A pioneer indeed....If we change the way we look at things, things around us will change. Look at what we bring home, is it made from nature and healthful? Or is it made in a chemical plant. What are the environmental consequences of buying something that is made petroleum oil? Mattresses, carpet, plastic bags, solvents, pesticides etc... there are organic alternatives to all these everyday things.

Capt. Cousteau ran a campaign called the "Rights of Future Generations". I worked for several years with people of all ages to get signatures on petitions that he used to try to convince the United Nations at the Rio Earth Summit to add those 5 Articles to protect this earth for our future generations. I am very proud to have a nice letter signed by him and today in honor of his birthday, I write: Happy Birthday Capt. Cousteau, you will live on forever in our memories and

You can thank him by not eating or buying fish! It would be a real tribute to Cousteau if people were to donate to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. These dedicated people are committed to saving whales and all of the oceans' creatures.

I grew up watching Jack Cousteau. My parents introduced me to it. I'm glad that they did. I'm glad they're here on You Tube. He made me appreciate the wonders of the sea, and I learned about life forms I didn't even know exist.

The death of the oceans which Cousteau foresaw had no hope of being avoided without international legal cooperation. There was no prospect for such cooperation 30 years ago and there still is none today. In the meantime, we have lost the entire North Atlantic cod fishery, most of the wild Pacific Salmon runs, and the North Pacific Tropical Gyre has become a floating garbage dump of plastics twice the size of Texas. If we don't change our ways we will doom every living thing on the planet.
