@lacemoniter surprised to hear this from another spearo, whats the difference between this and all the fishes you have killed ? it may look rare but it isn´t ! the main difference would be the great taste in this as it lives on sea urchins and shells its like a huge lobster thats why its one the most expensive fishes you can buy here.. and i ate absolutely everything eatable on this one even the jaw muscles...

Really great video, people that hasn't tried freediving doesn't know how wonderful it is, and the feelings in your body while doing it. I haven't tried speargun fishing while freediving, yet, but would really like to try it sometime =) Do you know if there's any good spots for speargun fishing in Haugesund?

freediving is pure meditation, i have been diving all across norway from bergen til kirkenes, but never in haugesund, but i cant see why you shouldn´t be able to find fish there, go for some narrow places under bridges etc. here the water is moving because of the tide, brings a lot of fresh water and oxygen in which always creates a lot of life and therefore fishes !

I work offshore as a saturation diver and see these quite a lot. Would never want to kill one though, but I could say the same about Lamb and pretty much any meat I eat. But for one man to go out and get himself or family a meal is fine by me! Sure we've all had fish and chips?!

But after seeing Hugh's Fish Fight on TV and watching the tons of dead fish thrown back into the sea, Now that's wrong!!!!!!!!

But don't gloat with the fish on camera, it deserves to be appreciated, you ended its life

actually i dont think i did anything amazing by killing this fish, you should see my other video where i only swim along theese amazing creatures, hunting has been the way of living for humans for decades, i bet you buy your fish in the supermarket, wouldn´t even try to imagine how much the supermarket fish suffered before in ended up in your belly so leave your comments for yourself or dont watch videos like this if it makes you sad, regards

I'm not sad at all. I do my fair share of fishing but it's the fact that you were there to sport hunt. Where's the sport in killing the fish that just sat there not even moving? Lol.

The sport is to swim around in strong current in 6 degrees water diving down to 20 meters while holding your breath in theese conditions, my guess is that most people would define that as a sport, this particular fish is not always that difficult to hunt, as they come up to shallow waters in springtime ! this is app.10 meters, it could easy have been 20 meters in strong current where you mostly find this sort eating on seaurchins, even the jaw muscles on this fish was consumed

but let me put it down to this, people who do traditionally scuba diving with spearguns should be in prison, it would be like hunting at nighttime with a huge spotlight blinding the animal and then walk up to them and take the shot. the goon act in front of the camera, what can i say about that, nothing i guess other than it was lots of fun probably because i was looking forward to eat this 35 euro/kg fish !

interesting that sunlight is toxic to the jellyfish, i found this in a small current with shallow waters (0-50 meters) surround by deep fjords, they are known to exist in the deep fjords, and sometimes every year they get "washed up" in the strong current and therefore you´re able to see them in shallow waters, but they always look kind of damaged and weak, the effect of sunlight defines why.

That jellyfish is called Periphylla Perihpylla

It's an amazing deep-sea bioluminescent species. If you look at it at night, it's totally beautiful. I live in Monterey and if you go to the bay, you will see many of these at night. It turns out, unfortunately- yet interestingly, that light (especially sunlight) is very toxic to Periphylla Periphylla.

Thats one strange jellyfish. Never seen anything like it, and I usualy dive in molde and atlanterhavsvegen.

also, the wolffish tend too lie like that when spotted. Thats because it's nearly on top of the foodchain and has nothing too fear.

This is a much more humane way to fish than using a rod! imagine if you where too use a hook on a deer and drag it to death instead of shooting it and let it dye instantly!

this fish had a long and good life and probably reproduced 6-7 times, in my oppinion its better to kill theese fishes by spear than traditional fishing ! they die instantly and they are not suffering. Instead of injuring small ones i only take the big ones, ensuring that this species will live on and have the ability to reproduce again ! btw i only kill 3-4 of theese each year ! in the spring season after they have spawned their eggs !

its called HUNTING, most hunters kill their prey while its not moving, it makes it easier to hit it perfect ! people have been hunting for many many many years ! but sure, you buying the same fish in the supermarket makes you feel a lot better, cause there it grew up in a big fish farm where it lived on terrible man-made-food to make it grow faster ! or maybe they got it on a giant fishingboat, after it was stuck in a net for many hours suffocating to death !

It aint much sport shooting it, the difficult thing is to find it !

I would say it died from the shot within 1 min after getting hit, anyway after bringing it to the shore 5 minutes later the knife was planted solid in the head for about 5 times ! so don´t cry about it !
