Sarah Brightman is a true soprano, not a screamer. I also agree Aled Jones' version is a really good one too. A lot of people seem to think that being a good singer is all about how high you can go. It's how well you sing, not how high you can get. If you can't hit high notes without screaming you should aim for a lower register.

World class singers do not need to scream to reach high notes. Everyone wants to copy Mariah Carey for some obscure reason. She crucifies everything she sings because she never sings a straight note. This is not good singing. Even the younger singers of seven and eight years old are copying this style of singing(I use the term singing loosely). I don't care if David Archuleta idolizes Regine Velasquez. I couldn't stand to listen to her screaming out O Holy Night.
Why can these so called singers not sing a straight note these days. This is meant to be a spiritual, peaceful, beautiful piece of music. A good singer does not need to scream to hit high notes like this one does. It ruined it for me. I had to turn it off because it hurt my ears. Other than that I love this song but prefer to listen to it the way it's supposed to sound, not as an exercise for vocal gymnastics.

@TheJackannmarie Totally agree. Sarah Brightman hits the high notes softly and doesn't pierce your eardrums with her screaming like Regine Valasquez. Sarah Brightman is a true soprano, not a screamer. I also agree Aled Jones' version is a really good one too. A lot of people seem to think that being a good singer is all about how high you can go. It's how well you sing, not how high you can get. If you can't hit high notes without screaming you should aim for a lower register.

If you want some one to listen too that sings "O Holy Night" you should listen to Aled Jones you will find no one can do it better then him. Aled Jones was a boy soprano at that time and I can not get enough of his voice.

World class singers do not need to scream to reach high notes. Everyone wants to copy Mariah Carey for some obscure reason. She crucifies everything she sings because she never sings a straight note. This is not good singing. Even the younger singers of seven and eight years old are copying this style of singing(I use the term singing loosely). I don't care if David Archuleta idolizes Regine Velasquez. I couldn't stand to listen to her screaming out O Holy Night.

Why can these so called singers not sing a straight note these days. This is meant to be a spiritual, peaceful, beautiful piece of music. A good singer does not need to scream to hit high notes like this one does. It ruined it for me. I had to turn it off because it hurt my ears. Other than that I love this song but prefer to listen to it the way it's supposed to sound, not as an exercise for vocal gymnastics.

To focus on vocal technique is to ignore a simply incredible natural gift. there are many vocalist that perform this classic like Angela Brown and Denyce Graves in a traditional vocal setting. this is not the intent of the performance by Velasquez.
