  • Do you know if this would work the same (or be similar) if I substituted the olive, almond, or jojoba oil for the coconut oil? I'm allergic to coconut oil (I think the cream should be fine though)

  • Coconut oil is the bomb! You can use it for hair, skin, teeth (oil pulling or even brushing) plus it's safe to eat unless you are allergic.

  • Love it .....This worked Great.....

  • wow so the results last up to 3 months I'm gonna try to give this a try!

  • I didn't see any difference other than her hair looking wet and pliable like most hair after it's wet.

  • That camera person breathin mad hard nd dnt kno how to eork the camera

  • @realbarbiegurl1988 that was my 8 yr old son working the camera who is an amateur, no doubt. Hopefully you found other redeeming qualities of the video besides the minutiae and trivialness.

  • I want to do this but not sure about whether there will be harm if I wash the hair 1st or after a wash because your daughter's hair looks dry as if you did not wet it by washing it first.

  • @Anjeelah it's done on dry hair as I demonstrated on in the video.

  • Very nice...however, after watching a few times, I still cannot tell whether you wash the hair 1st or you apply this to unwashed hair???? Also, after the initial application, you do not indicate that you rinsed the product out. It looks to me like you did but you didn't address that - or did you wash it out????

  • @Anjeelah I applied it to dry hair and washed it afterwards.

  • I have some coconut cream concentrate that I ordered online from Tropical traditions. I just rubbed about two cups of it on my mattress for ass aromatherapy. And to stimulate my senses while I am asleep.

  • will this work for relaxed hair as well?!

  • @ashkatXO Yes!!! Let me know how it turns out and sorry for the late response

  • @thatgirrl5 no problem, thanks!

  • are you still using this, and do you use it on your hair as well?

  • @godsflame2 Yes and I will be posting more videos soon. Just been extremely busy with my day job and life. Plus having issues with my camera.

  • are there any substitutes for the Coconut cream concentrate?

  • she has a good grain of hair!

  • Comment removed

  • coconut oil, avocado, yogurt - her hair sounds delicious! Very interesting though, seriously, thanks for doing this. The curls look so pretty after the treatment.

  • @bunnyrabbitorama IKR!!!

  • @bunnyrabbitorama Thank you!

  • I'm thinking of trying this on my daughters' hair. What is the purpose of the yogurt?

  • Can you use this on hair that is relaxed?

  • Did you wash her hair after applying the coconut mixture, or just rinse? I want to try this regimen on my daughter's hair for managability because I am trying so HARD to avoid relaxing it, she is only 8. Her hair is very coil curley and kinky especially in the middle section. Should I shampoo & condition her hair and use this coconut regimen as a 3rd step and rinse? How does this work? I'm a mother in need of HELP! :)

  • @epatriceg I washed it out. I would avoid relaxing at all costs. The key is moisture.

  • @epatriceg Your daughter and my hair are the same. Let me know about your results!

  • Me and her daughter have the same hair I dont think its a three

  • Isn't there a better way to melt it? Microwaving kills many beneficial aspects of the coconut oil.

  • @ShadowedTheMovie Whatever works best for you!

  • @ShadowedTheMovie The best way to melt coconut cream or coconut oil, is to get a large mixing boil, fill it with boiling water. BEFORE you put the jar or container or coconut cream in, if it is a glass jar make sure it has warmed up to room temperature or you will burst the jar. Remove the lid and place the jar in the water, checking on the coconut cream & stirring every 5-10 minutes as more melts. Dump out the cold water & add more hot water as needed. Hope that helps! :)

  • did you just rinse out? Or cowash out?

  • I can't find the coconut cream concentrate on the website and I need to HURRY cause it's 10% off riht now.loll.

  • I really wish we could do away with the hair classifications. Who cares if her daughter's hair is like 4a and she thinks its a 3b or whatever. Its just doesn't matter. she needs to stop talking about it in front of her daughter.

  • this would be ok if u were relaxed instead of natural. I'm currently 10wks post and I have another 3weeks before a relaxer but my new growth is sooooo thick and even after cowashing, deep conditiong and hot oils my hair still seems a bit dry and it takes me at least an 1hr to detangle. They last few weeks of a stretch are always the hardest and I'm looking for something that will help with moisture so that I can hold out these last 3 weeks

  • OMG....THIS IS MY DAUGHTERS HAIR AND I AM TRYN IT TOMORROW!!!

  • can you use "cream of coconut" instead of coconut cream concentrate ?

  • how much amount did you use of each product for the amount of hair your daughter has?

  • how much of each product do you use for the amount of hair your little girl has?

  • can u use coconut milk if u dont have the creme ??? would it still help ?

  • would this soften new growth

  • Thanks! Finally got around to trying this and used the coconut products you suggested. By accident I used full fat yogurt instead of fat free. I'm not sure if that would have made a difference, but I still got good results. It's a miracle.

The only thing is that since I have primarily 4b hair, detangling it by combing, separated the strands, added volume and contributed to shrinkage. Is this permanent, and only the roots need to be touched up?

  • thanks. This worked wonders on my mom's natural hair. It returned that moisture back to her hair that she hasn't had for years. I used the exact products from tropical traditions. I will be trying it on my hair today.

  • @flvagirl11 I am happy it worked well on her hair. Please let me know how it works on yours.

  • @thatgirrl5 I am very pleased with the result that I have received. I use all the ingredients from you video, the type of yogurt that I used was plain greek yogurt 7 ounce. I warmed the tropical traditions oil and cream in a skillet before adding the yogurt and stirred all the ingredients until warm. I saturated my hair because I found it too difficult to come through at the time. Than I wrapped my head with saran wrap and sit under a dryer for about an hour.

  • cont.....I washed it out and could not believe how much it loosened the texture of my hair! However, my hair was still tangled so I used BABA DE CARACOL Leave in Regenerativo (Dominican Leave-in treatment). I'm Next, I roll set my hair it was amazing how untangled my hair was, my hair was not breaking like usually. Lastly, I set under a dryer for about 45 minute to an hour. When I took the roller out my hair was straight, I could not believe it.

  • cont.....I could truly say that my hair looked relax, the volume that I had before was gone. I'm African-American, I have not had a relaxer since November 2010. I had prayed that God will show me a way to do my own hair, because I was tired of going to salons mostly (dominican) that treat you badly because your hair is not relaxed, some don't like doing natural african hair. And my hair would come out so damaged because of all the heat and blowing drying they used to straighten my hair.

  • Cannot wait to try it!!!

  • this seems like it would be great for the summer time when you dont want to put ne junk on ur hair. i will definatley try this

  • Wait did you wash her hair after you finished the cream relaxer? Or rinse it out before you added the shea butter? I can't wait to try this on my virgin hair.

  • its nothing 4a about her hair especially when cream is applied i just dont see 4a in there

  • @ballerandrunner i suggest you use a shower cap when in the shower...did that help ..if it didnt i can do some research for you

  • do you wash out the mixture with warm water or shampoo ?????

  • can this work on afro hair 3a 4c

  • Hi, That Girl5,

Thank you for this information. In your previous response, you warned about "over-using", resulting in "over softening". Has this actually happened to you, and if so, did you do anything to correct that? Or just wait it out? Thank you for sharing.

  • How long did you leave the mixture on your daughter's hair?

  • I'm a caucasian male with very curly hair..I wanted to know: this "natural relaxer" probably doesn't last after more than 1 day now does it? Only relaxers do so I'm wondering how does this measure up after like 2 months and you keep showering? Does the "loosening of the curl" last that long or does it easily revert after 1 day? This video wasn't real clear for me on that issue, thanks if anyone can answer this.

  • @BallerandRunner You asked about showering. It lasts that long because black people don't wash their hair everyday, at least not with the length of hair that the girl has. It's too much work to do that every day. So while showering, most of us wear a shower cap to prevent the hair from getting wet. I hope that helped answer your question.

  • @CraziiSexyKidd Hey thanks it did, but I shower every day (not shampoo every day but nevertheless water hits my head every day) and so I was wondering if it will still last. I heard it won't, so I'm just making sure. I was wondering how much percentage of curl reduction happens when this is applied, and how long that percentage reduced will stay after washing hair over and over again. thanks .

  • @BallerandRunner I haven't tried this yet due to lack of ingredients, but you don't have to wait two months to apply it again. I've seen some videos in response to this one in which the people using it do the treatment once every month. I guess it depends on your hair.

  • you are a life saverrrrrrr god bless you

  • Thanks so much I must try this on my hair and my girl's hair.

  • did you wash her hair with shampoo? Or just rinse with water?

  • What you are calling a 'relaxer' is actually 'defining' her curl pattern, kind of the opposite and the result is Beautiful!

I don't think we are used to thinking of curls as beautiful because we are so busy trying to straighten, but our curls are so beautiful when we embrace them, your daughter's hair is gorgeous by the way, I will definitely try this on my daughter's hair

  • Thank you for sharing. I think I'll try this.

  • i cant wait to buy these products with my tax money!!

  • Awww now this is what I like to see ! Natural and beautiful, thanks for sharing !

  • Hi do you have any suggestions for homemade hair smoothies? And also can I use this on my transitioning hair?

  • can you use this on color-treated/bleached hair?

  • I tried this yesterday. It does work. My hair is small coils on one side and loser on the other. I used the correct products from Trop. Trad. I noticed immed. that my bangs went from my eyebrow to covering my eye. The sides went from the ear to an inch below ear. the coily side is straighter. I washed with shampoo to remove buildup, did treatment, washed with hair rules shampoo and condish. Just wanted to post that it does work. love results. will do monthly

  • Can u use this on 4a-4c hair?

  • great.this is more of a super deep conditioning treatment that softens the curl pattern and make it a lot more manageable.perfect for kinky curly naturals.

  • lime oil with the coconut does a better job loosening the curls

  • what is the end result?????????

  • where did u find this recipe?

  • who said this mixture straightens your hair ?

  • also i see people putting limon in it do you do that.

  • @fransou19 No I don't use lemon as it is drying. I only use what is listed in the video. I can't vouch for anything else. This has worked for us and we have retained healthy long hair.

  • @thatgirrl5 Thank you for the info.

  • @fransou19 lemon is also bleach so watch out if you don't plan on lightening your hair

  • @fransou19 lemon also has a subtle bleaching affect after exposure to sunlight, so watch out if you don't plan on lightening up your hair

  • hi i'm so schock and happy to discover this.a girl mention you for viewers and her hair is 4 like. and it did work so i might try this.1 -how many time per week or month to do.2- do the curl come back 3-do the hair get dry even is a natural process.4-my hair extremely thick and diferent curl pattern all over.how many bol u prepare so you don't run out during process.pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee please answer me.

  • @fransou19 LOL...Thank you for watching and I am happy to hear that others are experiencing wonderful results as we have. This works for your own individual hair. It usually lasts a couple of months for my daughter. Depending upon your texture and needs. Since this isn't a chemical, you have to style as usual. You will need to continue to use whatever moisturizing products you have been. Remember, this will not change the curl pattern, just relax "some" of the curl. Amount is also based on u

  • i loved the video!!! how d u grade ur hair? like u say ur daughter has 3a 3b hair. wat does that mean? and how do u grade it? my hair has different txtures its very curly a lil wavy nd a lil frizzy. ive never had a perm and sumtimes i wear it naturally curly but it dries up after a couple hrs. also, do u wash it out after u let it sit?

  • Her hair is no where near 3b, also this formualtion is more of a moisture/protein deep treat. If you add amino acids, it would be more like the "cherry lola" treatment.

  • @hondahx When I made this video 2 yrs ago, I was just learning about natural hair and wasn't knowledgeable about hair typing. Since through trial & error I have figured out what ingredients work best in our hair, I have successfully been able to keep it healthy and retain length. The term relaxer was used to describe elongating or "relaxing" the curls/kinks. A true "relaxer" would utilize chemicals. Re: cherrylola - I haven't heard of it until now however I will stick with what works for us.

  • Your daughter is a type 4.

  • @starviolet78 When I made this video 2 years ago, I was just learning about natural hair and was not knowledgeable about the hair typing system . Now, it doesn't matter or is not important what her hair type is because I have been successful in choosing (ingredients) what works and what doesn't work for her hair. Her hair is now an inch or two above her butt when straightened out. I have successfully managed not only to keep her hair healthy but retain length. Thanks for watching!

  • Great video.I have a question,do you wash and shampoo your hair before you apply this relaxer?I want to try it,but i am note sure if i have to wash my hair before or after the coconut relaxer.

  • @menubian Yes, wash this out after you have left the treatment work in the hair.

  • Great video.I have a question,do you wash and shampoo your hair before you apply this relaxer?

  • @menubian No, afterwards...Thanks for watching.

  • WHAT IS THAT RANDOM SPARKLY NOISE?? O.o good vid, though. :D

  • @MizMimiCullen I don't know...LOL (Thanks)

  • When you say that it lasts about 2-3 months, do you mean that the hair will revert? Or you usually have to do a touch up (for the new growth) around that time?

  • @velvety88 You will have to determine what works for you. It usually lasts in our hair for a month or so. It all depends on the needs of the hair. Remember, it is not a chemical.

  • Great vid! I should try this. Your daughter could very well be my hair twin. I would say your daughter is a 3c, as I am, even though she could have multiple textures (it's also hard to tell when someone's hair is brushed back in a pony). I have my hair cut in layers and the longest which goes all the way down my back when straight has elongated due to the weight and is starting to resemble 3b more than 3c now. Regardless of the label, her hair is gorgeous!

  • @najintrigue Thank you :-)

  • how can someone tell which hair type they have? i just started hearing about 3c's, 4a's and all that lol

  • @GemRubyDiam0nd If you google it...I am still not exactly sure but naturallycurlydotcom has a hairtyping system.

  • She has 3c/ 4a hair, 3a hair is more like caucaisian curls or hispanic curls, however her hair is still pretty :)

  • @DivaChild2468 Thank you :-)

  • You're gonna put the chemical relaxer companies out of business!! :)

  • @vanitysadeparis LOL, thanks I just hope others have success.

  • i think its so sad that what most people are discussing (debating) in these comments, is her hair texture #/letter. who cares? shes a cute kid, with cute curly hair...

  • @nikirylee It matters because the different hair types sometimes require different techniques and products. I am a classic 3b (singer Mya is my hair twin) and that child's hair is NOT 3b at all. My daughter is a classic 4a, and her hair resembles this child's much more. MUCH more. The little girl in the vid is gorgeous and she has absolutely gorgeous hair. Stating the true texture doesn't take away from the beauty of the hair.

  • @CheekyMulattress ADDENDUM.....My daughter's curls don't look like that when wet, though....my daughter doesn't have any 3 at all in her hair, classic 4a all the way. Her hair and my daughter's hair have a lot more in common than it does with my own hair.

The little girl in the vid is definitely a 3c/4a, as others have stated.

  • Thanks fir the video, do u think this will work on very dry and course 4c hair. I can't find anything that will moisturize me and my toddlers hair and i'm planning on perming my hair, what do u suggest? How do u measure it before u mix it and what kind of shampoo and conditioner u use to wash out her hair?

  • @kimoni6 Try Qhemet Biologics Amla and Olive Heavy Cream and the Honey Hydrating Balm. Good Luck!

  • on top of the texture and moisture improvement, i can see that her curl definition all over was really more defined! have you tried this on 4a/4b hair at all, or do you know of someone that has?

  • @bradioactive I have a combination of 3c, 4a and some 4b in the middle. I am transitioning from a relaxer (this month makes one year transition). It really does help. If you check on the right of this video, there are many people who have posted videos of trying my treatment. Hope this helps and thank you for watching!

  • @thatgirrl5 so this is okay to try on transitioning hair? Do you think the protein in the coconut is too much and would break my relaxed hair from my natural hair?? I would like to try it to help me transition. Thanks in advance!

  • Question: How does this work with hair that is transitioning from relaxer?

  • @uniquesuccess I am transitioning myself. I am trying to post some videos of my transition, but I've been so busy. I am 1 year since my last relaxer and have achieved significant growth.

  • You are a genius! . Lol

Do you think I could use this while transitioning?

  • @BigHoops101 Thank you. I am transitioning myself. I am trying to post some videos of my transition, but I've been so busy. I am 1 year since my last relaxer and have achieved significant growth.

  • u seem a bit harsh in combing her hair..you have to start from top to root coz as you can see, yes you were gliding from root up when you arrived at the tip , the comb kept getting snagged and so you were pulling on her tender head as you were trying to detangle those knots. Other than that, great vid.

  • @summerfresh21 Thanks for watching. I had explained in another video as this was brought up before. I take extra special care in combing her hair. I haven't done a video of her nor myself but her hair is now about an inch or two above her butt and mine is now in the middle of my back. I would not have achieved or "retained" such growth with rough combing. It may appear so on camera, but it wasn't. Just last week, I spent an hour and a half in the bathtub detangling her hair (gently).

  • @SexySasha2000 wow i must be like 4z because mine is thicker and shrinks! i can never get a pony tail though it's as long as hers if not longer!

  • @naturalnchic1 It does help to stretch out your curls/kinks.

  • @naturalnchic1 i must have replied to the wrong person.... by mistake! i was being sarcastic because they keep repeating her hair is 4a etc XD

  • I have just begun my natural journey beginning 7/9/2010 and my hair is truly a sponge ball when wet. I tried the concoction over the week end and I love it. My hair has length and looks great. By the way I used saran wrap and slept with the product in my hair over night what a BIG difference. I have volume and when my hair is wet the detangling process is next to nothing. Thank you sooooo much.

  • @24vicster Wow! I am happy to hear that! I am transitioning for a year as well and my hair is in the middle of my back. I have not had to cut my hair nor had breakage of the two textures working against each other. Much success on your journey!

  • What a great Mom you are to put so much time in helping your child have more healthy hair. I am sure she appreciates this special care. It will encourage her to take care with her apperance. I am white but my sister and I both had impossible hair and my sister's was especilly kinky. And kids can be mean. But my Mom was Always busy with career and other obligations. So we learned on our own how to deal with our hair problems.Great and informative video.

  • @FLYINGGOLDENBIRDS Thanks so much! I try my best.

  • @FLYINGGOLDENBIRDS Thank you!

  • aaa

  • Thanks for sharing this info with us!

  • @destined4blessin You're welcome. Thank you for watching!

  • @destined4blessin Thanks for watching!

  • wow! that really works!!!

  • How much of each product do you use, so that I can make some.

  • who the hell is holding the camera?

  • Do you wash out the coconut oil mixture or do you leave in the hair after the desired process?

  • My daughter has similar texture hair as yours do. Yes, I also make my own coconut bases and will soon try the relaxer (using fresh coconuts; Of Course!.) Since it's cheaper and fresher. Q-All though my hair texture is a little more coarse, Should I leave in longer? Great video!!

  • @tkhq19 You can leave this as long as you want really as there aren't any chemicals. You just want to make sure the hair isn't over-moisturized. Use your own judgment.

  • My daughter has the same texture hair as your daughters does...beautiful,

Yes I myself use all natural ing. for my hair as well as for my girl. Good video, I'll try it soon... I also make my own coconut bases and will soon try it for a relaxer. Thanks

  • Tropical Traditons has a ebay store !!!! I got really goods deal on the coconut cream and the oil I won a 32oz of coconut cream concentrate for $19.50

  • @sepiavenus Thanks for posting this! I'll have to check it out.

  • I dont think this is a relaxer. more like a deep conditioning treatment. And that is definately not 3c hair its more like 4a/4b hair.

  • @pictureperfect2690 She definitely has 3c hair. 4a/b hair is more coiled. 3c is more corkscrew curls. Go to naturallycurly . com

  • @xhevoice Looking at the video it doesnt seem like type three hair and i think a lot of people will agree with me. Hair typing is nothing serious and ppl usually use it to jus to describe their texture to others. It may seem to be a looser curl when wet but dry her hair looks like type 4a hair.

  • @pictureperfect2690 You are absolutely right, it's not that serious. However, 2 yrs ago when I made this video and researching natural hair, I came across all of these forums talking about hairtyping and felt it would assist me in using the right ingredients for her hair. Since I now understand the ingredients that work for her hair, I have stuck with those staples and have been successful in keeping her hair healthy and retaining length. The most important aspect is knowing what works...

  • This video was enlightening. I currently where perm (TCB or Motions) in my hair because I want the curly look. I would love to go natural. I’ve cut my hair really short and this week I’m cutting out the color because it turned my hair too hard and brittle. It almost scared me. Once I had the color put in that was 2 weeks of no new perm after my hair cut. I generally perm my hair the following day after each 2-3 week haircut. So your relaxer technique is ingenious. I want the curly look w/o perm.

  • @heavenlypresence Thank u!

  • CAN I USE THIS ON MY DUAGHTER WHO IS 3... HER HAIR IS KIND OF ON THE COURSE SIDE

  • @misstott34

Your daughter needs lots of moisturizer. Also ensure she eats a balanced diet with lots of foods B, E, A, and C, along with lots of fluids. Mostly, your daughter sounds like she has a strong shaft of hair, that is positive. She has versitile hair.

  • @misstott34 Yes, it is not a chemical.

  • how did you find out about or create this thatgirl5? sorry for all the questions

  • @xxmuzicchickxx Trial and error.

  • @chefbriapink I think she used plain yogurt with no added sugar. Not greek yogurt, just plain yogurt. She posted the coconut cream link in the description. Its by tropical traditions.

  • can you please respond to this thatgirl5? I want to use this but I am scared it will take away most of my curl pattern, because it is wavy on some parts. I know you said it lasts 2-3 months, but Does it ever completely fade away? I want looser curls, but then again I don't

  • @xxmuzicchickxx Since this is more of a treatment than say a chemical relaxer, this has no long term effects. It will not take away your curl unless you mix some chemicals with it. It's all natural ingredients. It basically "temporarily" loosens your curls through conditioning and moisturizing. Hope this helps and thanks for tuning in. Let me know your results!

  • @thatgirrl5 thanks! I'm definitely trying this! & I will make a video response afterwards

  • after you apply the coconut oil, did you wash it out?

  • @SexySasha2000 lol... yeah she got it mixed up.. shes a solid 4a

  • wow this is awesome. In my opinion if it is all natural, doesn't damage your hair and makes your life easier than I'm all for it. Who cares what anyone else thinks. It may even help you retain length if you are losing less hair in the detangling process. Good for you!

  • Can you us concentrated coconut milk??

  • Do you have to use traditions virgin coconut oil. Beucase I have to organic virgin coconut oil that I cook with right now.

  • Her hair is 3c actually, 3a & 3b is much looser. 3c hair makes 'S's and/or spirals. This seems like this should be called a deep conditioner instead of a relaxer.

  • Thank you! I'm going to try that. Especially as my hair gets longer. I have 3B/3C hair so the result won't be exactly like that, but anything that will make my thick hair easier to deal with with be good. I've been wearing my natural hair in a ton of little individual braids only braided about 2 inches down and the rest just curls as usual to make my life easier. I appreciate your post.

  • FINALLY!! my little sister has the exact same hair type and my mom can't manage it and our hair type are totally different im more wavy and shes just head full of curls, so I'm learning different ways to tame her beautiful curls without damaging her hair and im so happy i found your video!! btw is this curl relaxer just for curly hair or can be used on wavy to lose curls?

    Thanks again!

  • Your daughter has very beautiful hair. I am thinking about trying this treatment. I need some manageability with my hair.

  • does diz irritat duh scalp like a regular relaxer????

  • @mzpurplediva3 no it doesn't irritate the scalp. its just yogurt, cream, and oil. she just jumped because the stuff was cold. the woman has it in her hands with no gloves, its completely natural, and even edible.

  • She has beautiful hair

  • okay so, im so totally all for natural relaxers but im unsure about the results because i haven't seen any videos for long haired 4b,4c type hair and i really wanna try this but right now im very hesistant, but im really getting tired of my hair in braids, my hair doesn't look long enough in my braid it just looks really short, like you know shrunken. So if you have long hair and know how it is or how it looks please help me , like with a video && stuff :P :) ,btw great video good stuff :)

  • @rainboww05 FreeWorshipFreeWors has a more kinky hairtype and she uses this method, check her out! :) It may not "loosen" the curl pattern as much but it will be a good moisturizer for you most likely.
