@cominroitover80 Great! You're the only other person I've seen compare the two - I always thought there was a big parallel in their playing. Unshowy (but try playing it!), always musical & melodic, and able to rock-out in small doses when called-for. But always serving the song.
@LanceHelmut Yes, only with XTC, I've played this in my car about 75 times in the past 24 hrs. I'm grateful they were so prolific and matured so beautifully with each album...unlike their contemporaries. Genius rock, not pop..
This song really makes me cry... it's because of the beasts, the liers and the man breaking his wife's heart. I always loved how XTC put things simple even when monstruous, harsh (but true) words surrounded by the most creative music I've ever listened to.
@probrojeffro The west take note!! And this was written at a time when arabs were regarded in the west as fools, or at best Sandy Gall's passport to journalistic awards.
@charataxis0093 yeah dude, a few weeks ago i walked back home after smoking 2 bowls with this song on, holy fuck, that ending......that fucking ending.

It sounds even better when it's played for your first time by the love of your life..

is it possible for pop rock to be this sophisticated, clever and rythmically satisfying ?

English Settlement is XTC's finest album and belongs to a prestigious discography where "bad" albums are virtually absent!

Not much competition in 82. In fact everything else was pretty shite. Correct me if I'm wrong. This is still quality though.

"I was in a land where men force women to hide their facial features
And here in the West it's just the same, but they're using makeup veils.
I've seen acts of every shade of terrible come from man-like creatures.
And I've had the breath of liars blowing me offers in my sails."

When I used to smoke a lot I would put this record on. One of their best. This song especially "unravels" when you're listening to it properly.
