Hi! I tried to use the Microsoft Application Compability, but when I select the Dungeon Keeper 96 file, it just says that it's read-only (Swedish "skrivskyddad"), therefore I can't choose that file. Is there someway I can go around that? Really miss the game a lot!

For anyone who was having problems with the setup.exe try disabling data execution prevention, After doing that it finally launched the application. I'm not sure if this works for everyone but it did for me.

I'm using Windows Vista. I was able to run Dungeon Keeper while skipping some of the steps he mentioned. I didn't have to edit any files within Dungeon Keeper, I just had to follow the instructions on the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit. Thanks!!! To be honest, just download Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2 from GOG COM it saves all the flaming hassle as it has been adapted to work on all windows versions, i have nothing to do with gog.com but its simply less problematic as i tried this guys method and i couldnt get it to bloody work. I wont miss the flaming $5.99 seriously.

@fredworm001 DK1 is only the base game, no Deeper Dungeons. And both are pretty unstable on Win 7, DKII's map doesn't work at all. I don't know about the extra packs are included in GOG DKII.

The only thing you've to do to fix that color problem is to open screen properties before you start Dungeon Keeper.

Right-click on your desktop and choose Screen properties. Then just start the game while having the screen properties window open in the background and it should work. :)

Don't ask me why it works, it just does.

I think this only works on Vista and Windows 7. But then, I don't think Windows XP has the same problem.

@kingfiirenze You need to go to the keeper95 file that was installed on your computer, not the one on the disc. It should be in a folder called 'Bullfrog' in program files. :)

I have the annoying problem of not even being able to install the game. If I try to install it via the .iso I downloaded, it says that I must check if the game is compatible with x64. I can't even install it. I tried to copy all of the contents in the .iso to a folder in my desktop and run the setup.exe, nothing happens. And I won't bother with dosbox, so I guess I'm fucked. This almost worked for me.

The intro movie played and the disk icon shimmered, however I got a Data Execution Prevention error.

Once I had turned off this bothersome DEP via the command line(run-> cmd, google disable DEP for tutorial) the game worked fine.

(If you find this a bit too drastic might be worthwhile trying to disable visual themes and desktop composition first)

it didnt work -- but maybe thats because I had 2 problems following your instructions. First, when you said to change the KEEPER.CFG file, it would not allow me to save the change. Nothing I tried worked, so I moved on without that. Second, when you said open Application Compatibility Manager as an administrator, that was impossible since 'Run as Administrator' was not in the drop-menu. It's weird -- I have that option for any other program, but not that one. So, any ideas how to do this?

@Narodnik47 RunasAdmin wasnt an option on my dropdown menu either( v 5.6). Howvr I was able to run the program under RunasAdmin by finding where it was installed(C:\Program Files\Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit\Compatibility Administrator (32-bit))andR. clicking on it.

A lot of people on the net recommend installing the game to a non protected folder for instance make a games folder like the vid rather than installing to Programfiles, the cfg prob might be an rights issue.

I doesn`t work. But, they do not have the 5.5 edition of the compability toolkit, only 5.6. I don`t know if that`s why it didn`t work or what ever, but still annoying. However I have the dungeon keeper gold edition and dk1 runs perfectly in dosbox without so much "work" besides the gaming itself :) But the deeper dungeons just refuses to install, and I have tried nealry everything really.
