This was one of the first songs I learned to play on guitar. It's got such energy and it's such a simple, excellent song. Michael Card is one Christian artist that more people need to know about. His songs always have such depth compared to most music made by Christians, or people in general.
I was raised in a Christian home, so I didn't really have a huge testimony of leaving all this worldly stuff to follow Christ. BUT let me tell you, I've been married to a wonderful man for 2 years now. Oh man, I realized I'm so prideful and stubborn - and so is he! What a beautiful thing to work at drawing closer to the Lord to improve our marriage and "watching (my) pride drift away". It's a moment by moment thing, but oh does it make a heavenly marriage! : )

Worldly satisfaction is like a piece of thin paper that if you lean your whole weight on it, you'll find yourself falling into disappointment and dissatisfaction. Nothing compares to the love Jesus gives us to break free from our addictions.
The things and dreams we think are so important at the time, we hold on to them like children not knowing the cost and the hard reality or the truth of them behind the veneer, only time can make us see that only obedience can distinguish the wise and foolish builders.
It always amazes me that Michael Card can play the guitar so well with it being played upside down. He takes a regularly stringed right hand guitar and flips it over and does not reverse the strings. Anyone who plays guitar understands how difficult this would be. I saw him years ago at the church I was attending and never forgot his unusual way of playing. It is very clear in this video. Thanks for posting.
This coming from a fan of bands like Napalm Death, Cephalic Carnage, and Decrepit Birth, Michael Card's music cuts me deeper than any of those others. God speaks through him.

I love this song. The freedom of walking with Christ and not obeying the flesh is real and this song expresses it beautifully. I love the duet aspect too. We dont run the race alone..we encourage oneanother on as we see the day approaching.
Michael Card has been a blessing to my life. I got to know the Lord in 1998 when a friend from South africa left me a copy of Michael's Album "The Life" and Keith Greens "No Compromise". Two months later I got saved cause these guys don't just sing because there is mention of Jesus or God in the song, but because they are truly God's workmen.
Our lives are not about "the pursuit of happiness", but the pursuit of holiness. Is all secular music sin? no. Is going to the theatres wrong? no. Yet let us separate ourselves from the world. "Come ye OUT FROM AMONG THE WORLD AND BE YE SEPARATE SAITH THE LORD; TOUCH NOT THE UNCLEAN THING AND I WILL RECEIVE YOU UNTO MYSELF."
Let's lay all things aside that hinders us from a relationship with God. Let us decrease to utterly nothing, as we bring God glory, for He is surely worthy. Let us never be ensnared to serve God because it will do us good, but because God deserves us, and our love and obediance to Him. God is not a means to an end - namely, your happiness. When I hear brother Card's music, I can't help but to connect his expressiveness with what I would expect King David to have showed through his music. This music has greatly ministered to my heart. It beckons me to put away all the vanities in this world, and be "a man after God's own heart." Oh what glory and communion we could have with God if only we could do that which God asks. "Lay all your treasures aside, and come and follow me."
ITA! Truly a modern day David. A minstrel to the Master's will. What an awesome call and ministry! Thank you God, for giving each of us talents to bless others. May we ALL worship You by exorting your people and ourselves to holiness.
