Very Weeeeeell!! i just love that! this song has a beautiful melody and it's captivating. Classic Stevie..what else can you say?!?!? he has created the soundtrack to LIFE!

Thank bro. Stevie for breathing on me with your breath of song.PEACE..StonieDog Stl. Great Post!!! : )
God this is such a poignant, heartbreaking song. He opened his heart to her - she had great visions and thoughts, ideas and dreams. Not unlike soooo many of us, perhaps she being more extravagant with hers.....to the degree it was hurting her. And for a long time, he hurt with her.......and then, FOR her in the end. He was so loving, but she was unreachable. And she was unable to see him, to realize he was an understanding soul, even as the connection fell away.
If I had to pic a favorite Stevie composition...this would be on the very short list! Been trying to learn the chord progression for guitar. It's bloody difficult!
i gotta thank my moms for having me stuck listening to Old skool classics while she cooked especially when rhythm review came on on sundays im only 21 and im into alot of hip hop but its hard 4 me to ignore old skool r&b and soul classics..like this!!
It is so hard for me to pick a favorite among this man's vast collection...but this two-in-one piece certainly ranks high on my list of his work. I remember Donnie Hathaway puttin' down a smooth live rendition of this song as well.
What a wonderful song beautifully decorated by the great (and very young and horrendously underrated) Buzz Feiten. We love you Buzz: and thank you and God bless you Stevie for all the great music.
Who remember before Michael Jackson cleaned up one night with a ton of Grammys, Stevie was the one of the first to clean up, I think he had 5 Grammys in one night. (Supersitition and Intervision Albums were huge sucess)
Yea Stevie paved the way for a lot of people. I thought he got like 7 or 8. He should have... lol. His anthology is unbelievable!!! I would love to own that!

But there is a version done by 4hero featuring a guy named Terry Devos that will leave you stunned and not believing that it wasn't Stevie singing! I was speechless...and insanely jealous that he sounds so much like my idol!
Special thanks to the person who posted this song i am 22 years old and i love the stevie wonder this man is a musical genius thought he is blind he sees into the soul of every man and woman and says what our soul wants to say you gotta love it
the flow of music and melody mix like smoke in the air As i first heard this piece and yet it is as beautiful today as ever and it still dances in my head the way it first did..... BRAVO
Mr.Wonder A true visionary, God has sent him to us to open our own eyes to look into our hearts. His words are like water, they flow into our souls. He speaks of our desires, as we strive to be whole. A blessing in the form of music he inspires us all. I love Stevie wonder until the days are no more.
I saw Stevie Wonder in 1975 at the Cow Palace in SF CA. It was my first concert - with Chaka Kahn & Rufus and I was thirteen at the time. It is still one of the top three concerts I've ever seen. There is nobody like Stevie! And this is one of the best songs ever.
very well, I believe I know you, very well ...wish that you knew me too...very wellllll.........but I think I can deal with everything going through ya head..... Come on now, That's Hot!!!!!
the second part of the song breaks my heart. it makes me think of how my husband treated me, but @ the same time reminds me why i should never go back. powerful song....
I have loved him from the time I was in 8th grade! My older sister use to play Stevie's 45's before school each morning! Signed, Sealed and Delivered. Then I feel in love again when I saw a friend of mine play this song on bass...only hearing the song 1 other time!!! Walker
OMG!!!!I was 11 years old when this song came out back in '72, and fell in love with it. Little did I know back then that the love affair with this song would still be going strong 36 years later. My older brother had it on vinyl and I practically wore the album out that summer. I've only heard this a handful of times since the 70's and I'm brought to tears each time I hear it(tears of joy). The power of music never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for the post and the good cry.

Fan, his observations of life in lyrics and
great songs made me open my mind to not only
good music but also to other cultures and many race issues from when I was the age of 11I thank him for that as it made me the more socially aware person I am today!
To do that through beautiful music in addition is truly special!
dread man you are some kind of jumbie or something what kind of negative shit you talking bout man! don't think those thoughts - or for heavens sake - lets all make sure that history gets it right the greatest musician, songwriter, composer that ever lived!
This song was a turning point for Stevie(at the ripe old age of 22!). He was able to finally shed the bubble gum sounds and start doing songs the way HE wanted to do them and not like the record labels wanted. Hi byrd1nypa. This is actually the great Buzz Feiten on guitar. He and Jeff Beck were the two guitarists Stevie liked to work with at this time. Buzz is as respected as Jeff in guitar circles, but nowhere near as well known by the masses. Well worth checking out all his output during this era, Full Moon, Rascals (Island of Real, Peaceful World), Paul Butterfield Blues Band (age 18 he replaced Elvin Bishop and Mike Bloomfied: that's him at Woodstock with Butterfield on the youtube footage).
since I was maybe 5 years old, Stevie Wonder has and continues to make a huge impact on me. No doubt, hes undeniably one of, if not the greatest musician/songwriter/composer of the past century. seriously his music is almost too much. im so pissed I missed seeing him at the Hollywood Bowl last month :(
Stevie Wonder has had such an enormous impact... As a child of the 90s, I've listened to countless music sampled from this genius. Iwas listening to this, and I hear a rift that Janet Jackson sampled for her album "Janet"
Not many musicians can feel it like this. That interlude at 3:04 changed my life back in 1972. Not many cats have that type of sensitivity in their playing or producing. They don't teach that in school or the bandstand.
A Classic!! my favorite Stevie slow jam..there will NEVER be a musician more talented than Steveland Morris..Thanks for posting this timeless jam, antiporcass!!
Stevie Wonder was the opening act for the Rolling Stones in July 1972, at Madison Square Garden, NYC.
That was where I first heard this song; Stevie was better than the Stones that night; and when I finally got the nerve to say that to some other people, they agreed!
I wonder how many others who were at the concert felt the same way but didn't say it...
I think I went into an actual trance just listening to this song now. I forgot where I was and my doorbell rang...I will now return to my regularly scheduled life.
Wow! ... I get so breathless listening to Stevie's music, my heart just connects with his.
Wondeful, timeless, and classic!!! - This is in my top 5 for Stevie's greatest hits! I rank this #2 for me. And some artists have done great renditions of this song but none of them compares to the ORIGINAL.
This album was Stevie's Declaration of Independence to Barry Gordy & Motown. When it came out in 1972 Stevie's contract was comimg to an end & he told Gordy that he was walking if he did'nt get creative, artistic & production control of his music. Gordy knew he would lose in this exchange so he gave in.
Thus the title; MUSIC OF MY MIND.Next came the very succesful the TALKING BOOK album, &
Janet Jackson also used a lil' part of this song on her "Janet" cd for her song "New Agenda" with Chuck D. It was a really kool song. This song gives me goosebumps everytime.
The way the two parts of the song segue together but are yet totally different is amazing. The first part is really organic and sounds like the decade it came out in. The second part sounds like it's ahead of its time, as if Stevie stepped out of the 70s and entered a time warp. It reminds me of looking at a surrealistic painting or a dream world conjured by the mind. And that's why this song still kicks after all these years, and will continue to.
Great description of part two! Also Stevie was going through a divorce at this time and it just added to the pain of missing the woman he loved so dearly!!

No doubt, hes undeniably one of, if not the greatest musician/songwriter/composer of the past century. seriously his music is almost too much. im so pissed I missed seeing him at the Hollywood Bowl last month :(
hopefully he comes around again.

Now this is REAL talent. Unlike the new-age hiphop producers of today who just sample. Tell me, what song did Stevie Wonder sample this tune from ?
mozart20dlubos 3 years ago 5
I agree! These days, musicians have no talent.
Stevie Wonder has had such an enormous impact... As a child of the 90s, I've listened to countless music sampled from this genius. Iwas listening to this, and I hear a rift that Janet Jackson sampled for her album "Janet"

wish i knew more cats[keys, in particular] who play this song. so i could sing it more often, and sing it, i can!
greatvoice23 3 years ago 3
Not many musicians can feel it like this. That interlude at 3:04 changed my life back in 1972. Not many cats have that type of sensitivity in their playing or producing. They don't teach that in school or the bandstand.

Wow!

Thus the title; MUSIC OF MY MIND.Next came the very succesful the TALKING BOOK album, &
the rest is history. He went from being
"Little Stevie Wonder" to "Music Icon".

Janet Jackson also used a lil' part of this song on her "Janet" cd for her song "New Agenda" with Chuck D. It was a really kool song. This song gives me goosebumps everytime.

I love Stevie Wonder he is a truly amazing artist. I wish I had the musical talent as he.
