The reason why so many parents even go through with this stupid surgery is mostly because they have absa-fucking-lutely no idea of what it's about, and just think it's this harmless little snip they do to the babies after birth. You can argue wether circumcision is harmful or not all day long. I am on the side of the ban but there are some valid points to be considered in favor of procedure. What I find appalling is the way this joke of an anchor behaves like she knows everything there is to know about... just about anything. Well, I, for one, am eternally grateful to my parents that they had me circumcised as a baby.
I don't remember it, it has caused me no problems, I don't remember the so-called "trauma" or "pain", and I am perfectly happy with my penis. I am VERY glad that I didn't have to go around looking for a circumcision doctor when I was an adult and could remember the pain of the procedure. THAT would've been damaging (and yes, I definitely would've gotten one later if I hadn't been circumcised as a baby).

@ammarios I guess it's a personal preference thing: I personally find foreskin to be gross & skanky, & EVERY single time I've encountered one, no matter how many times the guy says he's showered & cleaned, there's ALWAYS at least a faint musky gross odour. I've never been turned away for being circumcised, but I definitely know many men who get turned away from women (and men) for being uncircumcised.
Again, it's a personal preference thing. If you're uncut, all the more power to you.

It is not true that benefits of circumcision can be gained only by hygiene and responsible sexual behavior as medical circumcision is required for some diseases that only uncircumcised individuals get and the protection in Africa (the highest populated HIV area in the world) points to the opposite. This may be a genetic thing, but the results having no bearing on the US.
@jshowa7 , and these diseases are so rare that it is much more of a common sense to treat them as they come along than just have routine circumcision just to prevent these few cases. Then again, I have never heard of these diseases, which is telling as those who support circumcision often cite the rarest and most obscure conditions to justify it.

There is also a reason why uncircumcised men are more susceptible to HIV. It is due to the excessive amounts of Langerhan cells on the foreskin that provide receptors for the HIV-1 virus.

As for UTI, logistically speaking, the foreksin have nothing to with anything if the urine flows back to the liver and bladder (and even then, I never heard of urine flowing all the way back to the liver or the bladder for that matter, working against gravity).

There also aren't pharmacies on every street corner like in America. 3) And feast your eyes on the numerous RCT's and systematic reviews that say otherwise and are peer-reviewed.

The foreskin is supposed to be there, thus there is no problem to be fix or corrected. Well, I, for one, am eternally grateful to my parents that they had me circumcised as a baby.
I don't remember it, it has caused me no problems, I don't remember the so-called "trauma" or "pain", and I am perfectly happy with my penis. I am VERY glad that I didn't have to go around looking for a circumcision doctor when I was an adult and could remember the pain of the procedure. THAT would've been damaging (and yes, I definitely would've gotten one later if I hadn't been circumcised as a baby).

@ammarios I guess it's a personal preference thing: I personally find foreskin to be gross & skanky, & EVERY single time I've encountered one, no matter how many times the guy says he's showered & cleaned, there's ALWAYS at least a faint musky gross odour. I've never been turned away for being circumcised, but I definitely know many men who get turned away from women (and men) for being uncircumcised.
Again, it's a personal preference thing. If you're uncut, all the more power to you.

@TheSTAGcast If you knew anything about circumcision, it can do all of the following:
1) Prevent HIV infection in countries who have high HIV populations
2) Prevent UTI's and sometimes are required if the urine flows back into the liver and bladder.
3) Prevents occurrence of rare diseases that only affect people who are circumcised
4) Prevents against HPV (causes cervical cancer in women), herpes simplex, and many other sexual diseases (minus gonorrhea and syphilis)

@jshowa7 , if circumcision prevents HIV infection and STDs, then I assume you could have unprotected sex with an infected partner? You wouldn't, so a man get circumcised only to have to use a condom anyway?
As for UTI, logistically speaking, the foreksin have nothing to with anything if the urine flows back to the liver and bladder (and even then, I never heard of urine flowing all the way back to the liver or the bladder for that matter, working against gravity).

@PungiFungi I guess I should be more clear and say that it decreases the likelihood of getting it. I never said it complete eliminates it. Hell, condoms don't even completely eliminate the risk of HIV infection. So no, your assumption is absurd. Abstinence is the only 100% prevention. But hey, if you want to increase your risk, especially when you want to have a baby with someone, then go right ahead.

@PungiFungi It works for Africa which has the highest HIV population because men have multiple wives. It is not as prevalent in the U.S. because the HIV infection is not as large. And sorry to say, but some people want to have kids and do sleep around, especially in other cultures. Your chances of getting a disease is limited by condom use, just like everyone else. BUT, your experiences DO NOT reflect a representative sample of the population.

I guess people in Africa are just too dumb to learn to be sexually responsible? The sad part is that many of them, like the people in the US, are not educated on HIV and STD prevention. And you claim circumcision help prevent that, and again, that is not true. The US is proof of that.

@jshowa7 I wasn't going to respond but this one got to me. OK I'll then concede that there is conflicting data and that the IJSA has found there may be a higher risk in uncircumcised men. However, it's a moot point in my opinion and you're damn right I have an agenda against it; it's genital mutilation on an infant. Whether it allows for a decreased risk of contracting HIV or not, it's still being done on children who have no say and condoms are still the answer!

Any non-medical surgery that removes a healthy bodypart is mutilation. When a child is mutilated, then it is child abuse.

@TheSTAGcast Try doing that when you have an unstable population of people where the death rates are among the highest in the world, and the only way to survive is to reproduce. There also aren't pharmacies on every street corner like in America. I agree condoms are better, but that doesn't negate the fact that research shows it prevents HIV infection, something you denied and took the reversal on.

There's also no indication as to who wrote that source, and it isn't peer-reviewed. Joe blow could have wrote that for all I know. Here is what I suggest.
1) Go to Google Scholar
2) type circumcision HIV into the search window
3) And feast your eyes on the numerous RCT's and systematic reviews that say otherwise and are peer-reviewed.

And there are thousands of other medical procedures, including heart surgery, that can cause death, so just because people die from it, does not make a valid argument against circumcision. @jshowa7 , the difference between heart surgery and circumcision is that circumcision is not necessary to begin with. The foreskin is supposed to be there, thus there is no problem to be fix or corrected. You wouldn't pierce the ears of a newborn, much less give it a tattoo, but removing a part of his genitals is ok. Think of the logic.
