  • cool, where did u buy it

  • uhm it looks way better and way sharper with the component cables. looks like shit with the upscaling.

  • there is no actual difference in my opinion, because there is no point either, wii output is still 480p :p

  • not to be mean but i dont if it was my computer or what but i saw better the component cables

  • whats the point the only difference is that the converter is upscaling rather than your tv, and then on top of that your tv may have to still upscale some

  • thanks for this comparison! I was not sure if it would really make a difference to use HDMI instead of 480p component cables in wii, but now I see that's worth

  • My only question is, when you look at it in person, does it remove the jaggies? From this video I can tell the colors are better but what about jaggies?

  • But I do have to admit, component may have darker colors. Anyone who's seen other HDMI vs. component videos know what I mean. YCbCr tends to be brighter than YPbPr. But darker doesn't mean richer. HDMI overall has superior color when upscaling Wii. Also, when playing games with a lot aliasing (i.e. Wii Sports) you can really see the upscaler at work. But is this upscaler worth buying? For the price, I'd say it is. But I am perfectly fine with my receiver.

  • There is an alternative to this HDMI upscaler. I have my Wii connected to my Sony STR-DH820 receiver, which upscales it to 1080p via HDMI by the use of Faroudja DCDI Edge processing. It looks a little smoother than it does when connected to my TV, because deinterlacing is going on.

So the reason why Component looks sharper in this video is because the upscaling process deinterlaces and smooths out rough edges. So in a way, it's like anti-aliasing.

  • I have a feeling that the Component looks sharper in this video

  • The best output you can get is 480p, even when you use hd cables

because the wii's output is 480p

  • Ignore the last comment

  • Kind of booting

  • on the press start screen the 480p looks as if it was 1080p and 1080p looks 480p.... WTF? but therest look better on 1080p

  • People, thumb this shit up so men can make decisions faster:

    Best on HD tv's:

    1. component cable

    2. hdmi converter cable

    3. composite cable

  • just use some sharpening in your TV settings = "upscale" you may get some more jaggies but VD W3 just blurs out stuff (ie a resample in Lanczos)

the VD W3 makes things too bright and oversaturated.

  • 480p looks better. But this is your only bet if all you own is a computer monitor.

  • Greetings Can i play all Games With Good quality? and does this makes anti-alising?like Dolphin Emulator does i play some games in 480p but with Good Quality. it's called 9xSSAA it improves the Game image you can find and test that on Dolphin emulator With super mario bros to see what I'm saying..it's better this way the console was made with standard definition it's no use to play it in HD the only thing that does is Removing the bad Risk that appears on the graphics that's all i want.

  • awesome

  • This device is a scam, looks like it just displays the regular composite cable definition. (480i)

Just look at 1:20... you can barely even see the stars in that "1080p"

  • @itsburgertimebitch Its recorded in 480p, but you can see the difference on the TV set (assuming your attempting to) Obviously not a scam.

  • @ThenamesLucifer Theeeeen why does it look worse than the 480p? If it was recorded in 480p wouldn't it at least look as good as the 480p?.....

  • @itsburgertimebitch You have to look at the small details (stars, shading, etc.) I got the 720p HDMI Wii one and Its making Wii graphics 10,000x's more bearable then my shitty 480i

  • @ThenamesLucifer @ThenamesLucifer Uhhhhh... What? In my first comment I said look at 1:20 and how you can see the stars less in the supposed 1080p than the 480p.....

Wii's regular display is 480i, with component it's 480p..... The 480p looks better than the supposed 1080 this crap device is claiming to deliver. (which if the wii was even capable of giving 1080p, nintendo would of created a device to give that just like the component cable.)

  • @ThenamesLucifer

Then you tell me, the 1080p quality was degraded because it was recorded in 480p, but if that was the case the 1080p picture would still be at least equal to the 480p. since it was recorded in that definition and all.

BUT ONCE AGAIN, LOOK AT 1:20. You can't even see stars in some spots on 1080, but you can in 480p....

    Holes, huuuuuge gaping holes.

  • @itsburgertimebitch Regardless if you can see it (Assuming your Graphics card in your computer can hold 1080p+) I got the 720p HDMI Cord and I only had to drop 10$ +5$ for shipping and the Wii looks soooooo much better. I can see the twinkling stars all over the screen just fine.

  • Great job. Thanks.

  • The funny thing is, judging by what I see in the video, the 480p signal looks better! Better contrast - less blooming of colours and more 'natural', don't know how else to describe it.

  • this doesnt work i have it and i still dont undertand what some of the buttons on the back of the switch stands for it can be confussing like it will ask what mode 1 or 2 i have no idea what it stands for and also when you connect it too your wii you get horrible sound

  • I really can't see the difference.... :(

Hopefully, Wii U will kick ass!

  • So dude, this device is better than Wii2HDMI?

  • @Rockmans1989 yes.

  • 480p better....

  • DUDE!! I have never HEARD OF THIS IN MY LIFE MAN, Thank you so much man, I'm so Gonna Buy this!! :'D

  • looks like Wii HDMI is out early now before Wii U is released next Year.

  • where i can buy this?i lived in asia

  • is it worth it?

  • the video is in 360p, 480p, if the difference componenent wii 480p vs 1080p hdmi upcaling, is not working to see because the video would have to be in 1080p, but the video is recorded in 480p

  • Ok i had/have a problem. I have an hdtv. I had both the ps3 and wii connected to it through composite cables. The problem was whenever it played either console, the timing was off. What i mean by that is that there was a 2 second delay on the screen whenever i pressed a button. I bought an hdmi for the ps3 and i no longer had any sort of delay on the screen. Will buying a vdigi vd-w3 get rid of any delay i have whenever im playing on the wii?? Do you experience any lag/delay with vdigi vd-w3?

  • theres no point in getting this. i bought a wii becuase of the games, wii delivers amazing games without the best graphics or online play that proves that nintendo still puts love in their games and consoles

  • Absolutely no difference.

Wii is still 480P. This cannot be changed.

What this thing does is scale the image insted of the tv.

It makes it fit on a HD screen.

If the image would not be scaled, you would get a small 480 square.

Only handy if you TV has bad scaling.

  • @Hielkenator it has..then why xbox360 now display 1080p?

  • @Ninchiboy You don't get it do you?

The signal is 1080p, the resolution is NOT. This is called scaling. ALL lcd and plasma tv do it.

Some scale better than others If you tv scales badly/ slowly, this diveice would be a nice option.

It will not improve the image .

  • @Hielkenator then why you buy this if image wont improve...i ask you one question..xbox360 doesnt comes with HD right?but how come there upscaling is more than better than ps3?

  • @Ninchiboy You would buy it if you don't have any componenet inputs on your tv.

Ot if you want to use the HDMI interface ( less clutter )

If you update your Xbox, 1080p is enabled for some games.

This device is an External upscaler. It's handy if you want to use the low res images with a line doubler/ scanline generator.

The original signal is'nt altered. This is ther reason you would buy such a thing.

Also if you would want to use the console on your pc monitor this could reduce lag,.

  • can you do this video with one call of duty?????????

  • This just goes to show how utterly stupid and backwards-ass like fuck Nintendo was for NOT including an HDMI output on the Wii.

At the very least, they should have gave us a VGA output or something.

Like how difficult or expensive would that have been?

  • You can get Wii to HDMI at 1080P Now, just search "ViewHD Wii" on Amazon. Easier, Cheaper, and BETTER!

  • You can get Wii to HDMI at 1080P Now, just search "ViewHD Wii" on Amazon. Easier, Cheaper, and BETTER!

  • Check out HDMIKey, basically an upscaler like this that doesn't need a USB port and is cheaper, coming out soon.

  • Is it still pixelated on your 1080p tv or is it more smoothened out

  • that slows the game or overheat the console?

  • Fuck is been 3 weeks since I order this Item, and I get this notice.

Destination - United States of America

The item (RB0970421253hK) will leave Hong Kong for its destination on 27-Mar-2011 WTF??? {THEY SAID ON THE WEBSITE THEY GOT LIKE 70 ON STUCK WHEN I ORDER AND NOW THEY HAVE 65 IT'S BEEN ALMOST 4 WEEKS , WTF??? ARE THIS GUYS ARE GONNA WALK TO MY PLACE FROM HK???

  • Hate the fact that i've to waste one of the usb ports for turning the device on!

  • this product is oficial of nintendo????

  • someone help, do any of you play wii on a pc monitor with this upscaler, and do you get black bar and left and right side of the screen? i dont know why mine is like that, i wanted full screen

  • im using this upscaler on my pc monitor but i dont get full screen, theres black bar on left and right side of the screen, is it because the monitor is not 6:9 wide

  • so really are we going to get the clarity of hd with this? as with an obvious simplified graphics compared to the other hd systems is what im wondering

  • so basically this is like upscaling a dvd whereas before, with component only high end hd tvs trully upscale the picture (i'm assuming)

  • sry but i cant see so much difference i see component is better sry

  • The WD-V3 takes the video output from the WI and upscales it at the DIGITAL level. It's not going to make a dazzling high-definition picture like Xbox 360 or PS3, but it does make subtle enhancements to the picture. Text is sharper, colors more vivid, and, black level is deeper. A few months ago, 480i games like Mega Man 9 used to look very blurry through the upscaler, but they must have released some firmware upgrade for it recently, because the game has much sharper graphics now

  • With HDMI, the audio and video signal is digital. The only major concern for signal degradation in HDMI is distance. After 25 ft, there is slight chance that you will notice "sparkles." But for anything less, such as 6 foot lengths that most people need, any generic HDMI from ebay will do. "Performance HDMI" for 60 bucks from Monster, that they push on you at Best Buy, is such a con. There is no difference. Gauge isn't a concern, either. I like Bluejeanscable (dot com) Good cable, good prices.

  • ...Component video (often mistaken for COMPOSITE or "RCA" video) has one wire for brightness, and two for color difference signals Pb, and Pr (Primary Blue, Primary Red.) On component vs. S-video, you will notice much better color, with less smearing with component video. Also, component video can pass 480p-1080i, whereas s-video and composite can only do up to 480i. So on , say, a 50 inch Plasma HDTV, S-video or composite from the wii will look much worse (blurry, washed out, "jaggies" etc.

  • BTW, if you turn down the sharpness on your TV when the WII component video is in, it will make the pic much smoother, and almost "upscaled" looking. LOL

  • .(cont) and changes the AV output from the Wii into HDMI. I needed it when my comp. input on my TV stopped working For me, the sound through HDMI sounded more powerful and bassy than through the 3.5 mm (1/8 in) analog audio output. But the sound cut out through HDMI before long, so I was forced to use analog and switch to DVI setting. The colours are more vivid than with component or VGA, and there is an enhance mode that makes them extremely vivid, at least on my TV.

  • can you connect it to any of both usb ports and does it lag at all

  • thanks;)

  • @hattrick4nintendo how did u get it hd ??

  • All this is really gonna do is make the picture look as good as VGA.After all the Wii can only do standard VGA resolution which is 480p.

  • @JAREDMICHALLE Do you know what upscaling does and how it works?

  • @TheUnbiasedGamer You should just get the new Yamaha RX-V667. It upscales quite well, and you can switch HDMI inputs when the unit is off.Denon AVR 1911, aka 791 has ABT chip. This VD-w3 works quite well. There re a lot of cynical, unobservant people reviewing the upcaler that says it's not worth it, worse than component video etc. it's not going to make a perfect HD pic at that price, but it does smooth out the graphics for biggers TV (like my 52-inch sony TV) and changes...

  • @johnnyponny4 Thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • @TheUnbiasedGamer Yes I know what upscaling is and how it works. It lets you go higher than the resolutions normally available. But I didn't notice a diference in the character models, something you would normally see right away.

  • @JAREDMICHALLE I noticed a difference from composite to component and even s-video which most people say they don't notice. If you don't notice it then i guess it's not worth it. Some people don't at all. I definitely do. Anyways have a nice day. :)

  • @TheUnbiasedGamer Well actually once looked at the video for New Super Mario Brothers Wii,then I noticed a difference.Maybe it was just this particular video.I looked at few other videos, and I noticed how the color temperature looked way better, and the overall picture looked smoother.

  • @TheUnbiasedGamer There is def a noticeable difference between composite video and s-video. Composite video lumps the color and brightness into one wire. S-video goes a step further with two lines, one carrying the brightness (luminance) and the other that carries the color (chrominance). It depends on your TV. With an older flatscreen CRT, I could tell a difference between an AR Master Series S-video cable (better color, sharper pic, and better black level) than a generic s-video cable.

  • @johnnyponny4 Yeah i just got a vga converter/ upscaler today and i used s-video for my input on my Dreamcast and it converts it to progressive scan and it looks great. Too bad it won't except the Vga or it would be amazing. My tv won't take the resolution from my DC with the VGA box.The wii looks awesome upscaled to HD with composite cables though. Especially the Gamecube games as well!

  • @TheUnbiasedGamer How can you get composite video "upscaled to HD" What is the make of the converter?

  • @johnnyponny4 The one i have was only $30. and it's called the mygica HD gamebox. It's not the best and it outputs through vga. if you are only looking to upscale your wii I would stick to this one and grab some component cables.

  • can you please make a monster hunter tri video using your VD W3 so i know if it really help the image on a 1080 hd lcd tv. before i order 1 thanks!

  • Wow the colors are so much richer, but I have a feeling that's due to your TV and not the Component cables. For example, VGA (basically component) and HDMI look nearly identical on my high-end S-IPS panel.

  • btw could you imagine how conduit 2 will look like if using this hdmi device

  • Looked and sounded shitty at first, then I saw princess peach and the graphics looked badass.

  • So my question is what products better

The wii 2hdmi or this ?

  • theres hd component cables at gamestop for the wii for 15$ is this thing better quality than that? cuz i duno 60$ sounds like alot.

  • this review needs to be re-shot with actual 1080p quality to see the difference from 480p to 1080p, cause only being able to view this vid. in 480p reduces the resolution and smoothness of the 1080p down to 480p at most. other than that, this was a pretty good review.

  • So just to make sure, this transmit sound also through hdmi correct?

  • @dashyt2dafulliz Yes. It does audio through HDMI.

  • Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm going to try and get more gameplay recorded (possibly with an HD camera this time) soon. I have my hands full with other WiiNintendo things right now. Sorry.

  • @hattrick4nintendo im looking forward to it because a hd camera displays it much better

  • are thoes two really on teh same tv, im getting this for Christmas!! £40 on Amazon

  • @SOUTHWESTENZ Yes.

  • @SOUTHWESTENZ its bad ass man, i knew they would have something like this one day , now we can enjoy mario galaxy 2 and other games like zelda in more detail , i have to say it is closest to being HD , im stunn man

  • @DarkSkysify new new tv displays standard def pretty bad, cant wait to get this!

  • Do this up-scaling apply to virtual games?

  • @connorcjt12 i think so,i dont have these but i have similar plugs that put my wii in HQ and VC games dont even work! (except N64 games)

  • can u test this on conduit pls its the best looking wi game

  • If you wanted HD you should have gotten an Xbox or a Playstation.

  • @haymaker710 try playing super smash brother brawl on an xbox or ps3

  • @bvjorge Try playing some grown-up games like Red Dead Redemption or Assassin's Creed on a Wii.

  • @haymaker710 if i wanted to play those games i probably get a ps3 but i don't so i'll stick with my wii

  • is this for PAL Wii or NTSC?

  • @stv497

You get the "stupid reward" for today.

  • @x2ruff4u and you get the useless reward for today

PS:I know i'm late but I had to do so

  • they should make a wii with this built in and call it WII HD

  • omg looks so much better, thanks for the video dude :B

  • looks great! I'm gonna get it

  • where can i get these

  • @coolravi2 That information is in the video description.

  • Where can I get one and how much will one cost?

  • The sound is better, the picture looks sharper, more colour. the price is cheap. might get it.

  • @26deano26 If you do, please use my affiliate link in the video description.

  • @26deano26 does the usb need to go into the bottom port in back of wii?

  • is there any lag?

  • @SilentMystification Not that I can tell.

  • Wat do u need to set up your woo in HD I have a wii but I wanna play in HD

  • @coolravi2 You need the VDIGI VD-W3 product. It does not put it in full HD, but it creates a better picture, and it allows you to connect your Wii via HDMI cable.

  • Does the HDMI cable come with the New Black Wii? The reason I ask is because I will be getting one in two weeks.

  • @zenmart No, it does not. This is a 3rd-party cable. If you want to purchase one, you can click the link in the description.

  • @zenmart The Wii doesn't normally use HDMI. That's the whole point of the device being shown in this video.

  • Do you get all this stuff if you buy an LCD screen with hdmi plugin?

  • @zer0gam3r No, this is from VDIGI, bought separately. The link is in the description.

  • Is the screen sharper with hdmi upscaler or component

  • @totizedger In terms of sharpness, it's about the same. The colors are deeper and smoother with the HDMI, though. Check out my full review for more info.

  • I wonder why the colors look so much more vibrant on the HDMI than Component? All it's doing is CONVERTING the Component to HDMI, the color quality should still at least be the same! Weird.

  • @FeeLtheHertZ its because its also upscalling the video signal, u can choose whether you're upscalling it in 480p 720p 1080i or 1080p. its not real HD but upscalled signal does look better than original signal.

  • wait a min. can i hook up my wii to the TV with this HDMI cable?

  • @ImAGuy21 Yes, that's exactly what this is for.

  • the 480p looks clearer than 1080p

  • i personaly think tht was always the problem with the wii it was always the resolution of the screen it makes a big difference think tht was perfect compared to my component cable i decided to buy one and see the difference and it was so much clearer so cant wait see this

  • wow that looks like the same theres absolutely no point in buying this. i mean it would look great on a smaller screen but for those with 40inch and up theres no need for it. it actually made it look worse in my opinion.

  • @daihanviet I recommend taking a class in Analyzing Details 101. There is an improvement. Though it may be small, the jaggies are softened a bit - I can see that hattrick's video here.

  • This device seems pretty cool for converting the Wii for HDMI, but does it reduce or eliminate LCD TV lag?

  • Honestly I can't see a damn difference resolution or sharpness-wise. All I see is a slight color variation.

  • @Dooality me too!! is the same!!! just play!!

  • id go with the composite...not too much of a difference, just some shits more smooth, no sharpness increase, just colour depth. if your a rich ass, knock yourself out, if your poor like myself and need every dime, get yourself a component.

  • noooooooo dont buy this piece of shit

  • @bionicblazer1 hahahahha ok

  • if you ask me i think its worthevery last dime. this thing rocks its the hugest difference in quality. im buying one today thanks for the review and the videos.

  • @ilovemaryam08 You're very welcome! If you haven't purchased it yet, please use our affiliate program (same price as going straight to them).

  • Please check out my full review and the link to purchase a unit in the video description.

  • the colours are a lot better at 1080p

  • i really don't care about improving quality but does this cable make the wii look the way it originally should on a hdtv without the distortion, fuzzy images, and jagged edges. If it takes away all that then im buying it. I would really appreciate if someone can answer this question...Thanks in advance.

  • @bionicblazer1 It doesnt take away the jaggies

  • @ray13j but does it still look at least okay on a lcdtv

  • Pity that the upscaler doesn't use filtering... Even a primitive filter like bilinear or bicubic would have made the difference... Not anti-aliasing, but still good

  • Can I give you a suggestion: can you compare it with the Dolphin emu rather than Wii component cable? If you have lcd monitor you can connect them both and take some pics with fraps for comparison. Thanks!

  • @deszaras3 I don't have the dolphin emulator, and it is kind of illegal anyhow. Please check out my full review and the link to purchase a unit in the video description.

  • wow I think I might just get this down the road@_@ when I get a wii. the colors are amazing

  • @crazyguy34 Please check out my full review and the link to purchase a unit in the video description.

  • can u guyz help me out

i pluged it in and it worked i guezz and tested it on mw reflex and it didnt seem like it worked

so i disconnected it and i plugged it back in and it showz nothing itz juzt black but i can hear the wii menu sound so if anybody can help me please asap?

oh and the first time it worked i didnt press the reset button so??

  • @PrincessWhore666 i think i have seen this problem before watch you gotta do is go to settings then go to screen resolution and change it from 480i to 480p hope it workd for ya :P

  • @PrincessWhore666 Hit the reset button on the bottom of the unit.

  • Comment removed

  • Games that would look good in 1080p ideas that you haven't recorded: Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Metroid Prime, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles, Resident Evil 4, Red steel 2, mario kart wii and Monster Hunter Tri when it comes out.

  • @Johonywuzhere I've got footage of The Conduit and Monster Hunter Tri. I just have to edit it still. I'll try and hurry. Until then, please check out my full review and the link to purchase a unit in the video description.

  • at the end still a good HDMI apator if you dont have enough component connections...

  • So should i buy VD-W3???? let me know 1 thumb up or 2 thumbs up. thanks for making this video.

  • @ilovemaryam08 Please check out my full review and the link to purchase a unit in the video description.

  • @hattrick4nintendo ............. do you have to use a certian usb plug on the wii??? cuz i have a usb hard drive that needs the 0 plug???

  • @ilovemaryam08 Nope. You can use any USB plug to power the unit.

  • Showing the difference between 480p and 1080p with a 480p video. PROBABLY NOT THE BEST IDEA EVER.

  • @nekojin42 To tell you the truth, it's even worse than 480p video, but if you can't tell a difference, (using caps back at ya) YOU CANNOT SEE WELL. But for those who are sooo picky, expect some captured HD footage soon (straight from VDIGI, since I don't have any way of capturing HD footage myself).

  • Can you please tell me how long did it took for you to receive it from Hong Kong?

  • @ray13j about a week

  • Test Call of duty modern warfare reflex if u have it i wanna see it

  • @zejineji I don't have it. Sorry. I do have footage of The Conduit and Monster Hunter Tri. I just have to edit it still. I'll try and hurry. Until then, please check out my full review and the link to purchase a unit in the video description.

  • How long did it took for you to arrive?

  • You should try testing a game like Resident Evil 4 Wii edition, if you own it. You can also test many Gamecube games to see how well they upscale. =D

  • @kanecobond I do not own RE4. However, I am planning on doing more tests as soon as my other unit comes in (first one had sound issues). I'll be sure to posts some tests on GameCube games too.
