@Bobbias it looked pretty old, so it wouldn't surprise me if there was somewhere... there's also mercury in those twirley light bulbs and all fluorescent bulbs, projector lamps, ald cell phones, and many other things. regardless, i dont want to breath that shit.
@genesis1357 Well, yeah, it's never good to breathe that in, but I have never heard of a transformer containing mercury. Basically all that's in those are laminated sheets of steel, copper or aluminum windings, and a some sort of insulating varnish on the windings... I happen to be an electrical engineering student, so I've been around a lot of transformers recently and to my knowledge none of them contained mercury. Now, I could easily imagine lead based paint on something older like that...
@Bobbias haha this is true. and since this seems to be an area of expertise for you... where can i get enough mercury to build a small MAR? (Mercury Arc Rectifier)
@genesis1357 Honestly, I don't know. It's not exactly easy to get a hold of mercury, as far as I know. It IS a dangerous substance. You should try to see if there are any chemical supply companies around your place, like the kind of places that supply schools with their chemicals, and such. You might be able to buy small amounts of mercury from them.
how could you do that to the legendary nokia 3310

600v to 120 is really common in the industry.
Depending on the VA, is shouldnt be rreally pricey if you just want to burn down a cell phone.
charlou3 2 years ago
The cell phone as a load became shorted, causing max current in transformer, burning it up.
