  • hey guys can u pls look at my vid :)

    watch?v=1MNnzQmR7kM

  • that man was born in the chopper!

  • Just to show how the best training and the best equipment is a recipe for succes.

  • he is not on the deck, he is behind the ship deck otherwise they would be all dead.

  • This video shows that flying a helicopter is infinitely more complicated than an airplane.

  • how about umm... the ground effect of the waves?

  • I think it is a best pilot of the world...very bad sea and wheater condition to rescue... he had a cold blood...

  • I am so impressed with what I see. quality training at it's best. good Job pilote's

  • cory45x take a flight at your local airport and they will let you try it. try hovering and see how hard it is you cocky punk.

  • @Shuyin686

do your research before you talk sh>>t you have no Idea of what these pilote's have had to go threw. try $65,000,00. dollars plus more and it does not stop there. You need alot of flight hours and ground school to fly good. Not to mention weather, so dont talk crap everone that is flight certified has earned it

  • If you know anything about aviation you should know that there is no auto pilot when flying helicopters.

  • @Khmerdragon7887 i fly in the navy sh 60 and their deffinatly is. AFCS automatic flight control system has 20 different functions. i could list them for you but i assume you already know since you know "everything" about helicopters...

  • Not to undermine the skills of this pilot, but this aircraft (6020) was hit by a rogue wave and crashed not too long after this video ends. Everyone from the flight crew survived but I think 6 or 7 sailors on the helo died. Tragic, considering the Selendang Ayu incident should have never happened in the first place.

  • We have to adapt to our nature:)

  • this are not the pilot skills, its called Hover Control.

  • balls. of. steel.

  • USCG!

  • not to bag on em but that isnt as hard as it seems. when the ground rises the air cusion it sits on does too automaticaly raising it

  • @cory45x your dumb

  • @04dak18 it is fact you know. i wasnt trying to be an ass

  • Left arm workout. :) Why didn't pull away from the vessel as soon as the person was in the sling?

  • @Seaking8959 hassle to get back into position?

  • @Seaking8959 Because he wasn't done and that sling was going back down to save more lives. That pilot was in the zone, in a comfy spot fyin' that machine like a MOFO. He could have stayed there all day. Why move and have to come back in and get set up again?

  • @1Fuzz1 Well we do it to 1. increase flight safety and 2. keep the stress of the helicopter going up and down from the victim in the sling. But different countrys bring different procedures, right. ;)

  • i missed the impressive part.

  • Respect!!

  • planking.!

  • @ Crazy, When they land on a ship, or on land, the pilot can bottom the collective (the left stick) which creates SOME negative lift. It can help stabilize an aircraft to the deck but it isn't really a lot of lift. What that does is makes the rotor blades pitch down slightly and push the aircraft down.

  • Coast Guard is brass balls best.

  • what a gorgeous machine! and what a show of skill!

  • I've been working on these USCG MH-60's for almost 20 years now and never heard of auto hover. The Pilot and Fight Mechanic are working together putting survivors down on the deck of the Haley. Flight Mech tells the Pilot what to do during a hoist and the Pilot does it. It was too rough for them to land on the flight deck.

  • @cepaasch cant yo do that thing where you turn the rotors the opposite way so it makes downward thrust so it can stick to the flight deck?

  • Brave people the coast gaurd truly...

  • an equation with too many variables : rough seas, strong winds and heavy snowfall

  • ...IT'S THE U.S. COAST GUARD, BABY!!! =D

  • wow!

  • You gotta love the sound of the helicopter rotors.......

  • Wooo yeah, staying in the box.Well done.

  • i dont quite understand whats going on here? is he landing the heli? or just trying to maintain airspeed with the boat?

  • @quakov

he's jacking off the collective so his altitude matches the bobbing of the boat so he doesn't break any of the beer bottles because it's in some batshit water.

the heli just got back from a beer and cigarette run. you can tell because in the beginning they had the the shopping basket hanging out the side of the helichopper.

either way it takes skills because the pilot has to predict and match the bobbing of the boat while hovering in one spot in what is probably shitty weather.

  • Holy shit that´s PedalWork.....

  • Geez those Seas up there are horrendous!

  • Isn't it dangerous to hover in one place for a long time like that? Don't you suffer wash-out, or something? Amazing pilot.

  • Parking like a boss

  • Some radar genius should invent an auto pilot system that keys of the movement of the ship so that the bird goes up n down exactly in sync. Youre welcome.

  • @mechiefslapahobitch im sure someone already thought of that. And im also sure if they had one, we would have cars that could park themselves everytime as well.

  • @blublast3 Yeah someone thought of it....me.

  • @mechiefslapahobitch yea... just after the many other engineers who already did too

  • @blublast3 I thought of it in 1985. Youre welcome.

  • @mechiefslapahobitch and your just commenting on it, at a video... that no one important will watch. Thanks for nothing

  • @blublast3 Well why dont you make yourself useful and forward my idea to NASA.

  • @mechiefslapahobitch how about you get off your lazy ass and submit your idea yourself. I mean it has already been 25years

  • @blublast3 How about you get off you fat lazy ass and make yourself useful for a change?

  • @mechiefslapahobitch Lol yea cause you totally know my life, lol i probably have more now, at the young age of 16, than you have your entire life.

  • @blublast3 What do you have that you paid for yourself with money you earned?

  • @mechiefslapahobitch Yea i meant "i probably have done more now", as far as living life =P money wise, i haven't really been able to earn a whole lot since i haven't had a full time job

  • @blublast3 lol....youre funny. Do you still have training wheels on your bike or have you taken those off? Whats your curfew?

  • @mechiefslapahobitch If 'training wheels' means Park Assist and 'bike' means car, then yes. My curfew? Currently i can stay out as late as i want but if i drive, it's only until like 11, the law, but i turn 17 this month so that curfew goes up to 2-3, which is fine by me =D

  • @blublast3 Sounds to me like youre a fine upstanding young man! Keep up the good work!

  • @mechiefslapahobitch Thanks man.

  • Coast Guard saved my life. I WILL NEVER FORGET!!! :)

  • RESPECT

  • Coast guard chopper pilot's are some of the best chopper pilot's ever

  • i could do that if i felt like it.

  • @DudeRandomsome sure you could

  • @1bearcatf8f

they are, but this is called autohover. Pilot issnt doing shit.

  • @staslig Pilot has to do alot duh? you gotta be a good pilot to do this still

  • @staslig Autohover, yeah.

Jesus, some of the unmitigated ignorant bullshit posted on YouTube......

  • @Redmanfms

you don't belive there is such a thing as autohover?

Modern 4axis autopilots working in tandem with a radar altimeter does this. It's not even new, it's been around for 20years.

  • @staslig It's not that I don't "believe" there is such a thing as autohover, it's that you think this is what is keeping that aircraft in sync with a moving ship. The ship isn't just pitching, it's moving relative to the helicopter at whatever speed is needed to maintain it in the wind, "autohover" isn't going to do damned thing about movement in the x-axis.

The Jayhawk isn't equipped with an "autohover." What you see in this vid is team ballet performed between the flight eng and pilot.

  • @Redmanfms

are you trying to say that todays Jayhawks which comes with full glass cocpits and advanced autopilot systems with radar alimeters, trackabeam search lights and more goodies dont have a simple system like autohover?

Even the norwegian coast guards OLD seakings have this.

The whole point of autohover in this kind of situation is relative stability in X axis.

  • @Redmanfms im a crewman in the navys sh60 seahawk. just the navys version and you're right there isnt a feature called auto hover its called radar altitude hold. one of 20 functions of the AFCS (automatic flight control system) the pilot has a function to pull into a hover automatically usint AUTOMATIC APPROACH HOVER. then dials in the altitude desired. then the AFCS goes to work using the radar altimiter and keeps the aircraft at that altitude despite the sea state. FACT

  • @staslig I don't think an autohover can do this amount of work, from what I know autohover just keeps the heli hovering in one position, not to adjust with the height.

  • @Lastoftheamericans

The autopilot installed on this aircraft would not be able to keep up with the changes in height in the waves as well as the movements of the ship. Do you think the pilot would put the aircraft in autopilot when the waves are that high? He would want manual control in case of a big wave.

Plus the ship is not only going up and down it is also going side to side, forwards, and rolling at varying speeds.

A autopilot simply could not handle all of that.

  • This was an excellent video showing the swells these pilots have to deal with. Impressive.

  • I talked to a CG pilot. He said they do have an instrument that keeps them a certain distance from the waves, but they have to keep it a certain distance from the boat. It may be computer assisted, but it still takes some impressive piloting / balls.

See a CG chopper taking off from Tampa General Hospital at DaveUTmba. It's pretty cool. Not like, stay-with-a-boat cool, but still worth a minute.

  • fake is my ass! this is pro-pilot!!!

  • they had choppers in 07 :O

  • Real footage, Take about an hour before that A/C was lost to the sea. Bless the lost soles.

  • um fake?

  • @PlasmaArmada

    No this is not fake!

  • @parkerhaynesmaritime yes it is

  • I wonder how things will go once all the Vietnam vets are all to old to fly.

I bet they are a good percentage of the chopper pilots.

  • coast guards have better pilots then the air force by far (not for combat but for daily use they will out fly air force pilots)

  • CHEERS.. BEAUTY.

  • Ladies and gentleman the U.S. Coast Guard

  • Awesome piloting!

  • I remember that incident all to well and for those fellow Coast Guardsmen and women who remember that incident, know that the outcome came at a horrible price. For those ignorant fools who enjoy wasting time writing jibberish on the USCG or any other service, take the time you wasted to write your garbage here and read a book on the history of the USCG and you see how much of an impact this small service has done (42,000 members) since its inception (04 August 1790).

  • @LOVEandROCKETSfan

Thank you for telling them I hope they listen to you.

Are you talking about the little talk (argument) I had with duncan7599 over the United States Coast Guard ?

  • @parkerhaynesmaritime . . . that be the one . . . plus I am sure countless others . . .

  • respect

  • Bet he flue in Nam.

  • Must have flown in nam.

  • The Coast Guard are nothing but Navy rejects.

  • @duncan7599

Says the person who has nothing better to do than troll YouTube videos.

I guess that would make you a de facto expert on rejects, though.

  • @duncan7599

In saying that you have proved that you know nothing about the U.S.C.G.

The U.S.C.G. is the most elite search and rescue force in the world.

If you think I do not know anything about the U.S.C.G I know someone who has been in the U.S.C.G. for over 25 years and retired 5 years ago as a Captain.

Go watch " The Guardians" Movie.

If you really think that "The Coast Guard are nothing but Navy rejects." after hearing this then you are A. from a Navy family or B. mentally retarded

  • @parkerhaynesmaritime The Coast Guard is not a real military branch. They are nothing but life guards with guns.

  • @duncan7599 nice channel, cant you find something else to obsess over . I mean background video left wing comics, rants in your bios the works

  • @duncan7599 WITH GUNS???

  • @piloty5

Yes they have guns (Used to have torpedoes and depth charges too) 40mm cannons, 20mm cannons, .50MG's, M-16's, .30MG's, and many other types.

  • @parkerhaynesmaritime i never knew they had guns...

  • @piloty5

Well they do. Now you know just look up photos of U.S.C.G. ships and you will see the guns (mostly on the larger ships (but really do you expect them to put a 20mm on a Zodiac) .

(and yes they know how to use them)

  • @duncan7599

As I said before watch the movie " the Guardians" only then will I consider that you know anything about the Coast Guard and what they stand for. Also did you know that on D-Day and many other amphibious landings the Coast Guard operated the landing craft. As for being a military branch just look it up.

  • @duncan7599

I have ruled out you being in Navy family after going to your page.

No one from a Navy family would be like you!

  • thats one hard landing

  • @LOUISVART u really dont understand pshycics.....

  • where is this?

  • You guys know the pilot isnt actually doing that? It is the autopilot controlling the helicopter.

  • he is given the oppertunity to land loads of times and he doesnt put her down

    why??

  • @LOUISVART

He isn't trying to land, look closely and you can see they are hoisting a basket to the deck

  • i must give that man his props

    he deserves em

  • Comment removed

  • To me this is more like luck...

  • @whonotwhatnot You obviously don't fly helicopters for the US Coast Guard.

  • @whonotwhatnot this is no such thing as luck in this situation...

  • Robotic arm decks should go up to a copper/ss plate contact and help the pilot in or is that too much to design and ask for?

  • @LandroverB1 Probably too much, the unpredictable swells would make it near impossible.

  • hes not moving the heli up and down by himself. hes just staying a constant height above the boat (which is moving up and down )

  • Well, that pilot was certainly motivated to get it right.

  • Im not touchin you. Im not touchin you :p

  • That's actually very dangerous. The pilot could have succumb to a vortex ring state if he lowered the collective too much. Certain doom at that height.

  • @Wags182494 Couldn't he just have got himself an armpit full & yoked the throttle? Where was the copilot? Shouldn't they both be on the controls in this situation? I've watched for flutter in the rotation-plane, dozens of times, seen none. Only rotational drift (you can see the fulesage sloooowly giving way to the torque of the blades.)

  • Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation makes these. Igor Sikorsky, born Igor Ivanovich Sikorsky was a Russian American pioneer of aviation in both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. I wish that US and Rus would be much closer allies...

  • What has not been said here is that this very helicopter crashed a during this rescue. A big wave hit the side of the ship engulfing the helo and flaming out the engines. The crew escaped but sadly, all of the rescued people on board died due to not having the training given to every helo crewman. The Dunker.

  • i would put my life in that pilots hands

  • @randix1716 You would? You know this chopper crashed, right? Someone just decided to edit out the last part where all the passengers die....

  • @f1471in3r And what does a wave hitting the chopper have anything to do with the pilots skills?

  • @SuperGankBros I believe there are two pilots, that makes two sets of eyes, one of which that should have been keeping an eye on current sea conditions, wind direction, instrumentation, etc. A failure occured somewhere, wether it was a lack of communication or whatever. I just didn't want to see yet another fooled by the magic of editing, that's all. Obviously the pilot(s) have skill, or they wouldn't be keeping bead on the pitch roll and yaw of that ship in such high chop. I can't do it!!!

  • @f1471in3r I dident know this and ime sorry for my reply.to this clip.damb i feel like a dumb ass.my condolences to the familys.god rest your soles.

  • @JmacFan4ever0709 You need to ask yourself if your willing to be pepper sprayed so that someone can live...

  • Lol... pilot decides to have a little fun

  • thats a sea hawk right?

  • @DjHappz I think USCG calls em jayhawks

  • All I can say is - WOW!

  • Kudos, these guys are real heroes.

  • I will never understand how complex this is, I am a paraglider pilot.

  • @paraglide01 ... yah, mee too.... I'm a paralegal paraplegic, myself

  • @DancingSpiderman

What the hell is a paralegal paraplegic?

  • @paraglide01 BWAAhahah I confused you BWAhahaha

  • there is a laser that detects the speed and height of the waves and so that processes automatically into the climb and torque of the engine. Basically the computer does most of the work.

  • @Trevtho Will you please explain the system you described. I was unaware that what we are seeing is purely automated.

  • @flycatch Yeah it's like a math equation. It's like the graph of Sine or Cosine where it makes a wave. And so the laser projects and makes an accurate calculation of the amplitude of the waves and uses that to make a circle with that radius length. And not to mention measuring the frequency. It projects a wave in which the helicopter follows, thus it is completely automated. But I can't just give credit to the helicopter. Pilots only use this when there are waves up to 8-20 ft. waves.

  • @Trevtho agreed.. gyros and computer flying it makes the pilot look good

  • @AntDX316 I take it you have little or no experience flying these? That pilot had his shit wired tight and his ass prolly had a good grip on that seat cushion. Give this stick jocky the credit that's due.

  • @SlowerRotor I flew the heli in numerous flight sims.. including rc.. I know that if u have computers assisting u when u fly it makes it more stable.. there is serious torque rotor roll.. without proper correction the heli would spin.. I think the computer has auto correct it for heading hold.. I take it u talk out of appearance thinking u know but know nothing at all about flying helis

  • @AntDX316 First, how much actual flight time do you have in the H-60A/L not counting sims... I prolly have more goggle time than you have sim time... I love my job, to the point that I've searched for a sim that accurately portrays the H-60, but nothing is a substitute. That's why our flight school isn't in front of a computer, but rather in a cockpit.

  • @SlowerRotor goggle time? r u saying the guy flying the heli had no computer assist? all completely manual controls?

  • @Trevtho Thank you for the explanation. I'm going to investigate this system further.

  • Military pilots are the best.

  • @flycatch ..especially American military pilots.... =P

  • Comment removed

  • how in hell did he do this.

  • its truly amazing that the boat captain had to make his ship go up and down while the helicopter pilot was CLEARLY under the influence and could not maintain a steady altitude...the nerve of some people... >:(

no but in all honesty i have the utmost respect for pilots like these :D

  • very nice

  • Is that Chuck Norris flying that heli?

  • What amazes me is how fast that pilot can make his heli go upwards, and just about at the same distance from the pad the whole time.

  • @JndBStudios just thought about that when i read your comment

  • @JndBStudios garuanteed he had the throttle at full power and was working that collective like a bat outta hell xD

  • @RomanovBuck There isn't a throttle in the H-60's. just 2 PCLs that stay at fly, engines are governed by a computer. And I seriously doubt he was moving the collective very much at all, he was just easing it around a distance of about 1-1.5 inches. Sea level PA and fridged temps like that, he has gobs of power until he hits Ng limiting... but still wouldnt hit that at sea level.

  • @SlowerRotor Yeah those aren't huge changes on the collective

  • @JndBStudios

Naw dawg. It just looks that way. It's the camera moving up and down, not the heli. He's actually not directly over the deck.

  • @JndBStudios That's because the aircraft has a doppler nav radar onboard. It's used to control hovers & approaches. I've been in worse seas than that and helped land helicopters on deck that didn't have modern avionics.

  • @JndBStudios these choppers are equipped with an auto-hover system; it basically keeps the same altitude above a deck or the sea. Pilot's still gotta keep it in the same place, however...

  • @JndBStudios thats the power of that type of helicotper 1 of the best sar helicopters

  • Some angry skills here.

  • Selendang ayu?A Malaysian ship?

  • Ok, I am no one special, I have only had one helo lesson. I do love helos and love watching them. But I gotta say, I am VERY impressed. Being able to hover, plus keeping the altitude pretty close to steady in relation to the boat, while it rides the waves, VERY nice.!!!

  • Admirable skill BIG salute to our CG people!

  • Thumbs up if you thought it landed :P

  • DAAAMMMMNNNN!!! now that is some skill right there!!!!

  • wow thats me on the bottom screen..anyways this pilot is def one of the best ;)

  • dammmm thiss nikka is goood

  • why would thay need to fly that close, or are they doing somthing

  • that is easily one of the most impressive things i have seen!
