  • which one is better?

  • @61unknow I think it's Fraps

  • @61unknow DXTory.

  • What is your system spec's?

  • Fuck! c MD!!! HAAHA!! XD

  • Fraps records lossless. And if you enable in Fraps Lossless RGB Capture, the colorspace is lossless too. DXTory has the same possibility.

You can choose a lossless codec (which even the dxtory codec already is, but I recommend Lagarith) and in the codec configuration you can set the colorspace too.

You compare now quality between DXTory and Fraps which both can use lossless encoder. Sense?

And if you even use lossy encoder like xvid its even more senseless.

  • @Fleshshredder it does shows that fraps is better in recording higher resolution (1080p) for users who uses HDD. Thus why most of dxtory videos posted in youtube are only 720p because dxtory hogs so much HDD write speed in 1080p resolution

  • @mdnpascual Then tell me how I record in 2048x1152 resolution on an USB 3.0 HDD without any slow fps or swapping fps etc. Perfect constant 30 fps the whole time at File FPS..

Its because you say sth without inform about some options first..

Standard the DXTory codec is configured to record in RGB colorspace and even not compressed. Fraps has the possibility to record in RGB colorspace too (Lossless RGB Capture option) but this is not standard enabled, in DXTory it is how said though

  • @mdnpascual Of Course is Fraps less consuming if you stay at standard settings in both programs when Fraps has standard compression enabled (which isnt possible to change, which is also not necessary because the compression is lossless & has sense to help the HDD) and not RGB enabled, while the opposite is with DXTory.

I recommend to record with the Lagarith Codec and its config set to Mode: YV12 colorspace and checkmarked use multithreading

At DXTory at advanced processing threads

  • @mdnpascual at value of physical cpu cores you have. so 4 if you have a quadcore.

And you'll see how fine DXTory records ..

Guys -> Before you say sth to the world wrong things -> inform before about the software and its options it has!

  • @Fleshshredder I've seen your channel and if you're just recording those old games, you will absolutely get 30fps smooth there. Secondly I've set my settings at its most optimized as stated in the some tutorials, Processing threads: 4, Multithreading On on lagarith and btw, I'm recording on Rawcap which utilizes 2 HDD, Main HDD (~130MBps write speed) and Ext HDD 3.0 (~60MBps)..

SO even DXtory is its most optimized settings, Fraps won this fight..

  • @mdnpascual god damn ... Did you know that Doom 2 is more complex video material than Doom 3?

Was Lagarith also set to YV12 colorspace? If you record in RGB Mode and with Fraps not than of course data amount is much higher with Lagarith...

Lagarith even does compress slightly better than the Fraps Codec...

  • @Fleshshredder Don't worry, I have 2 more test more to try, I'm just trying to buy myself an SSD and for my 2nd test again for valve games..

hopefully once I get my hands on an SSD, fraps and Dxtory will be fighting fair since DXtory is obviously is disadvantage since its outputted video has humongously high bit rate for 1080p

  • @mdnpascual This is bullshit. Lagarith compresses even slightly better than the Fraps Codec. Also I have MORE fps with Lagarith instead of with Fraps.

At Descent I get with Lagarith @ 2048x1152 120 - 150 fps Video FPS, Fraps gave me only 60fps. So Fraps even couldnt give me the next multiple of the 30fps recording fps which would be 90. So with Fraps the FPS was lower than 90. Otherwise Fraps would've set me to 90. So Lagarith was FASTER.

  • @Fleshshredder the bottom line is, Dxtory is good for low specs PC's because it can record 720p w/out slowdown since it only uses hard drive, and minimal CPU, but for 1080p, its needs a Higher Driver write speed such as a SSD, or a Ram drive. Meanwhile for fraps, it has a compression feature and its good for High End PC's that only has a HDD since its mainly using CPU to compress the captured video and minimal Write speed

  • @mdnpascual Thats really such a big bullshit what you say -.-

I record everything in 2048x1152 and I've absolutely NO PROBLEMS with an HDD. Its even faster. Also with newer games. Yes also with newer games. oh wonder...

Ah and: Every Lossless Encoder uses compression. Also your loved Fraps.

  • @Fleshshredder I'm not gonna argue with an attitude like this.. also what you're saying is basically a Fluke/Lie

You we're saying that you can record @ 2048x1152 @ 120fps(I picked the lowest, but you claim you can have up to 150fps) using HDD, lets do basic math

    2048 * 1152 * 1.5(12bit YV12) * 120(fps) = 424,673,280 byte/sec or 405MB/s

Nice try but you need 3 HDD @ raid 0 for that..

    How can you explain that?

  • @mdnpascual You understood me wrong. I meant I have 120 to 150fps to PLAY, not the video recording fps, which I have at 30fps.

So again: With DXTory I can play with 120 to 150 fps with 30fps recording fpsrate.

Fraps Recording fps : 30 too and I got only 60fps for playing. Fraps gives you a multiple of the recording rate. so in case you record with 30fps you can have 30,60,90,120 and so on fps to play. But I got only 60fps for playing with Fraps. Very seldom & short it gave me 90fps.

  • @Fleshshredder you're already caught and yet you still argue

"At Descent I get with Lagarith @ 2048x1152 120 - 150 fps Video FPS, Fraps gave me only 60fps."

I cleary read it as "VIDEO FPS" Dxtory: 120-150fps fraps 60fps

  • @mdnpascual In DXTory there are two fps counters while recording. Video FPS and File FPS. And the Video FPS is the FPS what you have while playing and the File FPS is the FPS Rate which goes into the recording.

Here a screen which shows you this

    bilder-hochladen . net/files/big/93o6-eh-2d6c.png

  • @Fleshshredder I knew it, you'll gonna post some old game, Because that won't happen in "Newer games'..

  • @mdnpascual Its the example with the game descent.

I can show you newer game if you want this so much ..

But thats not the point: The point is, that I have with DXTory this FPS while Playing and with Fraps I only had 60 fps while playing.

And I hope now this discussion is ended that Fraps or DXTory is better. Both are good programs and both have the possibility to save video lossless.

I hope that now somewhat all these wrong allegations and lies stop now a little bit

  • @Fleshshredder there is no lies here, there is no edited data here. you sound like an Dxtory fanboy and a Fraps hater..

I told you, I have 2 more test (or more) up in my sleeve, I just showed in this video that Dxtory fails vs Fraps when using HDD and a game that uses a lot of CPU/GPU/Ram resources..

I might also include Assassins Creed: Revelations because it uses more Resources that skyrim..

Your post just strengthen my hypothesis that Dxtory do better in Games that uses less resources

  • @mdnpascual I'm not a Fraps hater. I use Fraps sometimes too. For games which DXTory cant record. This is with NFS 4 the case because I use a Glide Wrapper & Fraps can record that. DXTory not.

How said: Both are good programs. I only hate some wrong allegations around youtube.

Your hypothesis sounds strange. I rather think that DXTory will especially then win, because you dont have that fps lock to a multiple of the recording fps with dxtory.

  • @mdnpascual So if I record with 30fps and I dont get over 60fps with that newer game, Fraps will hold me due to the multiple lock at 30fps.

With DXTory I can play then with for example 45fps because no fps multiple lock here.

Really intensive work for a video encoder is the game Arma 2. Especially if you walk through the detailed forest with lots of gras, bushes, trees etc.

x264 @ crf 21 (CRF is quality factor based encoding mode, not bitrate) - 14min video got over 4 GB.

  • @Fleshshredder are you using Fraps demo? I always set my frame lock to 120fps so It doesn't hold back in recording, and I did get 30+fps in the video w/ fraps,so idk what you're saying about multiple lock..

also I don't get why did you post x264 there. We are not talking about Re-encoding videos here

  • @mdnpascual The fps you set in Fraps is the recording fpsrate. The fps rate which you want to have the recorded video. Isnt that not rather heavy HDD load then? ;D

    I have bought fraps.

Again: If you set recording fps in fraps to 30, then you can get the following fps rates as play fps:30,60,90[...] So you would need that your pc can do more than 60fps while recording so that you get 60fps at game.

  • @mdnpascual I mentioned the x264 example to show you that video complexity has not so much to do with the graphic quality. NFS HP2 for example is more complex for a video encoder than some new games.

  • @mdnpascual over 4GB with CRF 21 and x264s internal preset slow.

Thats immense. Even the newest games dont get the video so huge.

  • @mdnpascual Oh and the HDD & CPU usage is in both programs very similar too..

Lagarith @ YV12 and Fraps @ YUY2 colorspace both have similar compression efficiency, so the usage of HDD & CPU is very similar.

  • @Fleshshredder HDD usage, NO, I think you didn't watch the video. fraps only used 30MBp/s+ on 1080p while Dxtory doubles that, that's why you get lower recording fps. and fraps Bitrate depends on the game you're playing. If the game is graphically beautiful, its will output a higher bitrate video, and vice versa. While DXtory uses almost the same Bitrate on all videos, because it doesn't use compression..

  • @mdnpascual You can choose the video codec in DXTory and you said you did it !

Lagarith USES compression and DOES very similar filesizes. Lagarith DOES the encode, not DXTory. DXTory just delivers the captured data to the encoder.

Also DXTorys own video codec offers an Compress option.

  • @Fleshshredder well that's the point, I used both COMPRESSED, but they both outputted higher bitrates than fraps. what does that mean? The compression is not yet optimized enough..

  • @mdnpascual You used DXTory Codec with compress? Or lagarith codec?

if DXTory Codec: Colorspace was set to 4:2:0 and not RGB? (Fraps uses 4:2:0 too if you dont have lossless RGB Capture enabled)

  • @Fleshshredder I haven't said it to the video but, there is 1 issue w/ DXtory. My Adobe Premiere (My videro editor) crashes when playing DXtory videos, it can read it but it can't play. The error code was pointing at DXtory codec so I needed to convert the video first before putting in Adobe premier. Ofc I reencoded it to handbrake so it doesn't lose quality even a bit.

  • @mdnpascual So you did in fact not use Lagarith, you did use DXTory Codec with no compression checkmarked?

Then its no wonder if you get lower FPS and double disk data

Handbrake uses x264. If you dont want to lose any quality you have to use quantisation encoding mode at factor 0.otherwise there is quality loss

If you've used directly the lagarith encoder with dxtory, you wouldnt have twice file size as fraps & not the fps problem

As lossy encode x264 is best. I prefer MeGUI though

  • @Fleshshredder I'm lost now, I don't know what you're talking about not using lagarith? and no compression checkmarked?

I think you didn't read properly, I both used Compressed, I didn't show the option w/ no compression since, the fps drops to a shame,

Also please don't talk about x264 and reencoding, we're getting out of topic here. I know how to encode videos without quality loss, don't included it in the discussion.

  • @mdnpascual But DXTory has the advantage that you can use more processing threads. Fraps uses only 2 and that how said the fps isnt locked to a multiple of the recording fps.

  • u should post your system specs...

  • I like Skyrim.
