  • Looks good, but a take from the side, not from the stern, would be more telling.

  • @theSculler

Thanks. I think the best angle is directly down shaft at the catch either from the stern or from the bow with the camera ahead of the boat. That's what I asked the "camera man" to do but this is what I got. I'll try to get some more footage and post soon, this vid is 3rs old.

  • hes not backing his blade in

  • @Jboiineate its not so much of a back as matching the oarspeed with the water speed as you enter the water. splashing is wasting energy. but yes it is more important to lock your blade into the water which is a lot better than wasting your drive and catching after you start moving your slide. there is a good article on the catch in this month's rowing news mag if you want to check it out.

  • a lot harder than this looks!

  • Wow!! Impressive catch!!! What's that stroke rate?.. Very very good!!!

  • @Airman749 Thanks man. I think it was at a 33.

  • very, very impressive. i wish my catches were that good. is that your race pace?

  • @mbw12194 Thanks! Yeah, that's about a 33spm I think.

  • ver nice

  • Wow, this is a really nice catch; not rowing it in like a lot of the guys on my team tend to. Good shit.

  • is this catch for racing rate?

  • Great catch! Blades do go a bit deep after the catch... but still way way better than my catch!

  • i create lots of splash. helps me keep cool in hot summer weather. it is a water sport after all.

  • Not bad you only miss a tiny bit but you create no splash so its pretty damn good.
