@jasonraceing its pronounces like "kay on" i know because i called up guitar center to get one and i slaughtered it and they were like what? you mean cajon? haha
haha like snare?? hahaha u dont need strings to the cajon sounds like that u just need know how to use the cajon, and a good fingers techiniques i'm peruvian , and u need to listen the cajon in criolla music u need learn more abt peruvian music
I play mine differently, tilted back and then with more of a rock style while I sit on a chair or stool behind the cajon rather than on top of it. Works better for my back.
I got a Kingdon Cajon which has a nice rock sound. I use the centre for bass drum type sounds and the top for snare sounds withe the top left and right set up for slap type sound ( a bit like rimshots really.)
Got a few vids on YouTube showing this technique - search for "Kingdon Cajon"
This is just a rectangle box with a hold in the back...tha is all...a simple box and u can play lotssssssssssss of music but in Peru it was invented (I think) for the black slaves long time ago (pls correct me if I'm mistaken).
Well like I said "IN MY COUNTRY PERU" the ones that played first were the black/slaves. I don't know about other countries. I think it all depends...but IS BEAUTIFUL AND I LOVE DANCING MUSICA NEGRA.
Yeah african slaves were experimenting on the cargo boxes and that is how "El cajon" was originated. For some reason, only in Peru and Cuba the idea continued and evolved in two kinds of cajon, they are pretty similar but the Peruvian cajon and afro-peruvian music have a unique and distinctive rithm and personality. Que viva el PERU carajo!
it seems like your box dont have a snare inside? you got the skills. Much better if you have a snare, or put some jingles for different sound. I prefer mine with snare.. anyway different drummers, percussionist different styles, and preference.
so basically.....is that just a wooden box? because im going to try and make one of these and i only found them with strings, which was the hardest part to fit...but if without strings it sounds this good i might leave them out!!
I also recommend them to see cajon peruano -juan carlos lecca. It is a video which shows the integration of the Peruvian cajon American jazz. I recommend it.

it also has snare wires or guitar strings in it to rattle, in order to imitate a snare drum, although this is not completely necesary
Metallicrazy 2 years ago
It wasn't invented for the black slaves, it was invented by them when druming on the cargo of the ships (wooden boxes)
