Expenive, yes... but this is still in the "first adopters" territory. As with ANY technology prices will fall. As for the consumer applications... imagine a desktop monitor or home-theater projector that would "sense" when your laptop came into the room and automatically enabled itself as a second monitor. :)
No compression. Remember that this is a combination of two technologies: The DisplayLink chipset which allows up to 1600x1200, full-motion video through USB, and a USB over Ultra-Wide-Band adapter. The end result is performance as if you had the adapter plugged directly into the computer. (Up to 30 feet)
