Messi doesnt have a top level pace, his virtue physically, is a rocket like acceleration and turning ability with the ball always attached. Athletically though, the level Overmars had is almost unreachable, he was such a beast, not only his top speed was demonic, his acceleration was supreme. I still watch some old ajax/arsenal/barcelona videos, and its so amazing how he makes defenders look like snails in comparison
