hey, fool, you DON'T live in VA..call a few days of 100 degrees hot?????? try all summer, every summer, no need for exaggeration. You get what you sign up for and I can GUARANTEE you nobody is going to quit coming to events like these...so, why don't you go send a letter to pwc explaining how you want warm water at events. thanks bye
If I were in charge, all Confederates would get ice, cold water, fresh food and shade, all Bluebellies would receive barbecue grills, stale food, all trees around them would be cut, and no tents or water. Progress the flag of Dixie [X].
nonononono you left the reeantment because you guys didnt get to fight a lot we were right in the action the frist day so suck it you left becasue you didnt fight a lot
@MrCivilwarlogan im so ashamed that i'll never get to be in a reenactment ever again, would u like an award for getting to be part of one? not why we left
Two people from my company had to go to the hospital because of not being properly hydrated. One of them went to the first aid tent at the event and lost a forage cap, frock coat, stainless steel canteen, and gaitors.

i was a confederate reenactor at the 150th Manassas. and it was hot but did 2 people really die. i mean the first night i woke up to someone throwing up but that was from the heat and he was fine. they just took him home and someone else woke up with a snake in is bed and started screaming so loud but how come no one told me that someone died?
@Skatingboy13 Nobody died. He just made that up. The man who was throwing up was in my unit (15th VA aka 4th AL) . He was taken to the hospital just to be on the safe side, but he's fine now. This guy making the video doesn't know what he's talking about.
@SamuelDMorgan hey you were in the 4th Alabama. cool same here. I'm also in the 15 Virginia. Larry Nordvick if thats how you spell it is our captain. My name is Alex Farrell. I just joined up. I was at the hanover tavern for the flag opening and the reenactment. that was my first one to.
in addition: there were numerous paramedics, brigade and unit officers insisting everyone DRINK WATER.. checking to make sure all had water.. PERHAPS YOUR BRIGADE COMMANDERS are incompetent in this.. WHICH I seriously doubt. THere were numerous women with walking behind all of the lines with buckets of ice and bottles of water all day long.... SO YOU need to post another video apologizing for being a spolied little obnoxious whiny liar.
@musicbythemaster im sorry do you think you know it all? you CLEARLY are a godlike creature able to see the entire battlefield and know where each unit is and able to prove water was given properly to everyone. That's like saying all the slaves were treated with excellent care by their owners, or that they were treated like crap by their owners, they should not be whining
@musicbythemaster were you where we were? that you are an authority? or anyone else to say what we experienced or not? Im sure holocaust survivors would love for you to tell them what it was like to be in a concentration camp
im from New York, by the city, would u like to tell me what happened on 9/11
you are unAmerican, and a disgrace to us all if you still think u are right
I have no idea where you were or your unit, but you are full of crap.. and should be ashamed of yourself for spreading such garbage... GO LOOK at the videos to see the enormous pallets of bags of ice and bottles of waters all over the battlefields.. IF YOU or your units weren't properly equiped with water that is your own stupidity. THere were huge water trucks spread out at the Union encampments which is where all of our units got their water. AND anyone could go into the cooling tents
Sadly I could not make it however I wish I could have.
Now guys all events are different for each person. From the sound of it his unit got the short end of the stick. I've been in his shoes before and I'm sure many of y'all have had events were one person said it was great while you say it sucked the sweat off an old mans balls. It just depends on fate.
Now for you no shoe wearing, hard tack munching, hard cores contrary to your briefs y'all do not rule the reenacting roost so quit criticiz
You shouldn't even be worried about a damn cooling area, its 1861 your at a battle not in garrison and im guessing your a private. judging from your misinformation you probably brought a damn wall tent to sleep in. if your going to reenact atleast do it right and dont tell me federals always used tents either im a federal and i use a double bag with a bedroll so i have no cooling tent, if you do a little more research instead of complaining maybe you would know how to keep cool authentically
There was water available all across the camps. Did your company send any for water with the canteens? I fell out because of heat exhaustion, my colonel made us constantly check on our water. I spent quite a bit of time in one of the cooling tents with no problems there. Sorry you had a bad time. The delivery of ice was problematic, but they did seem to get it together. No deaths.
Take your gripes off the Internet fool. It's obvious that you suck at life and can't drink water and buy the ice off the countless number of ice wagons that were running around. This is why us Southerners fought you Yankee Bastards in the first place. Y'all are pussy's! Go home and stay home, and get that Blue Pill out of your ass.
@IamFuzzyBear lol i agree with you to a point lol but i am a true yankee but raised in georgia since i was 8 not all of us yankees are pussies like this guy.
I participated in the Reenactment and live in Centreville, Virginia. There were NO (read ZERO) deaths to any reenactors. We were well supplied with ice and water. I believe you are a victim of rumors.
Waah! Big baby. I have never been to a national event where we were treated this good. There was more water than we could drink. If your food is spoiling, then you brought the wrong food. There were bags of ice all over which was spread out to everyone. If you rode the busses, they gave away water to spectators. Nothing you have said is true. Quit whining, get out of the hobbyand go back to playing video games in your parents basement
I'm going to miss the 150th Gettysburg monster, due to me being in Afghanistan.. Unless I can schedule R&R around that time. Anyone doing the 150th Shiloh? I think that's the one I'll be able to make before deployment.
Obviously you have never spent a summer down south, yes, it is record heat waves, but nothing new in the south! You should have been hydrating well before the event, which is an issue the hobby has always faced. I don't remember a summer event where you didn't hear of some sort of heat casualty. Never saw any news on deaths regarding the event. I've been re-enacting 20 years, grew up in this damn hobby, get your facts straight! Or hang up the hat pal!
@redblackdevil It's people like you who give every single reenactor a bad name. Why would you want people out of the hobby you biased bastard? If people love history so much that they're willing to pay huge amounts of money to portray it you should be happy with them, not scornful. You people who hate anyone who's not like you are the reason so many reenactors are leaving the hobby. I hope you're happy with yourself, dickhead.
@HistoryCornbreadLove lmfao, i will take it as a badge of honor that i got under your skin you farb lover. trust me i know this kids unit and none of them pay huge amounts of money for their kits, they look like the bargain bin from the worst of sutler row puked them up and they dont give a rats ass. aside from their kits they have no heart, no tolerance for the discomfort of soldiering and put out ridiculous videos that do nothing for the hobbys legitimacy, so who fuckin died at manassas?
@redblackdevil cant tell me can you? and neither can this pussy, because it did not happen. you sympathize with this little shit? you are probably in his unit. he earned his infamy by shooting his mouth off on youtube. dont want to be criticized? dont step into the spotlight and act like you are on an urgent mission to save the hobby from *gasp!* deadly organizers.
@redblackdevil so go to college, get a job, and maybe be something in the future instead of thinking the past is all that there is, you need to stop being an internet troll btw google 154 treated for heat at manassas ; thats after the first day...ur proof
@redblackdevil you want to know who google it, i only saw one guy die, maybe someone else saw the other and the horse...you give reenactors a terrible name, i try and show that normal people actually participate you just make it seem like its an elite society
listen you sissy, i did the 125th anniversary reenactment and back then THERE WAS NO WATER ! PERIOD!! Dont sit there and spout shit, you sound like a fucking farb. The points you brought up have been in CW reenacting for 30 years and longer. Dont do megaevents!!! They always turn into farbfests and disasters!!
@bmartin983 I bet you didn't even do the parade on Friday, a mile and half to the bus, and 2.5 mile parade, and a mile walk back to camp, i went hardcore this weekend, and im just speaking on behalf of the people around because i saw all the incidents happen
Thank you for posting this. I am currently writing an article debunking everything you said in your video. You're ridiculous, and this video was a joke. I'll post the link later on for those of you who want to read my thoughts about this awesome video.
needless to say without postings sources and just saying we all know its true we can deduce that this is in fact a farb. I'm sorry your uniform wasn't air conditioned i'm sorry you had to endure the same heat they did and guess what no air conditioned tents for them so heat causalities actually happened back then. And Yeah if you take a mans ice without paying that's theft which is a crime. Sorry you came unprepared and aren't willing to take their pains into your perspective.
Ok, yes, the treatment of re-enactors was sub-par, I will agree. The issue of ICE not getting to the confederate camp was corrected when my sgt major sent word up to the top stating that. It turns out that b/c the CSA camp was in the back, the ice was getting bought up by the union, which is the event fault, not the federals. The "Police Escort" was so that the ice COULD get through, so stop your bitching.
Also, no deaths, and I didnt see anyone turned away from cooling tents.
You would think that you could supply yourself with water...Our guys took a full canteen and an extra 3 bottles of water in their haversacks. My son was not old enough to carry arms on the field, so he was designated as water boy and carried an extra 3 haversacks full of bottled water for anyone who needed it. He always came back with almost as much as he left with. Our guys went out in FULL uniforms with bed rolls, (one of the only Confederate units to do so) and came back with no problem.
It was bad by 4th AL but our officers told us to bring water since we were so far away. EMTs were constantly running around the camp. I agree that PW Co was there to make money and that there were a lot of weird aspects to this event. BUT, they were prepaired. It sounds like your officers did not prepair you or you yourself were not prepaired by hydrating yourself before the event. Sure it was hot, I left early because I was feeling sick myself but I still had a good time.
Dude, NO one died. I was Running as a Lt. Col. this past weekend, and those were just rumors. Only issue with this event is the battles. The treatment was okay on our end as far as Water, Bathrooms. But other than that, the treatment of the reenatcors was horrible. We were viewed as cattle. Worst Event Ever.
The event was poorly organized, but...it was not that bad. yes, the ice was not brought around enough. but, if you get up off your butt and go get it, that wasn't a problem...there was plenty of water and ice! I can't handle the heat at all, but I used my head, drank plenty of water and gatorade..which we brought along!! we knew it was going to be hot...and we were prepared . and if we needed it...we went and got it. and nobody died..they took great care of people and saved many lives!!!!
not 2 deaths, i heard of one. which was not even definate. 6. if you write an article, im gonna print it out and shit on it and mail it to you. give me your address. 7. finally, you had to buy a new uniform? please help the rest of the hobby and dont buy anything more. if your going to bitch about being authentic when portraying an actual unit then dont portray that unit. dont give regimental quartermaster or general custards shitty sutler any more dollars so you can flood the hobby
dude are you retarded? you gotta be some farb shithead. 1. when is ice ever free, ive been reenacting for 15 years and not once was given free ice at a mega event. 2. the event staff was 100% on their game when it came to water. there were stacks of water all over the field. 3. you didnt have to walk a mile and half for water. 4. DONT BE A FARB AND GET AUTHENTIC CIVIL WAR RATIONS AND YOUR FARB FOOD WONT GO BAD. 5. There was plenty of shade, and we were in the vip tent multiple times 6. there wer
@Carricktor - Are you serious? How is what I said giving reenactors "a bad name"? Bashing an event that YOU decided to go to and then making a video about it is viewed as "ok"? I basically said the event staff was great. I can't believe you thought I was bashing the event, when in reality I was holding up all of the positives for this kid to see.
@KeV83 the event, was great on the reencators part, and poor on the staff part, you clearly had a different experience because at the event ice was not delivered for 5 hours and people were passing out left and right from it, a riot occured and they needed police, this is something very serious...everyone needs to step out of the uniform, and look at the event from a present human being stand point
@Carricktor bullshit, that police escort he is whining about was there to make shure the ice got up to you guys, from what you say your guys got caught trying to steal someones ice, that is illegal plain and simple. i dont give a damn that your farb ass food was spoiling, i ate unperishible food out of my haversack all weekend and got along just fine boo hoo for your lazy unprepared unit.
@Carricktor show me one news article that backs that contention up, you cannot..BECAUSE NO ONE FUCKING DIED YOU STUPID KIDS! NOT EVEN A GOD DAMNED HORSE!
@redblackdevil I WAS THERE! I SAW IT HAPPEN if you cared you wouldn't want reenacting or poor ole prince will county getting a bad name for 2 people dying, go get an education
@Carricktor you are so completely full of shit, if anyone died the whole damn hobby would know about it. it would have been front page news, i have seen multiple news reports that confirm no deaths.PERIOD. a couple horses were slightly injured, NOT KILLED BY HEAT STROKE. if you saw someone keel over and die then you would also be able to point out what unit they were with, their pards would be in mourning and the hobby would be abuzz with memorializing said vacent chairs, but since its not
and you get an education you farb ass larper. LEARN how to make it through an event without throwing a hissy fit and leaving because your mangina got chaffed by your farb ass kit. this was a real war we portray that men suffered and died in, not a first person shooter game. you have zero dedication to doing anything right, did not properly prepare and got all the misery you deserved punk. im suprised you havent bitched about the lack of vallet parking.
if your guys could not hack it at an event with such good safety logistics you would never have survived the 135ths. i have horror show event stories, you havent been to a fucked up event. my guys did a hardcore event without fucking water because wagons never got to us, which meant procure on site from creeks and streams or die, thats a legitimate bitch...waah waaah i have no ice cubes im gonna die! guys who have experienced way worse shit than you listen to this and think you're lazy punks.
I think this event from the eyes of the re-eanctor all depends on where they were told to set up camp. The folks in the front had cooler water to drink. Us way in the very back had hot water to drink. The hot water brought out the chemicals in the water that the board of health made them put in it. People were getting sick drinking it. Just to walk to the closest water station was 3/4 mile all for hot water.
I cannot believe all of the hate comments that I see coming from this video. Stop. You are all giving reenactors a bad name just being haters. Everyone who does it loves history and does it for a reason. If you don't have something nice to say don't say it. There is nothing wrong with this video. Everything said is true. The event was biased depending on what location you were located, and the problem is the event was too large to manage. End of story.
This is very true. Hopefully the future 150th events are better planned. While history should be properly recognized, the health of the reenactors who VOLUNTEER should be a priority.
Don't blame the event staff because your unit basically said "F You" to safety and health precautions. That's your fault, not theirs. It's your job to get the water - they literally brought it to you - you just had to walk to get it. You give reenactors a bad name. Believe it or not, some of us aren't lazy, nor do we base our impression of the event upon our immediate surroundings. Stick to events in the north, because it's obvious you can't handle a little work to get things done.
@KeV83 You sir give reenactors a bad name. I was perfectly able to go again Sunday. I even marched in the parade on Friday that barely anyone went to. I cannot believe the ignorance of you people.
You seem to be angry about having to alter your impression, too. Oh my. It's called researching and dedication. Don't want to do anything but portray a mid-war Confederate? Then stick to mid-war events!
If you can't hack it, don't come to an event. The last time I checked, no one forces us to go to these events. If it's too hot, don't go. If your officers pass out, get some aid. Don't blame the event staff because your unit basically said "F You" to safety and health precautions. That
Medic tents - These tents were filled with tons of medical supplies. IV's, ice packs, first aid equipment, AC, beds - you name it, they had it. Do you know how much a ride to the ER costs? The event staff took measures to save the reenactors thousands and thousands of dollars in medical expenses. Man, what a bunch of assholes!

I don't know what Manassas event you were at, but you should have really walked the site before posting something as ridiculous as this.
Firstly, the water situation - Please name an event where water was literally piped in from a line and circulated the entire event site. In case you didn't know, the long white pipes were dedicated to pumping water to filling stations. God forbid you walk to one of them. And how about the "pool trucks" carrying thousands of gallons of water?
Next time come prepared, there was plenty of water and ice, water was piped to the camps, ice trucks came around all day, I had no problem being in my wools from Friday morning till Sunday afternoon. I had no problem walking to my vehicle, yes it was hot but I aclimated myself beforehand. I also cannot confirm any deaths. I'm 56 years old, chopped wood Saturday afternoon for our cooks, and had a great time. Next time stay home if you aren't man enough to honor your forefathers.
You have me so mad I cannot even spell. I am sending this to the high comand and it will be brought up at the convention. We do not need people like you in the ANV. You put on and event and I will let you know how you did. This is Reenacting. It has been the same since I started. If you cannot handle it do not do it. But do not make us all look bad because you where not prepared.
You say you are part of the ANV. Well I thing the ANV higher comand need to talk to your comanding officer and get you out of the ANV for making us all look bad by saying the thing you are saying. I have been with the ANV for 12 years and if you are a reenactor then you know this stuff happens at every nation. That life. They were not given ice and what ever they wanted in 1861. We had no water or bathrooms in artillery camp but we want and asked for them and we got them. We also came prepared.
Wow, there is so much misinformation in this video. Maybe next time instead of believing bullshit reenacting rumors you will wait until the truth is out.
I don't know how your life is in long island, maybe your used to having things done for you. But I saw nothing of what your talking about at this event. the VIP tent did have a sign that said VIP, but no one stopped you from coming in. there were medics and ice angels on the battle field. your federal unit should take responsibility for yourself, and stop blaming others for being so unprepared.
Yes you're right it did take a while for ice on Sat., but my unit played it smart we bought ice at least 3 times a day in the morning, afternoon and evening for all our coolers and for the unit's water crock. We've been through other events just as hot, so we knew what we needed to do to prepare.
the VIP tent was for everyone! what are you talking about? there were Ice being handed out on the battlefield everywhere on the first and second day. they came around to camps and offered ice to use for free.
there was a water truck near the main road, across from the parking lot. that was the closest one to the battle . there were ice angels EVERYWHERE, delivering ice to the Reenactor's on the battle field..there were medics on the battlefield. as a Reenactor, you have to take Responsibility for your unit, and yourself. each person in my unit brought 4 gallons of water, for their personal use. why didn't you? spoiled little yankee.
dude there was plentiful free ice being forced on us every two minutes during the battle by ice angels to the point it became really freakin annoying and a period rush killer. i made it the entire weekend on warm water and didnt go down with the heat, your food went bad for want of ice? boo effin hoo maybe try reenacting without the coolers and perishable food. i ate dried fruit, hard tack and goober peas, pre cooked and cured meat out of my haversack and was glad i had no cooler to lug around
I talked to one of the EMTs after the sunday battle, and they said that there were a few people that had to go to the hospitol for dehydration, but there were no deaths(reenactor, spectator or horse). We are from KY and no one from our company had a problem with people going down, but we have good NCO's and officers that made everybody drink. By sunday we still had ice and water left over in the coolers. this sounds like poor planning on your part.
@Seraynia how is getting an extra $.50 per bag a ripoff? If they were charging $6 per bag, then THAT would be a rip off. The ice we bought at the local stores was $3.75 per bag, so we figured paying an extra quarter was worth not having the hassle of driving out to get it. Yeah, I'd gladly pay the event coordinators an extra $.50 per bag of ice to have it delivered to my tent. Moral of the story...nobody got ripped off and no reenactors were shafted in the ice situation.
While I was at the event, everyoine I spoke to who was also at the 140th Manassas (and that includes myself), where it was 104 degrees and Loudon County declared a state of emergency, agreed that this event was run far better. I realize that when thousands of people are involved, individual and even unit experiences can differ greatly, but I will stick to my statement that this, for me, at least, was the best-run large event I ever attended. P.S. At no point in the weekend did I need ice.

and another thing, listen to the other videos of the battle on saturday. you will hear the lady reenactors asking men constantly if you need water. CONSTANTLY!!!
listen. i was with hampton's legion and from kentucky. GO 4TH!!! They had six semis with water, hoses everywhere along with dumpsters and toilets. get off your rears and walk to the cooling stations and water holes. there was also the creek nearby to cool off in like hundreds of others did. people like you are giving reenacting a bad rap. quit expecting everyone to hold your hand while you are out there and just man up. this was a great event if you just learn to take care of yourself
You're a whack-job. Quit crying New York baby. My comment about the Rebs was a joke! Buy a sense of humor and some ice. Maybe a baby's blanket for good measure?
I post again - To all the so called "hardcore campaigner stitch counters" who skedaddled on Saturday night to run home and post on the forums and on YouTube that the event sucked to make their egos feel better for being Pussys - QUIT YOUR WHINING! You missed a great battle on Sunday, it was cooler, and there were more PALLETS of ICE and WATER on and off the battlefield than there were in all the supermarkets in Virginia!
i agree with you 100% the battle was good but us reenactors were treated like shit ! next 150th ya people better take care of the reenactors or there will be NO event
I don't know about the Yanks, but the Confederates had a constant flow of ice and water throughout the whole battle. I couldn't have been more satisfied.
If you were so uncomfortable and upset, you should have just left. This was a really fun and exciting event. Of course, there were problems -- that's to be expected with an event of this size and magnitude but overall it was terrific. I was very proud to be a part of this reenactment. I did learn one thing, Confederate reenactors are whack-jobs. I was warned about these nuts and the Rebs did not disappoint. Union and liberty forever!!!
@dshaffer100 I was in perfect health condition to continue. I left to boycott it. I was honored to be part of such a historic event. Every reenactor there was. But these are people volunteering their time to be helping the history of the ground, and we deserve better treatment. And if you think Confederate reenactors are whack-jobs, you are the narrow-minded person who gives the hobby a bad name. I am C.S. and am from New York, explain that one.
@dshaffer100 I agree with everything you said except the part about the Confederate reenactors being whack jobs. How many Confederate reenactors did you actually sit down and talk to, spend time with, and get to know? I feel your remarks were a bit prejudiced, but respectfully acknowledge you right to have your own opinion, regardless of how skewed it may be.
@redboots1974 I apologize Redboots, I only made that comment because I knew this kid was reenacting with a Confederate unit. I was trying to get his goat. I DO NOT think all Confederate reenactors are whack jobs. I should not have said that. Quite the contrary, I found the Confederates to be professional and committed. I appreciate all reenactors. My comment was stupid but this kid pisses me off.
@dshaffer100 Thanks for the apology. There are bad apples everywhere. As this kid has proven, not all reenactors have what it takes to suck it up and do what is necessary to honor their forefathers in less than desirable situations. Adaption is the key, and our unit adapted well. I am saddened that other units did not. I hated to see so many leaving on Saturday evening, but am grateful to those who stuck it out. His comments upset me too, and I disagreed but...it is a free country after all.
OK, enough of the rumors on deaths, human or otherwise. They simjply did not happen. Provide a link to a reputable news source or shut up. As for the numbers people are quote, you have to undestand the difference between being "evaluated" for heat related issues and admitted. Very few were admitted. Also, numbers are combined reenactors and spectators. The spectators could always leave. Heck so could the reenactors.
@JasonJ1052 I was there when the gentlemen died, he had a heart condition. My dad was the EMT. So these aren't rumors. Also, would you like the entire reenactor world to get put down by the media reporting people dying? If you want whats best, you will shut up.
@TheWhiteBoy9 I'm sorry if it is true that a gentleman passed away during the event. That would be truly heartbreaking. I would send my deepest sympathies to his family. But...if he had a heart condition, then perhaps he should not have participated in an event with "record breaking temperatures."
thats freaking ridiculous. my unit was at the reenactment and they complained of the samething. I wasnt able to make it to the reenactment myself but I dont do well in heat
I too was at this event and I happened to notice white PVC pipe running all over camp providing water. Did you happen to miss this? Also did you notice the cooling tents? As for ice there were three semi trucks full with golf cart delivery throughout yes it was $4 but where im from that's been the norm the last few years. As for water on the field of battle their were pallets strategically placed its not the events fault your battalion command failed to take and hold one of those points.
@SuperBravofour I, too, was at this event, in a unit next to TheWhiteBoy9's unit, and witnessed the police escorted ice delivery, along with the scenario that followed. Not every battalion had access to the water stations-they only pumped in the water so far. The commander of the 3rd Brig. bought hundreds of feet of hose w/his own money so we could get closer access to warm water. And yes, we all noticed the cooling tents....they were no where near us. Without cool water or ice-too far to walk.
There were water stations everywhere to fill up your canteen, in addition to cooling tents and first aide tents. While my group was waiting to go into the "battle" we had access to water and were being given ice and bottled water. weather forecast were available to everyone days before so if you were not prepared don't dump on the people running the event. If you wanted someone to hold your hand you were at the wrong place. As for people dying there, check your sources Walter Cronkite.
@garyjd1166 water stations were NOT provided for everyone...3rd Brigade had NO water or toilets...our commander bought (out of his own pocket) hoses to get water to our camp and arrange for toilets to be moved to our camp
as we were going to the battle saturday, we were told we would be provided with water to top off canteens...never happened. police even prevented us from getting TO the battle because they were told to allow spectators priority...not the cops fault but the organizers
Just to clarify on my previous comment,I wasn't referring to all Yankees, just this guy's unit. This was one of the best organized events I've ever been to.A big Thank You to all the units North and South that stuck it out all weekend in some of the worst heat I've ever experienced !If you can't take heat, cold or rain, you got no business being a Reenactor because chances are it's going to be at least one of the 3
@t0k1wart00th I don't know what organization or unit you're in but this was the biggest cluster ____ I've ever been to...water, ice and toilets were an issue for camps (can these people not count the number who have registered)...getting TO battle was a chinese fire drill...and the scenario was not followed...it was one big screwed up event...the kid is right...the other 150's need to learn from this weekends mistakes
@reblchemst 1stSHA,Jackson's Corp. How can you say water was an issue?there were spickets all over the place and every time I'd go walking around volunteers would hand me a bottle of water. We had no problem with finding ice either.$4 wasn't bad considering they were large bags of ice that were twice the size of the bags at other events at the same price.I bought one and it lasted Sat and Sun.As a far as getting to the battle, sounds like a command problem not an event organizer problem.
There was water every where! If you guys were hurting that bad ,why didn't you go to the first aid tent or grab one of the EMTs that were EVERYWHERE ! You could leave,2 guys in my unit went to Hooters and 5 went to Ruby Tuesday Thurs and Fri,and on Sat brought back pizza. "Waaa! We're stupid yankees and can't take care of ourselves and want everything hand to us on a silver platter" I brought 2 gallons of water and some Gatorade and did fine.I bought 1 LARGE bag of ice for $4 on Sat.
@t0k1wart00th warm water does nobody good!! when body temperatures cause you to pass out, hot water will do NOTHING! 2- I'm not a yankee, i am with the ANV 3- Paying 4 dollars for a bag of ice which was not brought after asking and needing it for 5 hours is bull when it cost enough to register, get there, and our batallion was the Stonewall so we needed blue uniforms
@TheWhiteBoy9 Are you kidding?! COLD water is the worst thing one can drink honestly. Yes it's refreshing, but the body doesn't absorb it as well as warm water brother.
It's nice that your posted a warning, however, your information is incorrect. No one died. Period. Less than 100 were treated at first aid tents for heat and 6-10 were taken to hospitals for treatment. These numbers include Reenactors AND spectators. It sounds like you were either unprepared or uninformed.
One of the members of my unit talked to one of the EMTS they reported that they responded to over 250 calls for heat realated stress, and 80 were taken to the hospital.
@TheWhiteBoy9 Anytime someone says "We all know..." that's a sure sign they don't. Again, provide a link to a reputable web site that says people died. Just because you say something and claim everyone knows it doesn't make it a fact.
@TheWhiteBoy9 Anytime someone says "We all know..." that's a sure sign they don't. Again, provide a link to a reputable web site that says people died. Just because you say something and claim everyone knows it doesn't make it a fact.
@TheWhiteBoy9 no one died! period. stop spreading rumors. you are whining like a bitch. we all knew what this would be when we went into it, you were miserable because you didn't embrace the suck. you have a few legit gripes but i have been doing this for 15 +years and know to expect these problems, dont want to experiance this shit then dont go to mega events and expect to not be exploited. we had alot of heat casualties too and they were evacked out got IV fluid and treated professionally.
hey yank, it got up to 106 give or take heat index. one guy died of a heart attack thursday. and I stayed through sunday and it was cooler. and there was freaking water and ice gived out to everyone. you are taking it far out of paprtion. we fought in our very heavy milita uniforms and still didn't whine about the heat. and don't complane when there were spickets all over the camp. you are a freaking lier and a sad example for a reenactor
@Paooul im confederate...not a yank, and there was water spickets half a mile from the one unit, and the one we were near which didn't even have porta-John's, was warm water
we didn't recieve ice for 5 hours, so don't tryand tell me they gave it out, cause it was 4 bucks per bag and people were passing out left and right
i went to the parade friday, and drill, and saturday battle, so don't tell me im a liar, i was there and experienced it i wore the full uniform, you are a sad uneducated boy
@TheWhiteBoy9 then why was it during the battle we got ice and water handed to us and after the battle people road around handing out ice. we never paid anything for ice. after the first part of saturdays battle they sat us up on "henry house hill" and waited there for over an hour and we still got water and ice. sorry that you had a misriable time but we sucked it up and there was stuff handed out.
I agree with u man. But like some people said, hardtack and bacon kept me going this weekend. Other than that I couldn't agree more. This event was bullshit and the cops were absolutely terrible
You shouldnt have had food that needed to be on ice, I agree with 42Springfield, the EMTs and everybody else who helped out we constantly going around all of us, I obviously cant speak for you but that was the best ive ever seen. There was plenty of water you just had to go get it, its not like there gonna serve you
@CivilWarReenactor i've said it before and again, when 2 people die, you need ice to keep body temps down, not even for food...i think the most important thing is preserving life, so that should take priority, but to the staff there, it was not a priority at all (at least to the entire 3 confedrate regiments in the back corner a half mile from water, and water that was warm
@taco1030 yeah they allowed water to be bought, but the water wasn't the problem; body temp's were too high that people were passing out and they were not delivering ice for 5 hours to the Confederates in the back which they then went to charge $4 per bag for
In addition, there were cooling stations all over the venue, as well as many EMTs who were constantly checking on us. I don't know how long you have been in the hobby, but I have been doing it for 11 years, and this is the best-managed large event I have ever attended. Next time try hardtack and bacon, instead of foods that need refrigeration.
@42Springfield I am aware, my father was an EMT. He saved 3 peoples lives Saturday and helped another 8 people remain stable. The police came as if the reenactors were prisoners. The event opinion will differ based on where you are, but if you have a Springfield I'm guessing you are Union...
I guess in some sense u get a better sense of how the soldiers felt crying for water after the battle. I heard of many accounts of soldiers dying on the marches from lack of water, and at Gettysburg while the men formed up waiting to take part in picketts charge, men where falling left and right, fainting from heat exhaustion and sham chewing.
actually, CA during this time, why my unit left for manassas, it was only like 70* here :P

hey, fool, you DON'T live in VA..call a few days of 100 degrees hot?????? try all summer, every summer, no need for exaggeration. You get what you sign up for and I can GUARANTEE you nobody is going to quit coming to events like these...so, why don't you go send a letter to pwc explaining how you want warm water at events. thanks bye

i was a confederate reenactor at the 150th Manassas. and it was hot but did 2 people really die. i mean the first night i woke up to someone throwing up but that was from the heat and he was fine. they just took him home and someone else woke up with a snake in is bed and started screaming so loud but how come no one told me that someone died?
Skatingboy13 6 months ago
@Skatingboy13 no one died!!! this farb tard is just spreading rumors and whining because he cant hack it in the hobby.
redblackdevil 6 months ago
@Skatingboy13 Nobody died. He just made that up. The man who was throwing up was in my unit (15th VA aka 4th AL) . He was taken to the hospital just to be on the safe side, but he's fine now. This guy making the video doesn't know what he's talking about.
SamuelDMorgan 6 months ago

SO YOU need to post another video apologizing for being a spolied little obnoxious whiny liar.
musicbythemaster 6 months ago 4
@musicbythemaster im sorry do you think you know it all? you CLEARLY are a godlike creature able to see the entire battlefield and know where each unit is and able to prove water was given properly to everyone. That's like saying all the slaves were treated with excellent care by their owners, or that they were treated like crap by their owners, they should not be whining
TheWhiteBoy9 1 month ago
@musicbythemaster were you where we were? that you are an authority? or anyone else to say what we experienced or not? Im sure holocaust survivors would love for you to tell them what it was like to be in a concentration camp
im from New York, by the city, would u like to tell me what happened on 9/11
you are unAmerican, and a disgrace to us all if you still think u are right
TheWhiteBoy9 1 month ago
I have no idea where you were or your unit, but you are full of crap.. and should be ashamed of yourself for spreading such garbage... GO LOOK at the videos to see the enormous pallets of bags of ice and bottles of waters all over the battlefields.. IF YOU or your units weren't properly equiped with water that is your own stupidity. THere were huge water trucks spread out at the Union encampments which is where all of our units got their water. AND anyone could go into the cooling tents
musicbythemaster 6 months ago 4
@musicbythemaster its not our fault that trucks didn't come by us in the back corner, we didn't pick out location. You should think before you speak

CONOR1861 7 months ago
You shouldn't even be worried about a damn cooling area, its 1861 your at a battle not in garrison and im guessing your a private. judging from your misinformation you probably brought a damn wall tent to sleep in. if your going to reenact atleast do it right and dont tell me federals always used tents either im a federal and i use a double bag with a bedroll so i have no cooling tent, if you do a little more research instead of complaining maybe you would know how to keep cool authentically
rutley1990gsdf 7 months ago
There was water available all across the camps. Did your company send any for water with the canteens? I fell out because of heat exhaustion, my colonel made us constantly check on our water. I spent quite a bit of time in one of the cooling tents with no problems there. Sorry you had a bad time. The delivery of ice was problematic, but they did seem to get it together. No deaths.
misteslaus 7 months ago
Take your gripes off the Internet fool. It's obvious that you suck at life and can't drink water and buy the ice off the countless number of ice wagons that were running around. Waah!

You people who hate anyone who's not like you are the reason so many reenactors are leaving the hobby. I hope you're happy with yourself, dickhead.

needless to say without postings sources and just saying we all know its true we can deduce that this is in fact a farb.

@Carricktor - Are you serious? How is what I said giving reenactors "a bad name"? Bashing an event that YOU decided to go to and then making a video about it is viewed as "ok"? @KeV83 the event, was great on the reencators part, and poor on the staff part, you clearly had a different experience because at the event ice was not delivered for 5 hours and people were passing out left and right from it, a riot occured and they needed police, this is something very serious...everyone needs to step out of the uniform, and look at the event from a present human being stand point

@Carricktor bullshit, that police escort he is whining about was there to make shure the ice got up to you guys, from what you say your guys got caught trying to steal someones ice, that is illegal plain and simple. i dont give a damn that your farb ass food was spoiling, i ate unperishible food out of my haversack all weekend and got along just fine boo hoo for your lazy unprepared unit.

bullyboy1863 7 months ago 4
I think this event from the eyes of the re-eanctor all depends on where they were told to set up camp. The folks in the front had cooler water to drink. Us way in the very back had hot water to drink. The hot water brought out the chemicals in the water that the board of health made them put in it. People were getting sick drinking it. Just to walk to the closest water station was 3/4 mile all for hot water.

I have been with the ANV for 12 years and if you are a reenactor then you know this stuff happens at every nation. That life. They were not given ice and what ever they wanted in 1861. We had no water or bathrooms in artillery camp but we want and asked for them and we got them. We also came prepared.

Wow, there is so much misinformation in this video. Maybe next time instead of believing bullshit reenacting rumors you will wait until the truth is out.

I don't know how your life is in long island, maybe your used to having things done for you. But I saw nothing of what your talking about at this event. the VIP tent did have a sign that said VIP, but no one stopped you from coming in. there were medics and ice angels on the battle field. your federal unit should take responsibility for yourself, and stop blaming others for being so unprepared.
spacetrcuker68 7 months ago 2
Yes you're right it did take a while for ice on Sat., but my unit played it smart we bought ice at least 3 times a day in the morning, afternoon and evening for all our coolers and for the unit's water crock. We've been through other events just as hot, so we knew what we needed to do to prepare.
wordsmythe71 7 months ago
the VIP tent was for everyone! what are you talking about? there were Ice being handed out on the battlefield everywhere on the first and second day. they came around to camps and offered ice to use for free.
spacetrcuker68 7 months ago
there was a water truck near the main road, across from the parking lot. that was the closest one to the battle . there were ice angels EVERYWHERE, delivering ice to the Reenactor's on the battle field..there were medics on the battlefield. as a Reenactor, you have to take Responsibility for your unit, and yourself. each person in my unit brought 4 gallons of water, for their personal use. why didn't you? spoiled little yankee.

@Dtilefish i went to the parade which from camp back to camp totalled 5 miles, sounds like it might not be for you..
Carricktor 6 months ago
dude there was plentiful free ice being forced on us every two minutes during the battle by ice angels to the point it became really freakin annoying and a period rush killer. i made it the entire weekend on warm water and didnt go down with the heat, your food went bad for want of ice? boo effin hoo maybe try reenacting without the coolers and perishable food. i ate dried fruit, hard tack and goober peas, pre cooked and cured meat out of my haversack and was glad i had no cooler to lug around
redblackdevil 7 months ago 3

CONSTANTLY!!!
titangod345 7 months ago
listen. i was with hampton's legion and from kentucky.

I don't know about the Yanks, but the Confederates had a constant flow of ice and water throughout the whole battle. I couldn't have been more satisfied.
SamuelDMorgan 7 months ago
If you were so uncomfortable and upset, you should have just left. This was a really fun and exciting event. Of course, there were problems -- that's to be expected with an event of this size and magnitude but overall it was terrific. I was very proud to be a part of this reenactment. I did learn one thing, Confederate reenactors are whack-jobs. I was warned about these nuts and the Rebs did not disappoint. Union and liberty forever!!!
dshaffer100 7 months ago
@dshaffer100 I was in perfect health condition to continue. I left to boycott it. I was honored to be part of such a historic event. Every reenactor there was. But these are people volunteering their time to be helping the history of the ground, and we deserve better treatment. And if you think Confederate reenactors are whack-jobs, you are the narrow-minded person who gives the hobby a bad name. I am C.S. and am from New York, explain that one.
TheWhiteBoy9 7 months ago
@dshaffer100 I agree with everything you said except the part about the Confederate reenactors being whack jobs. How many Confederate reenactors did you actually sit down and talk to, spend time with, and get to know? I feel your remarks were a bit prejudiced, but respectfully acknowledge you right to have your own opinion, regardless of how skewed it may be.
redboots1974 7 months ago
@redboots1974 I apologize Redboots, I only made that comment because I knew this kid was reenacting with a Confederate unit. I was trying to get his goat. I DO NOT think all Confederate reenactors are whack jobs. I should not have said that. Quite the contrary, I found the Confederates to be professional and committed. I appreciate all reenactors. My comment was stupid but this kid pisses me off.
dshaffer100 7 months ago
@dshaffer100 Thanks for the apology. There are bad apples everywhere. As this kid has proven, not all reenactors have what it takes to suck it up and do what is necessary to honor their forefathers in less than desirable situations. Adaption is the key, and our unit adapted well. I am saddened that other units did not. I hated to see so many leaving on Saturday evening, but am grateful to those who stuck it out. His comments upset me too, and I disagreed but...it is a free country after all.
redboots1974 7 months ago
OK, enough of the rumors on deaths, human or otherwise. They simjply did not happen. Provide a link to a reputable news source or shut up. As for the numbers people are quote, you have to undestand the difference between being "evaluated" for heat related issues and admitted. Very few were admitted. Also, numbers are combined reenactors and spectators. The spectators could always leave. Heck so could the reenactors.
JasonJ1052 7 months ago
@JasonJ1052 I was there when the gentlemen died, he had a heart condition. My dad was the EMT. So these aren't rumors. Also, would you like the entire reenactor world to get put down by the media reporting people dying? If you want whats best, you will shut up.
TheWhiteBoy9 7 months ago
@TheWhiteBoy9 I'm sorry if it is true that a gentleman passed away during the event. That would be truly heartbreaking. I would send my deepest sympathies to his family. But...if he had a heart condition, then perhaps he should not have participated in an event with "record breaking temperatures."

thats freaking ridiculous. my unit was at the reenactment and they complained of the samething. I wasnt able to make it to the reenactment myself but I dont do well in heat
AhuraWerewolf1 7 months ago
I too was at this event and I happened to notice white PVC pipe running all over camp providing water. Did you happen to miss this? Also did you notice the cooling tents? As for ice there were three semi trucks full with golf cart delivery throughout yes it was $4 but where im from that's been the norm the last few years. As for water on the field of battle their were pallets strategically placed its not the events fault your battalion command failed to take and hold one of those points.
SuperBravofour 7 months ago
@SuperBravofour I, too, was at this event, in a unit next to TheWhiteBoy9's unit, and witnessed the police escorted ice delivery, along with the scenario that followed. Not every battalion had access to the water stations-they only pumped in the water so far. The commander of the 3rd Brig. bought hundreds of feet of hose w/his own money so we could get closer access to warm water. And yes, we all noticed the cooling tents....they were no where near us. Without cool water or ice-too far to walk.
fergie1863 7 months ago
There were water stations everywhere to fill up your canteen, in addition to cooling tents and first aide tents. While my group was waiting to go into the "battle" we had access to water and were being given ice and bottled water. weather forecast were available to everyone days before so if you were not prepared don't dump on the people running the event. If you wanted someone to hold your hand you were at the wrong place. As for people dying there, check your sources Walter Cronkite.
garyjd1166 7 months ago
@garyjd1166 water stations were NOT provided for everyone...3rd Brigade had NO water or toilets...our commander bought (out of his own pocket) hoses to get water to our camp and arrange for toilets to be moved to our camp
as we were going to the battle saturday, we were told we would be provided with water to top off canteens...never happened. police even prevented us from getting TO the battle because they were told to allow spectators priority...not the cops fault but the organizers
reblchemst 7 months ago
Just to clarify on my previous comment,I wasn't referring to all Yankees, just this guy's unit. This was one of the best organized events I've ever been to.A big Thank You to all the units North and South that stuck it out all weekend in some of the worst heat I've ever experienced !If you can't take heat, cold or rain, you got no business being a Reenactor because chances are it's going to be at least one of the 3
t0k1wart00th 7 months ago
@t0k1wart00th I don't know what organization or unit you're in but this was the biggest cluster ____ I've ever been to...water, ice and toilets were an issue for camps (can these people not count the number who have registered)...getting TO battle was a chinese fire drill...and the scenario was not followed...it was one big screwed up event...the kid is right...the other 150's need to learn from this weekends mistakes
reblchemst 7 months ago
@reblchemst 1stSHA,Jackson's Corp. How can you say water was an issue?there were spickets all over the place and every time I'd go walking around volunteers would hand me a bottle of water. We had no problem with finding ice either.$4 wasn't bad considering they were large bags of ice that were twice the size of the bags at other events at the same price.I bought one and it lasted Sat and Sun.As a far as getting to the battle, sounds like a command problem not an event organizer problem.
t0k1wart00th 7 months ago
I heard there was one death and one horse.
They were giving us plenty of ice all day in the Union camp where we were.
When we tried to go in the VIP TENT, they were like u have to pay $ 3 for it , so we snuck in. I agree with most of the stuff u said.

"Waaa! We're stupid yankees and can't take care of ourselves and want everything hand to us on a silver platter" I brought 2 gallons of water and some Gatorade and did fine.I bought 1 LARGE bag of ice for $4 on Sat.
t0k1wart00th 7 months ago
@t0k1wart00th warm water does nobody good!! when body temperatures cause you to pass out, hot water will do NOTHING! 2- I'm not a yankee, i am with the ANV 3- Paying 4 dollars for a bag of ice which was not brought after asking and needing it for 5 hours is bull when it cost enough to register, get there, and our batallion was the Stonewall so we needed blue uniforms
TheWhiteBoy9 7 months ago
@TheWhiteBoy9 Well, warm water hydrates a person faster since it is close to body temp.
rdblue09 7 months ago 3
@TheWhiteBoy9 Are you kidding?! COLD water is the worst thing one can drink honestly. Yes it's refreshing, but the body doesn't absorb it as well as warm water brother.
14thBrooklynE 7 months ago 4
It's nice that your posted a warning, however, your information is incorrect. No one died. Period. Less than 100 were treated at first aid tents for heat and 6-10 were taken to hospitals for treatment. These numbers include Reenactors AND spectators. It sounds like you were either unprepared or uninformed.
JasonJ1052 7 months ago 4
@JasonJ1052
One of the members of my unit talked to one of the EMTS they reported that they responded to over 250 calls for heat realated stress, and 80 were taken to the hospital.

This event was bullshit and the cops were absolutely terrible
k1llertaz18 7 months ago
@k1llertaz18 yeah was not so much the food, but the need of ice to keep the water and drinks cold so that body temps can remain low
TheWhiteBoy9 7 months ago
You shouldnt have had food that needed to be on ice, I agree with 42Springfield, the EMTs and everybody else who helped out we constantly going around all of us, I obviously cant speak for you but that was the best ive ever seen. CivilWarReenactor 7 months ago

Next time try hardtack and bacon, instead of foods that need refrigeration.
42Springfield 7 months ago
@42Springfield I am aware, my father was an EMT. He saved 3 peoples lives Saturday and helped another 8 people remain stable. The police came as if the reenactors were prisoners. The event opinion will differ based on where you are, but if you have a Springfield I'm guessing you are Union...
TheWhiteBoy9 7 months ago
Wow that's horrible! D:
I guess in some sense u get a better sense of how the soldiers felt crying for water after the battle. I heard of many accounts of soldiers dying on the marches from lack of water, and at Gettysburg while the men formed up waiting to take part in picketts charge, men where falling left and right, fainting from heat exhaustion and sham chewing.
