i agree with everything she says, but the fact of the matter is that being truly organic is extremely hard....

there's not many grants or government subsidies for organic farmers and to tell you the truth most of them barely make ends meet

people need to take action themselves and lobby their government officials to change current legislation to become more organic friendly, not agribusiness organic, but small local farmer organic

I have to agree, I am studying science at University and I have a Grandfather who has spent his life farming organically before the word was even in use, he is the greatest scientist, philosopher and steward I know and he has learnt not through formal institutions, reductive reasoning or prescribed texts, but instead through living on the land. I am going home to plant seeds while the sun still shines! Thanks for putting this video up. Shiva is an inspiration.

We need policies in the US farm bill, in the commodity title. She did not mention this when speaking at the MOSES organic conference, as keynote, but i asked her if she knew about it. She did. She understood the need for the policies of NFFC's Food from Family Farms Act: Price Floors and Supply management, to raise world farm income and increase diversity (corn not so cheap), Price Ceilings and Reserve Supplies for when there's a shortage & price spike. Dr. Shiva never ceases to impress me with her elegant tact and precision in delivering her message.

One extremely important issue she focused on, the miracle of the seed, really meant a lot to me. At the moment we have myopia. We only see the potential profits of mass producing what took nature hundreds of thousands, if not millions of years to perfect. As Dr. Shiva mentioned, this mass production without understanding could very well cause the collapse of our livelihoods.

Wow - this entire interview is spot on, but this third segment is best of all. Comparing the collapse of 'fictional finance' to the collapse of 'fictional food' is perfect. And I also really like the idea of finding hope in the great leap toward chaos getting people's attention much better than a gradual reduction in real food.
