Japan has invested alot in robots over the last few years to make them to assist thier aging population without importing human labor. Back in like 2003 Japan owned 40% of worlds robots. Microsoft Robotics Developers Studio software didn't realease till 2008 (free to download at Microsoft). So USA seems to be lagging.
