  • Anybody know about this: Sleeping in the cold with no blanket, so your body has to burn more calories to keep you warm, in turn burning fat?

  • mmmh What about testosterone levels?

  • i thought you were cool until you took away one of my excuses lol ok my question can supplements cause you to gain weight

  • @Godfavorabletome Over the counter supplements meaning pills, not usually. Fat gain (weight gain) comes either from eating extra calories or from not burning them.

  • i've heard sleeping can burn calories ; sleeping for 1 hour lose 80 calories is this possible? answer bak plz!

  • @MzGigglez910 The act of sleeping itself doesn't burn calories BUT while you are sleeping your body (meaning all your cells) are still using calories.

  • @MzGigglez910 if your sitting on your chair watching tv your burning calories at rest. now imagine when you go to sleep... your body is even more at rest than when you were sitting on that chair watching tv so your actually burning less calories sleeping than when you were awake resting.

  • Heres a fun fact, the former MR. Olympia Dexter jackson sais he only gets SIX, thats right 6 hours of sleep a night. He said he goes to bed around 2 am after watching nancy grace. And he built the best body in the world. So even with lack of sleep a.k.a like in the army you can still get in amazing shape. But sure more sleep would be beneficial maybe it depends on the person. Im sure a natural body builder would need more sleep because they cant rely on steroids for recovery.

  • @SpartanLife1821 It don't matter how many hours of sleep someone gets, if someone is on steroids they going to look good.

  • Rickalex21 i do agree that steroids do help alot, and even allow trainers to get away with questionable form with the weights. But i dont believe that simply taking steroids will make you look good on thier own, users still need to do the basic compound movements and have some knowledge of how to properly train thier body parts.

  • @SpartanLife1821 ya I agree with you, the effort lifting weights still has to be done. But they can slack off on other things like sleeping and get away with it. That was my point. Now im not saying 1-3 hours of sleep at night, im just saying that they dont require 8-9 hours.

  • Steve,

    become a beachbody coach!!

  • BUBBLE BATH

  • lol cant argue with Steve, he's way to knowledgeable, all common sense.

  • Actually sleep deprivation and other forms of stress including excess exercising leads to buildup of cortisol in your system and thats a nasty litle catabolic hormone that not only devour your muscles but also makes every litle kcal you eat turn into fat without ever reaching your muscles.

  • No. LACK of sleep will hurt recovery. But SOME anti-depressants MAY cause strength loss depending on the individual.

  • Steve..I take an anti-depressant. Either that, or my condition, or both inhibit my sleep. I either sleep sparatically, or not at all. As a result I will take ambien sleep aid a few times a week. Do sleep aids have any effect on the bodies workout recovery , or calorie expenditure during sleep, as far as you know?

  • damn...how about your 18yrs old and always go to sleep laate and wake up early but i never feel tired in the gym

  • Digesting food does take calories and eating often does prevent calories from being stored as fat in OUT OF SHAPE people but it's still creating a consistent calorie deficit which is most important.

  • Correct me if im wrong, but isnt always having food in your body a good think due to always keeping your metabolizm high. if you eat at 6 oclock at dinner then wake up at 6 the next morning, thats 12 hours you havnt aten which causes your metabolism to go very slow?

but like i said please correct me if im wrong, but i think always having food in your belly keeps your metabolism high, which leads to weightloss.

  • Sorry, big legs!

  • someone needs bigger pants!

  • good advice.

I believe in sleeping well and not too much.

  • ever*

  • Thats strange im not saying your wrong because you probably know much more than i even will but i always thought if you sleep more you burn more calories in your sleep.

  • i got a question , i heard that taking creatine , and then drinking alchohal is really bad ... something about alcohol dehydrates you and you need to drink alot of water (actually theres another , how much water should we drink on creatines) and is there are way to drink and take creatine without damaging your body (w/o counting the effect of alchohal alone.)

  • Yes, that's right. It HOW MUCH you eat NOT when you eat.

  • It's not true. You will not gain weight.

  • so that means i can eat rice, beans meat what i normaly eat be4 sleep and not get fat? interesting O_O i stoped eatin after 6 cause i though id get fat.

btw: thanks alot for your videos steve it really helps alot!

  • I have to say, when u eat just before you go to sleep your not giving your body any chance to burn off those calories before they become stored fat.

If you stop eating after 6 like you said, then from the time you eat to when you go to bed (say 11pm) then thats 5 hours that your body could be burning calories better.

In those 5 hours your undoubtedly going to walk around your house(to and from rooms), stand around somewhere which burns calories :P

  • Is It True That When You Eat Before Sleeping Your Body Doesnt Burn The Calories You Just Took In.

    So Results In Gaining ?

I Also Heard It Was A Myth...

  • this steve guy is great, all the advice he gives is spot on, way to go steve, thanks for all your tips and advice. cheers Rob from scotland.

  • good cuz im addicted to sleep i sleep all day on weekends

  • only i on weeknds lol i sleep all day on school days

  • i always do minor workouts befor ei go to bed. makes it alot easier to get to sleep. just a few crunchs to or arm curls. you know the very basic excersizes. tires thebody out slightly and is easier to sleep.

  • He left out a good piece of information on this one.

In the first few hours of sleep, your body enters into short-wave sleep. During this time, up to 60% of your hGH is released, making this an EXTREMELY important time for your training. hGH isn't just for recovery, its great for fat loss too.

  • You can optimize its release by avoiding high GI carbs before bed, and taking any hGH precursors you sleep (arginine + orthinine + tryptophan, for example).

  • GI carbs? please explain.. and does HGH always come out during sleep.. when does it come out the most from ages 18 to ? or yeah.. and does hgh hormones come forever?

  • GI carbs = glycemic index. Search it.

and does HGH always come out during sleep.. <--- during the first 4 hours, yes. Thats when you get 60% of your hGH.

when does it come out the most <--- it declines steadily with age.

and does hgh hormones come forever? <--- in smaller amounts, but yes.

  • thanks

  • If your sleeping, your not eating!!!!

  • Look Watson, a bird!

    NO HOCKEY SHERLOCKY!

  • Steve, you always give so much good advice. I just picked up on your self-defence vids. I'll be checking them out when I have more time. Again, thanks for your dedication.

  • Steve, do you have any tips on how to fall asleep when your body is not willing to cooperate, even after a hard day of working out?

  • Get rid of caffeine in your diet!

  • In the middle of the night if you do wake and find yourself not able to sleep then get up and do something until you feel sleepy, forcing yourself to try and sleep will just make you more alert and you'll feel very uncomfortable and unfreshed when you awake in the morning. Through the day a 15-20 minute nap will make you feel more active to tackle your daily activities, any longer and you'll just wake up groggy. I hope this information helps, if need anymore information don't hesitate to ask.

  • If it takes you more than 30 minutes to go to sleep and you wake up in the middle of the night for no reason at all feeling wide awake, if this has gone on for more than two weeks then I suggest you see a doctor because you may have undiagnosed insomnia.

  • my friend has that he says its total hell

i have probs getting to sleep and i stay away from caffine and do alot of exercise but nearly no cardio so im gona try that and see if it helps a bit

  • Don't do any vigorous exercise within 3 hours of your sleeptime. This makes the body more alert and you will find it difficult to sleep. This is the time you should let your body unwind and relax. Before sleeping I suggest having a hot milky drink as this will make you drowsy, also reading a book you enjoy will make you relaxed more. Stay away from watching t.v. in the bedroom before sleeping because the bright light will also make your brain more active and alert.

  • damn thanks!! :D

  • You're very welcome. ^.^

  • Thanks for posting this. A great reminder on how important sleep is to overall fitness. I never seem to get enough rest..

  • also your digestion isn't as efficient when you're not sleeping enough.

  • STEVE i've watched all your videos and i would like to ask you, what's your opinion about BILL PHILIPS. I've spotted some poits you disagree with him eg he says we should take food implements like vitamines, carbos etc. Can you plz tell me what you think of him cause i consider really seriously your opinions about those things. Keep up the good work :)

  • I'm asking you cause i've been following his advises (on his book) and don't know but u seem more persuasive as you don't promote anything and telling things with their names (this gismo, that gismo :)) Can i hear your opinion about him plz

  • Pisses me off. I am the worst insomniac in the world. I'm sure it hurts my lifting gains...

  • im kinda the same as well, ill just have shitty weights sessions sumtimes, cos i cudnt sleep well

  • k when you sleep hormones are regulated if hormones are not regulated you will NOT be able to take in the max amount of protein fats & carbs before they store end of story thats fact take what you want from it

  • One of the most important parts of a body building routine. Good video.
