I'm not too well up on Mayan mythology and that, but I think their calendar stops there because they didn't really see the need to go much further. The earthquake prediction was made subsequently to add a bit of drama to the the sudden ending of the calendar. Probably by Hollywood, etc...

Solstices are generally recorded as it's a point when everyone can recognise that time's big cycle is entering another phase.

This song is about Chapter 24 of the I-ching. FU - The Great return.

There is a cycle called the great return, and we are in the 5th kingdom of mankind. According to the mayans it ends in dec 21st 2012 by earthquake on the winter solstic :) (this is also why stone henge marks the solstice and other monuments.)
