5* !

  • I love how honey always offers that head shake behavior when she's not sure what you want...very cute...

  • Yeah, that's her latest trick that she has learnt so she is very keen on offering it! She always does it with her new trick...before this, it was "Look up" which she was always offering, regardless of what I asked for! :-)

  • This was really helpful Hsinyi thanks so much! I've got to learn this so I can train my greyhound to go to his bed, I'm sure my mom won't want him racing about and being a nuisance when she has people over. Better to start training myself now (and my current dog, so she can show the new guy what to do!) so I can train him later on when I do get him.

  • Oh, I'm sure a gentle greyhound would never be a nuisance! :-) But yes, it is a very useful command to teach dogs and I think it's only fair to respect the feelings of those people who may not like dogs as much as us or who may be scared of them...but this way, the dog can still enjoy being in the room with you.
