Where is the lyricism? There are too many folks in the guitar music fan club who have an almost fetish obsession with technique. It is not very musical in itself. This just sounds like a fussy and rushed Japanese sexual encounter. The chordal passages are so fast. It is clear that Yamashita cares nothing for harmony and cannot feel it. I would just as soon listen to a typewriter. Listen to Dimitri Illaranov's version of this. Now that's the proper marriage of technique and musicality.
I agree, he has such a wide tonal range that enables him to create such amazing moods. He plays the part at 1:05 so softly but still very discernible, it's just a very well done piece start to finish played by Yamashita.
I actually prefer viloteau to this. yamashita buzzes so much, and his tone is mediocre at best. I do appreciate his passion, but he's sloppy as hell. (just like eliot fisk, but a bit more refined.)
Yamashita use a diferent construction guitar, Thomas has a Smallman and the guitar tone is even and well defined in itself, as well as full sound where you touch
@betterdayz2011 Your so fucking wrong its not "soft and boring" he puts soul into it and lets the emotion and music shine through where as kazuhito rushes through and loses the meaning of the music.
@betterdayz2011 the andres segovia version is diabolical too, i think its the best version of it, but i agree the yamashita one really rocks! the difference is that the segovia version is more passionate/romantic, and yamashita is more technical.

First time I listen to this guitarrist. And I am fascinated. A virtuoso, indeed.

Why have the comments with lots of thumbs up been removed?
Maybe because they said that this shit is not musical at all?
Yamashita rape every single piece of music he touch.

He gives a coherent arc to the piece, which is hard to do because everything is so fragmented but similar
