The reason is because there were fewer people with shitty digital cameras back then -- shows that got filmed very often got actually taped, like with VHS camcorders, which are better quality than your average digital snapshot cam. Also, there are a lot less "old" videos, so there's that...

Ugh this video is frustrating to watch now. I just came back from their show @ the same venue (Palladium) and it was not good. They played for 1hr45min, half their usual set and generally looked like they didnt want to be there. Plus I have a combined 20+ people's sweat on me. Anyways I look forward to their next not-suck album but do not plan on seeing them in the near future /rant

Well what do you consider prog metal? I find most metal genre's have a very american style about them(being louder, faster, more in your face). The Mars Volta have influence's of latin music, punk, and a lot of other things going for them.

Don't pull that out. I love metal, but don't gimme that shit. MV has soul and that's what Pridgen wants. So many metal bands are soulless these days and very few are even good anymore. Very little originality today and it's pretty sad cause i'm a die-hard metal fan. Lucky for me a few bands like the Faceless, BTBAM, and Meshuggah keep the torch going.

In my opinion Jon Theodore is more John Bohnham, Thomas Pridgen is more dare I say Tony Williams. Not saying Thomas is better than Mr. Williams but Thomas' style is a little more cerebral, Jon Theodore's style slams a little heavier. all in all both are amazing drummers!

They're pro's because they've got talent, their styles vary and it's impossible to compare these two. Jon was something no one can ever be for the Mars Volta and their sound will never be the same.
