  • history channel is extermly dumb they think the cyclopes gave zeus the power of lightning he was born with it and hera wasnt his sister she was a mortal who became o god they did have two children appolo and ares oh and zeus had a master bolt

  • @richard27412, the Cyclopes did reward Zeus the power of lightning and Poseidon the trident and Hades the helmet of invisibility after Zeus released them, along with other children of Gaia, from Tartarus. Hera was the sister and wife of Zeus. Apollo (twin brother of Artemis) is the son of Zeus and Leto (daughter of the titans Phoebe and Coeus). Ares was said to be either son of Zeus and Hera or just Hera alone (it's been suggested that she became jealous after the birth of Athena).

  • I understand why the History channel tries to tie in Christianity to Greek myths but they simply did a very lousy job, confusing everyone and making the connections very weak. They simply should of stuck to just the myths themselves as they are excellent for reading and fascinating. They Odyssey definitely being the greatest myth ever told.

  • So many gods -__- This is why im part athiest

  • zeus look kinda gay

  • i thought zeus had muscle #Just sayin

  • a thought zeus was liam neeson ? lol

  • All the video starts cool-until it reaches the Jesus part. Ridiculous! Not to mention juvenile & unprofessional. Just because they're Christians, does not mean they should do a HISTORY documentary on GREEK DEITIES, then proceed to belittle the religion & inject inaccurate propaganda. This only shine a negative light on Christianity. I'm glad I got to watch this here-now I know to never take history.com seriously or consider it trustworthy. When I see it on TV, I know it's time to switch channel.

  • @Yumise

It's a little odd. In the other parts of this series they seem to be against Christianity suggesting that it was copied from Greek mythology. I don't really mind them talking about Christianity in a piece about Greek gods because they are related topics, but they could have segued it into the discussion better and made what they were trying to say more clear.

  • @StuartMason09 This one's actually light on Christianity side. Try watching the Hades & Thor ones - things starts getting very obvious. Essentially, they say all Gods are just low level appetizer before Jesus come - and history.com twist facts to do so. Ending of Hades's a joke while the Thor's just plain incorrect. While the connection is fascinating, the way history.com twist information is sick & their tone is VERY bias in the Hades & Thor ones. It become an obvious propaganda.

  • @StuartMason09 Oh, I watched Hercules too. That one's pretty clean, but the burning... the known version is that his wife, tricked by a centaur, applied a toxic blood on his robes, and it burnt his skin until he dies - he wanted to live. I don't think Jesus's self-sacrificing death was drew from Hercules. I think his crucifixion is historical fact.

If you watch Thor, to clear the confusion, Ragnarok is a prophecy of future & some Norse deities is said to survive it.

  • Why you keep removing my comment?

    Retarded shit.

  • the hundred handers will damn ladawn for ever

  • that what it looks like in mt codys belly all them kids he ate and damned

  • Instead of studying for my Greek creation myth test tomorrow, I'm watching this video and will probably do just fine. And that's how you get by in college without buying textbooks!

  • keth rup my 4 tupac poster.

  • ive seen in most these documentaries Jesus comes in at the end and overtakes the main character. this is bullshit linking the two and make one superior, just because more people are into Christianity and that also because the people who made this are Christians.

  • omg i just watch zeus in school yesterday and its so awsome and i had to take a test on it and it was so easy and i got an A+ xP

  • Damn whoever played Hera is sexy.

  • does anybody know the names of the paintings in 28:54? thanks!

  • i want them to make one on prometheus if they had can someone tell me

  • je-zues

  • Rhea is HOTTTTT!

  • zuess fooled ya all he is hey zuess (jesus)

  • His father wasn't much of a god if he didn't know the difference between a stone and a baby. He also didn't know where his son was. Who would want a god that doesn't know his but from a hole in the ground.

  • Kronos,you were a very mean father

  • I love how they say "to us, it's a myth" and then "what the book of Genesis is to our world." Some of "us" are Hellenic Polytheists, and happen to believe in Zeus and the other Gods and Goddesses of the pantheon, not The Bible. No offence to Christians, but if you're producing a scholarly video, don't assume that the audience will follow one faith or that said faith is superior.

  • History Channel wasn't getting off topic, comparative mythology is a huge field in mythology studies. Christianity did usurp old religions and they mention it briefly at the end, that's hardly getting off topic. It's concluding the end of the time of Zeus worship.

  • @RushBeatles they could just as well brought the sumerian flood into this, and i bet the japs have something about flood too, why not bring that up as well

  • After 42:40 i was like WTF?

  • U believers of Zeus gotta be joking, you worship someone who has sexual desires, likes revenge, are afraid of people taking over him? Oh my goodness, this is the joke of the century

  • zues flood, reason why Atlantis is gone? maybe?

  • In spanish jesus is pronounced Hay zeus which means hale Zeus. The name jesus is not hebrew at at all its part greek latin and english. The Mesiah's name is Hebrew.

  • Well im tired of Holywood BS, that it just can't swallow greatness without any caucasian trait in it. So because they are gods they must have blue or green eyes, yep. Just put them like they are today, not the mixed but the countrymen, they are brown, thick and short! What's wrong with that?! Ooooh! to "uncivilized" for the public eye?! Let me stop here, im about to begin coursing.

  • @936justme But in the classical texts we have from Greek literature, the attributes of the gods are given - Zeus was said to have silver eyes.....

  • @bigbeddie ok i give you that one, but the rest? Im talking how the general media portraits it on tv

  • to me all gods in every culture are the same God who is giving the same message just in a different way

  • fantastic videos

  • thats true

  • Well holy fuck! Does my previous comment prove that I saw the agenda coming? Noahs flood? Thanks uploader but, this series can gtfo. From the get go this entire program had the vile stench of a Christian dogmatic under current.

  • From 0:00 to 3:00 - What, like Christians do now? I don't like learning about cultures from American programs... They tend to kinda rub me up the wrong way.

  • one god only and his name is God

  • that's not right i believe in Egyptian, Norse, roman, and Greek gods so watch it

  • I like this series and appreciate its upload, but find it ironic how they have "cleaned it up" for our contemporary social and sexual sensibilities.

  • Why are people commenting about cult's, satanists and George Washington

    ??

  • Comment removed

  • First of all. Christ our LORD did not destroy religion.

He proved to us all He was God. The only true God.

All the rest are fallen angels. Second. Kratos is in Greek mythology.

But as a servant of Zeus. Kratos actually bound Prometheus for Zeus.

    Hercules set him free.

  • They non't gods! But Fallen Angels = Demons Angels Orgy with woman = Titans

  • @pipo26100 if there fallen angels, where are there wings?

  • i think the greeks had a pretty great view of life & faith ...but then came jesus and messed it up

  • Comment removed

  • @Left4D3V Dumb, Now imagine Greeks as muslims... Suicide Bombers, BOOM* the end.

  • @Left4D3V wow

  • Is it strange if I kinda believe in all this stuff?..Cause I do.

  • @Wolfscar45 NO ITS ABSOLUTELY FINE, SOME OCCULTISTS USE THESE SPIRITS, LIKE ONE HIGH PRIEST I KNEW CONVERSES WITH ALL THE PLANETS BUT HAS A THING FOR MARS, AND GODS LIKE THOR, ODIN, HERCULES, GEORGE WASHINGTON.

  • @AresCosmos george washington...lol!

  • @thrashSJ YEA ALSO SAINT GEORGE, WASHINGTON WAS ACTUALY A HIGH OCCULTIST, AND HE WARNED OF THE SECRET GROUPS LIKE MASONS ILLUMINATI, U KNOW WHO OWN EVERYTHING ALMOST AND ARE SATANISTS.

  • @Wolfscar45 No not at all dude i believe in the roman gods and goddesses cuz i am a roman pagan.

  • Dempseyroll13 all of the gods were giant the titans just chose to stay that way while the olympians chose to become smaller for many reasons... One of which is to "relate"to humans.hades by the way was tricked into controlling the underworld by his younger brothers(zeus, poseidon) because he was the most powerful ,zeus has a stronger weapon but is weaker himself compared to hades.in other words had not zeus and poseidon teamed up then hades would have ruled everything.

  • I have learned alot about zeus from this documentary but please dont insert jesus in this documentary .... unless you establish a family /freind or rivalry connection between jesus and zeus inside classic mythology .......this was supposed to be about zeus and zeus alone and all of a sudden you insert jesus at the end of this documentary ....Message to history channel STAY ON TOPIC

  • @sagitarian000028 The history channel is very liberal and anti-christian. They have a motive for the constant mention of Jesus and Christianity. They lower the deity of Jesus by comparing him and the Christian roots to that of greek gods and other myths. Here come the Atheists saying Jesus is a myth as well and all gods are the same. LOL - There is no other God besides Jesus Christ.

  • @mnqueita09 Do your history trace the name Jesus and see for yourself that it is not the name of he Son of Yahuwah. I beleived in Jesus all my life as a christian. Bu the father is bringing His children back to truth!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @sagitarian000028 It's social commentary on christianity, the popular religion today. If greek mythology seems ridiculous to us today, but believed by ancient greeks, how is our modern day religious beliefs not as ridiculous?

  • @sagitarian000028 its the same on the hades one -.-

  • @sagitarian000028

fuck off, Zeus was Original , EVERYONE copied from him.

  • @sagitarian000028 A myth is a myth whether it's zeus hades jesus mohammad lucifer whoooo scary. But I get your point.

  • Without the fear of Zeus. Men would live like beasts.

And the weak would be in the hands of the strong.

  • @agustinkaren Norse mythology has more monsters.

Look at Lord of the rings for example. Or Beowulf.

The Hercules episode would've been better if they showed him killing Ladon. The guardian of the aples of the Hesperides.

  • Made for Christian prudes.

Not a bum or nipple in sight.

This is not as the Greeks perceived them.

Inspired by 300 artwork and too dark for Hellenic tastes.

But a breakthrough for yanky doc's to even give the possibility of gods other than their own.

  • I wish they had done Odin. It seems they tried to do all the Norse gods in three episodes. While the Greek gods got seven episodes.

Well Odysseus was mortal. And he got two. So six people from Greek.

And three people from Norse. In a way Norse mythology was the Greek mythology of the dark ages. But alot bloodier.

  • poseidon is the second most powerful

  • @joejoe45ful Zeus Poseidon and Hades were really thought to be sort of equal. Hades was just pissed because out of the three things to rule over he had to choose last, left with the underworld, which is merely not exciting as the sky and ocean. Poseidon was really the greatest, because back then the sky wasn't really used nearly as much as the seas were; especially to the Greeks, who were all about the coasts and their giant navy fleets.

  • @Volcanic9 yeah but zeus was much more powerful than them bcuz he used his powers of thunder to install fear and zeus was still king and poseidon wasnt so yeah poseidon was always second to zeus

  • @joejoe45ful it was the same simple thinking that lead Zeus to foolishly choose the domain of sky over sea, as well predicted by Poseidon. You see he knew that Zeus may be able to kill one man at a time with his bolts, but will never have the devastating power of the tsunami, nor the ability to instill fear of an angry ocean into the hearts of a coastal economy. Zeus is king only in a figurehead sense, gods still do as they please -Zeus may kill your friend, but Poseidon will erase your nation.

  • @Volcanic9 Zeus will rape everyone in your nation. Poseidon will drown your ships. Either way, it's still a bad day.

  • @Volcanic9 actually zeus doesnt have the power of a wregular lightning bolt he can concentrate many into one that can equal the power of many many suns and can destroy the world if he wanted to but simply he doesnt i dont like zeus at all its just that heis more powerful

  • @joejoe45ful Wrong. Zeus can never destroy the world because it is ruled by Gaia; that's why neither of the three have control over the ground.

  • @Volcanic9 zeus wants to rule and control the world that is why he never destroyed it

  • @joejoe45ful yes, thank you for clarifying that fact. Except, in the condition that he did not want to rule over the world, he would remain unable to destroy it alone, as earth itself is again, Gaia, and a god of it's own, not just a giant rock.

  • @Volcanic9 well isnt uranus the sky and zeus rules that right well gaia doesnt seem to be any younger than uranus or less powerful and zeus has more than enough power to destroy the world but he just doesnt want to

  • @Volcanic9

Zeus is more powerful than Gaia. In the myths Zeus chose a flood to kill mankind instead of his thunderbolts for fear that if he unleashed his power in anger he would not only destroy Earth but might accidently destroy the heavens as well. It's been suggested that Zeus is more powerful than all of the Olympians combined.

  • Kinda bad picturing, titans were giants

  • its all true i seen it

    ther 9 ralems

ther not gods ther like us but ther been rond long time wer they cume from they dont age they cum on sky brige

  • GOD AND JESUS IS MUCH WAY COOLER THAN ZEUS!

  • @carlogwapo1234 I'm not mad, but Why?

  • I like this series. It's just a shame they didn't do Achilles, Jason,

Odin, Baldur, Loki and Freyja. Freyja looked pretty.

  • @trentstevenson100 Dang, if they made Achilles, Jason, Odin and Loki, I'd be stoked.

    THEY NEED TO DO MORE!

  • The great flood they talk about in here is similar to the biblical one but in the biblical one there were 8 survivors. Noah and his wife and his three sons and their wives.

  • omg i thought the greek gods were supposed to be hot, but they just look like a bunch of creepy hags *shiver* im creeped o.O

  • they all look creepy =_=

  • The son that would overthrow Zeus is Kratos =P

  • i miss this show :(

  • Zeus was the devil and his Gods on olympus where the fallen angels, there is evidence showing zues as satan

  • @allrightsreserved88 The fuuuuuckkk?

  • @allrightsreserved88 ok you peaked my curiosity. what is this evidence?

  • @RedDragon033195 the evidence is deep inside his asshole. How can you get evidence from someone who believes in some Sky fairy?

  • @RedDragon033195

well jesus in the bible is noted for saying That satans throne was in pergamos which if you look online at ancient maps you will see pergamos is what scholars now call Mt. Olympus. It was the area of land between Cyprus and Mycenae. And if you look into greek lore zeus and his gods had sex with and even raped women. Their babies where giants who where powerful beyond normal means aka demigods. The Sumerians said giants with unmatched strength where on the earth in those days.

  • @allrightsreserved88 mmm, in all of my [purely academic] study of the bible, ive never seen anything like that. if you would link that passage to me i would greatly appreciate it :) the giants mentioned in the bible are not said to be from "fallen ones." they are just from "sons of god." god being the creator in christian mythology, uranos being the creator of greek mythology, angels being sons of god, and the gods being children of uranos. if anything the gods and angels are the same things.

  • And it is further wrote that these giants with extraordinary power were the direct offspring of the gods and mortal women. These giants where the breeding offspring of what the book of genesis and the Talmud call the Nephelim. The nephelim in hebrew means "the fallen ones". When god cast satan out of heaven it was wrote that he took with him angels to make his army. And where he landed was written in every religious and historical text as On earth. So the parallels between not just jesus but

  • Respond to this video... Almost all historic, esoteric, ritualistic and medeval writings point that satan fell from grace or gods kingdom, landed on earth, taught men science and magic, fucked our women, gave birth to giants, aka hercules and gilgamesh, and so on and so forth so these parallels show me he and his gods who did immoral things like rape, and cause war amongst man was truly satan and not the creator of us humans.

  • Respond to this video... And if you look into geological history it shows us that there was a giant flood after the last ice age. This flood is documented in every single religious scripture not just the holy bible so people dont think im pushing christianity im merely stating what ive researched. This flood was supposedly the flood noah built his ark for to survive. This flood was sent BY GOD to wipe these immoral giants off of the earth. It said god grew tired of their immoral nature

  • Respond to this video... So my guess is if you truly want to know what the face and body and stature of lucifer aka satan looks like google the statue of Zeus that still stands today in greece. He was a good looking and physically fit dude but none the less evil as evil could be. And if you do look up the statue look at his staff which is where his power of lightning or light came from it is the same staff held by the egyptian sun god ra and the norse god odin. They are all the same

  • Respond to this video... this rod was his staff of power and dominion over all man and all other gods it is translated as where the light comes from or the bringer of light. The word lucifer is binded into the word Illuminati and means the holders of light. Which is an ancient Sumerian ritual which can be traced back to adam and eve and the garden of Eden and even more lucifer bringing adam and eve light and knowledge from the tree of knowledge. Its all to coincidental to not be related

  • @allrightsreserved88 you are writing too much for me to respond. i think that you should know that you are not talking to a christian, and i know about the flood, and the similarities between different religions. however i also know that many of the deities that you are listing to me such as ra or zeus GREATLY inspired the abrahamic religions. i have to go, blessed be!

  • i like it because zeus marries all kinds of wamen then eats them

  • wheres the KRAKEN

  • 35:06.... please control your voice, Kristina Milnor!

  • think of this let say that the god we believe in maybe the a son that zeus had and that he became more powerful cuz we believe in him.

  • excellent documentation. the best iv seen so far. but ummmm 1 suggestion. the gods are suppose to be the most beautiful creatures. would it had killed them to use more handsome actors?? lol j\k.

  • @chelsloverbd Except for Hephaestus.

  • Raiden was Zeus brother

  • Kristina Milnor.. your voice and appearance is the equivalence of being in hell. Actually quite worse.. there is tartarus.. then below that you are locked in a room with Kristina Milnor.

  • Comment removed

  • Christina Milnor.. I've never heard anyone more annoying than you. Get back in the kitchen.

  • Comment removed

  • @JasonFrameDungeon I agree that Milnor's voice is annoying, but nevertheless, she's just as intelligent as any of the men speaking in this documentary, so please stow that unoriginal sexist remark/attitude and try sticking to the humor displayed in your second comment on here, which I actually found to be quite hilarious. ;D

  • it wouldnt be noahs ark because they said only two were on the ark but in noahs story it said his family came along with him.

  • i wish they made one for athena

  • @hypebeast111. Yeah I guess...but u think he wouldn't since she saved him.

  • nice manskirts on 4:11

  • Make that 212 likes!

  • Whats the name of the Greek author they mention at the beginning of the video? Its not very comprehensible to me.

  • what happened to zeus's mother? the one that "saved" him. Did zeus banish her along with the other titans to tartarus?

  • the baby that Zeus feared, was it Kratos?

  • @TheRampage125 lol what baby?

  • @TheRampage125 Kratos has NOTHING to do with greek mythology, GOW just made up Kratos out of no where

  • @123viperdude kratos was a god he was a sibling of nike. son of pallas and styx

  • @dylthan1 but in GOW it lies and makes up a story of how he kills gods and was zues's son (when he wasn't)

  • I think History Channel should continue this series...

  • This Is Real

  • Hera has a french manicure. Love it.

  • OMG I LOVE YOU FOR POSTING THESE VIDEOS.

  • I wish they did more documentaries like this, instead of crap like Ice Road Truckers and Larry the Cable Guy(or whatever is called). This is History.

  • amen brotha

  • That woman always yelling is so annoying.

  • it seems that most of the problems or tragedy came from the gods.... btw zeus is hot

  • thank you so much for uploading this. :D greek mythology is one of my favorite topics. ^_^

  • @TONGANZRULE34 there is. I wish there was one on Aphrodite.

  • It's not "Zoos", but "Zeh-oos", accent in the last syllable. Strange; those at History Channel have all the means to find out how is it really pronounced. And Zeus wasn't "dethroned" by Jesus... people just stopped believing in Him. The documentary is pretty good, but has some dubious details, sorry.

  • @agormanvideos i know, these stupid people think that they have to include ALL religions in these documentaries so they dont offend anyone. just keep mythologies separate and treat them as that. lol

  • Now that I think about it, did Zeus ever have any children by his wife Hera?

Or was it all illegitimate children?

  • @TheJboy88 Zeus and Hera had 5 children: Ares, Eileithyia, Eris, Hebe and Hephaestus

  • zeus is hot...

  • it seems like people back then like to mate with there family, kinda grosh. even for back then

  • Mr Manello's class is reading this comment 8-)

  • Mr Manellos class is reading this comment 8-)

  • 100 handers look creepy

  • i wish i were ancient greek

  • I'm wearing a toga right now.

  • the titans look homeless

  • i thought oranos was zeus' father?

  • @darklightartist Ouranos (Uranus) is the Father of Cronus, who in turn is the Father of Zeus

    so Ouranos is Zeus's Grandpa

  • This was a fabulous show. A shame I am already talking about it in past tense. It should still be on, but History Channel has opted for shows with Larry the cable guy. Dumbasses at HC don't realize when they have gold on they're hands.

  • @ccipollini1984 What makes them more money and attracts more views? Im sure thats what they went for.

  • I would have loved to be a greek and believe in this stuff
