there is no way thats a gyro ball... either he doesnt have one or some one used the wrong one for the video, i agree it was just a breaking ball, some variation on teh curve
his style can dominate if he is comfortable which is the cause for the special treatment. think of matsuzaka, and now think of how irabu was treated lol...
boston hopes matsuzaka will be like clemons pfftt nah matsuzaka ain't a selfish doof he will be himself and that's why i'd watch him pitch not because lame-ass SI and "sports weekly" tell me to. go daisuke! pitch great despite all the stupid crap surrounding you! Boston is desperate for him to win for them which is sad yet funny but inconsequential. if i were matsuzaka i'd just go out and own hitter after hitter because he can do just that.
the american press can hype matsuzaka forever but it won't keep me from watching people like Igawa, Okajima, Kaz Matsui, Ohka, Iwamura, Johjima, and Ichiro too. Igawa in my opinion will have a better opportunity to do well he has guidry to rely on. Hideki won't make much of a kohai for igawa but igawa does better when trusting his instinct.
This is just a slider, a good one but just a slider... the Niezer video is terrible, two seconds and you can't see anything. I'd love to see him produce a much better video.
20 years from know if knuckleballers die out, some guy in Japan will re-embrace it, apply a Japanese name to it, it'll be translated as "fist ball" or something, and everyone that's forgotten about the knuckler will be in awe and paying 42 millions for the right to him. =d
no it is not a screwball... a screwball is the opposite of a curve... so a screw moves from left to right when it moves side to side at all... this moves from right to left and the stress on the arm so much less
think what you will but i played on my high school baseball team with joey at Oldenburg Academy and i've seen the ball... you guys are just now having a discussion about it when its been over two years since ive seen the pitch... everyone is entitled to their own opinion ... but theres nothing saying that peoples opinions cant be wrong lol
It's a gyro ball, the ball doesn't fall at all basically and it just stays still until 3/4ths of the way there then bam, break and you're like what the fuck?
nips are good at bukkake and happy ending massage. leave baseball to the originators.

A 26 year old pitcher, who commands six pitches, and the ability to reach 95 on his fastball.

Any0ther you are wrong, matsuzaka said he DOES throw the gyroball ,he just hasnt masterd it.
ao430 5 years ago
You can clearly see the bullet-like spin on that, it's a gyroball
whalefarmerjohn 5 years ago
plus this is a horrible angle... there are other vidoes which show the correct pronation of the hand upon release in slow motion
hoff71886 5 years ago
Matsuzaka may not know how to throw the pitch but Joey Niezer does. google the names joey niezer, will carroll, and bill burke.
hoff71886 5 years ago
The only Joey Niezer film is the definition of "Zapruder". You can't see a thing. The gyroball does not exist. It's a slider.

No, it's not a gyroball. It's just a breaking ball as viewed from a really strange camera angle.
Matsuzaka has repeatedly said he doesn't know how to throw a gyroball.
