A great artist could simply duplicate the master, but a real great artist makes the master's art her very heart. Sung with true emotion, absolutely stunning work.
This is probably my most favorite cover of a John Lennon song. He was simply an untouchable songwriter, but this girl is amazing. Her voice fits this song so perfectly. Love it so much.
At first, I didn't think I'd ever be able to give any artist a chance to cover this song... John Lennon's "Real Love" is my favorite song... However, Regina pulled this off with flying colors! Between her presentation, the key she adopted the song, and her beautiful piano work, she really managed to capture Lennon's intention behind the music - Bravo!
This is the song that made me "discover" Regina as I was searching and listening to various works by another one of my favorite artists, John Lennon. I vaguely had heard some of her songs before, but I never connected them with her personally. I instantly fell in love with her talent and personality. Man, I found a true treasure, and I had a lot of catching up to do. And so I did. I've already seen her in person a few times since then and hope there will be many, many other times to come.
My dentist told me today that I reminded her of Regina Spektor. Her hands were in my mouth and I tried to say "I LOVE HER!" It sounded more like "WAGUBSMER" but I think she understood.
Regina doesn't say much, but when she does you can't stop listening and she truly captivates you in every way. But she tends to say more when she sings then when she speaks.
doesn't matter how long i have waited, you're worth the waiting sweetheart. i love you and you helped me realize that in life...only love is real. **hugs!
@lyoozero lol, changed the world... for the better? He was a Goddamned pacifist in love with his own popularity ranting nonsense. Tell me how he changed the world, Goddamned britt. Nothing is new under the sun mac". Eire go brah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@solariis888 Yes, he did change the world for better. He and the Beatles revolutionized the world music and messages. Me a brit? Yeah, sure, a brazilian with pretty much only japanese blood is a brit now.
I don't care what John Lennon said or did outside his music. You just can't deny that he did change the world for the better with his talent.
@lyoozero Do you have any clue what the Viet Kong did to the south vietnamese. Do you have any clue at all, you stupid fuck, or do you just spout what other people tell you to say, puppet. Faggots like John Lennon, who where equally clueless should be put on the front lines and made to learn the hard way.

But Regina does this pretty straightforward - and finds every nook and cranny of nuance, hope and pain that Lennon intended.

I honestly love her version better than the original. I am a huge Beatles fan, but she did this song so much more passionately and her voice is amazing!
@harinezumi18 Well remember that john's version never came out to the market as his single, and he never bother on fix it... i think both versions have their good things, regina is more pasion it if you can say that, but john's it's more like well john, you know what i mean ? :P

maybe he wouldnt be? how do you know? i mean...i didnt like it. this is not a cover of john, this is adding her style in this song...and making somebodys song her own..
@ajdicu umm isn't that what a cover is supposed to be??? And if you listen to some other covers Regina did not change that much she did basically make her own piano part which I think is amazing and this cover does great justice to the beautiful song lennon created
I just looked up M. Jethmalani. Beautiful woman, respectable job. But 'way better'? 'blows her completely out of the water'? WOW! I can't even comment on that. Maybe I looked up the wrong video. That has to be it. That's the only thing that makes sense.

one of the most stupid annoyin things in westerns is that they keeps putting " ummm & u know..." in every fuckin sentence, its really stupid and again annoying, particularly ummm, what does that fuckin mean, ur waiting for the signal to be sent so thats like a small rubbish till u speak normally......
I did not know it was peculiar of the 'westerns', I thought it was universal :')
It's not something intentional, however, it does not mean anything, it's just a form of hesitation, I guess. Shy people 'umms' a lot, while looking for the right words.
I had never considered it as annoying 'cause I thought it was natural, but it's interesting to learn that it is not. Non westerns do not 'umm'?
( However, I believe you're overreacting... and it's pretty funny X'D )
other languages have different forms of this. Im studying japanese, and their form of umm is "etto..". and you probably use this more often if you are more introverted or just put careful thought into what you say. It is actually kind of necessary since most modern people have no patience for the art of conversation.
A very interesting observation, and I agree completely about the lack of patience for the art of conversation. Real conversation is becoming a lost art form....the usual jabber is nothing more than a contrived string of cliches.
in march this year i waited for my bride to come down and see me.............had fairytale of new york by the pouges as the bridal (without the lyrics)
I think you all are high... Her voice will never compare to Lennon..
One thing I can say from this performance.. Her emotion flows so much out of this song, and her piano arrangement is "spek-tacular". Overall though, I really liked it.
Interesting subject. To me good singing isn't just about smooth, & vibrato, & Pavarotti type quality. It's about being on key (unless you meant not to be), individual style, attitude & passion. You can pick on all the Beatles if you go textbook. Regina too. But they all have that thing that makes them great anyway. Just like Neil Young & Dylan. But holy cow! How can any Lennon lover deny this version. It's beautiful. I'd never say it's better. But Lennon probably would :) (sounds like him)
You know interestingly enough I heard this song for the first time in Regina’s interpretation. It touched me deeply. Then I thought,- well now let's hear the Lennon original and I felt... almost nothing. There is no sense of urgency and desperation in Lennon’s version. In other words it doesn't sound like a revelation. Regina's version is more credible in my opinion
....Just listen, - even if you feel dead inside it’s still there, it’s still real, ….Love
this is sublimely beautiful, but i think the live lollapalooza version (also 2007) is better -- it's more raw and immediate, less polished, and all the better for it.
i love this song, especially by her. you all are missing the point. and she is helping to raise money for darfur. soo, stop hating on eachother and talking about other people and concentrate on the beauty of her voice, the piano, and the lyrics.
Because they are legends they remind us that enforced little change in this modern world, John Lennon definitely deserves credit and respect for what he gave back to people who were unfortunate... and only hope he is at God's side.
Well, the four guys themselves believe that it was their last hurrah before separating, so Paul and Ringo would probably agree that it is the best, but I think that the white album was the best, because there is so much great songs to choose from, then magical mystery tour is full of my faveys :D
i hate this woman. she has good tone....that's it... who the hell cares. There are plenty of no talent hacks with great voices. why does this one with her incoherent misinformed political babble and hackneyed harmonies get ANY credit?
well regina - i LOVE u but Amnesty Innt. just had a HUGE report how isreal used arabs as human shields and kills women and babies....i luv u - but lets dump isreal....!
Interesting take. Kind of sounds like a more classical piece to me for some reason. I like her rendition. I prefer Lennon's acoustic version (from the Imagine soundtrack) but I really enjoy this too.
It's almost funny how most of these comments contradict the song being sung. I understand it's a cover, but does it really have to start a flaming war of the fanboys? Just appreciate the song.
I want to know how anyone can dislike Regina Spektor?? Who are those 44 dislikes from??! She's amazing. :)

i love this song, especially by her. you all are missing the point. and she is helping to raise money for darfur. soo, stop hating on eachother and talking about other people and concentrate on the beauty of her voice, the piano, and the lyrics.

beatles suck why does everyone like them
bipseh 2 years ago
Because they are legends they remind us that enforced little change in this modern world, John Lennon definitely deserves credit and respect for what he gave back to people who were unfortunate... and only hope he is at God's side.

maybe you should listen to abbey road, then everything else :D
EvanCo93 2 years ago
Abbey Road first? Really? I mean don't get me wrong, I love Abbey Road, but that wouldn't be my first choice.

Well, the four guys themselves believe that it was their last hurrah before separating, so Paul and Ringo would probably agree that it is the best, but I think that the white album was the best, because there is so much great songs to choose from, then magical mystery tour is full of my faveys :D
EvanCo93 2 years ago 2
Yeah true enough. And I would pick The White Album too, its my favorite album by them,.

i hate this woman. she has good tone....that's it... who the hell cares. There are plenty of no talent hacks with great voices. why does this one with her incoherent misinformed political babble and hackneyed harmonies get ANY credit?
CasoOSU 2 years ago
How can you have a great voice but have no talent? That's a stark oxymoron. Haha you foolish child.

Interesting take. Kind of sounds like a more classical piece to me for some reason. I like her rendition. I prefer Lennon's acoustic version (from the Imagine soundtrack) but I really enjoy this too.

I keep coming back for a hit of this song from time to time.

It's almost funny how most of these comments contradict the song being sung. I understand it's a cover, but does it really have to start a flaming war of the fanboys? Just appreciate the song.

She's so cute and shy.....

This is indeed special.
I love John Lennon's music, and this version tops his original demo.
