  • How do they do that? Whenever I try for overtones, I'm lucky if I ger the note after the octave.

  • this is the first time i will ever say an instrument sounds ugly

  • I would love to play one of those with my Fat Neck that I use for my cannonball x]

  • Hollywoodwinds is the only company making keyless sax, Hollywoodwinds make keyless alto saxophone and keyless tenor saxophone, soprano and baritone are special order only.

  • I can't believe I never heard of a "keyless" saxophone before.

  • Worst idea ever...

  • Someone should make a saxophone with a slide.

  • @Patbad73 I believe they already have actually

  • @TheMrsaxman Where do I buy one?

  • @Patbad73 I'm sorry, i'm not actually sure, I saw one on a video demonstrating various saxophones, Im sure with some googling you may find it

  • So it sees like the first few lower notes were octaves (like a bugle) -- but the higher notes seemed closer together -- is my brain playing tricks on me?

  • @chaosaxis This plays the harmonic series based on an alto's Bb (concert Db), which is exactly how a bugle works. Octave P5 P4 M3 m3 m3 M2

  • Sounds like a fujara!

  • Dear Santa,........

  • haha! Cool!!

  • you should put a mute

  • This is amazing... Wow

  • where can i pick up one of these and for how much? i dug the funky stuff you did in the second part haha

  • @clix089 Thanks! See earlier comments for more info.

  • Nice. My pinkies kill me after a while of overtones. I have key clamps, that I got with a horn, but they don't quite do the trick. Nothing wrong with having another toy to play with! :)

  • Wow. Do they make one for tenor?

  • @dluo117 I believe so.

  • i could see this making a great prank or gag. Show up to a gig with it and say to the band.. Sorry guys, I packed the wrong horn, we're gonna have to play everything in Db today... :) Nice overtones by the way!

  • good job working with what you had, but what's the point... dumb instrument.

  • @thinkbigize This is an instrument for practice . . . mastery of overtones and low register, without having to worry about squeezing down all the keys. This demonstration simply shows what is possible. It is certainly not intended for performance!

  • @Popesax - Could this help go up to altissimo on the regular alto sax?

  • you can do the same with an ordinary alto sax useing lower Bb and B :) why to buy an instrument?

  • @yourockets3 The instrument is light, never leaks, and allows you to play low Bb perfectly without any strain on the fingers. I find it to be excellent for low register practice, as well as overtones.

  • @Popesax I was only jokeing :) I know it's use and know it's a study intrument - I wouldn't buy it but can easily imagine that it can be functional for practicing ( sorry for my english I wish I' clear all the same) - have a nice time.

  • can you play cherokee 4 me?

  • Well done!

  • Rascher would be happy to see/hear this! (Any reason why you didn't treat us to some bugle calls? Maybe in a follow-up video?)

  • gotta say some of this sounds like something you'd hear at a rave. lol wonderful show of overtones, i can only play the first 4 right now, but i'm working on it.

  • Dave, do you have any videos of the "Vacuum cleaner" you used to do with your tenor at U Mass?

  • That is amazing! How much did it cost?

  • @RandomAwe: I think I paid around $350 for mine, many years ago. I see hollywood winds has it for $495 on their website. It's an awesome teaching tool.

  • it's the tool of the devil!!

  • Awesome the way you found the music in that thing!

  • That's just about the wackiest thing I've ever seen! Sounds great, though.
