James Cameron is such a douchebag when he says this movie is a misuse of 3-D... Without the revolutionary advancements made by this movie in 3-C filmmaking, he wouldn't be able to cash into it today.
@SlashManEXE WTF? James is a moron. I saw this at the theater in 3-D and I think it's the greatest 3-D movie ever made! 3-D movies NOW are a misuse of 3-D - PRIEST sucked the big one.
I liked this one, I watched it as a kid and wasnt scared it was very entertaing, damn that like back in 1982? my parents didnt let me go to the theater to see it so how was the 3D?
The problem with today's horror films is that everyone wants these huge, elaborate explanations and back stories as to WHY someone's killing everyone. Who cares?! I wish it was like the old days when all you needed to know was that some guy was going around getting revenge. The first four Friday the 13th movies are some of the best horror films ever.
@WildGunman77 Agree. don't waste time on story that could be spent on someone getting ripped apart in a nicely gory fashion. a guy gets pissed off and wants a body count. As long as its a good and original death thats all you need.
i also think richard brooker was the best ever jason.and amazingly he was english.how come an english guy gets to play him?im from england myself and i find it weird.great films.
not realy the good one are all the one in the 80s not just 1-4 i like the ones with tommy 2 and the telekinetic girl also Manhattan those are all classic
Would have to post it as a alternating-frame 'interleve' video, which would require your having LCD shutter-glasses and a converter box to view it with. Not too many people have the equipment. Didn't seem worth the effort. {But I do have the film in alternating-frame on DVD (imported from Canada)}. The red/green version out on DVD in the USA currently is just aweful. Don't buy it.
I would love to go to a theatre and actually see this classic as it was meant to be seen: in actual 3D! I haven't had the opportunity to see the newly released version of the film with the red-blue glasses, but I heard that the film was actually shot in another form of 3D other than what is presented in that DVD. Either way, I guess it's better than nothing at all.
@SammieDeLuce to be honest i dont think it matters who plays him.it is still a big guy in a mask.it could have been kane hodder in part4!!!who can tell them apart.
I was a freaking senior in high school when this came out---and remember seeing it at the drive-in with the 3D glasses. Holy shit----I must be getting old!!!!!!!
HAHAHAHAHHAHA!!! MountcastleFilms, I was just reading this banter between you two and went to pegbars' channel. That's fucking funny! I've read some other posts of yours, so I know you're just kidding.
Now you're making assumptions. I've worked in the motion picture industry for 35 years, so my knowledge comes firsthand. 3D comes around about every 15-20 years, so it's not new. I installed the Paramount systems for this picture in the early 80s, did Spacevision for Bryanston's '73 horror releases, and now doing RealD and Digital Cinema installs.
You're making an inference from a Life magazine photo. Polarized 3D was very much in use in the 50s; they were interlocked, two-projector arrangements. Single-projector systems (over/under or side-by-side on same print) didn't come along until the late 60s/early 70s.
Anaglyphic prints were for theatres without silver screens or interlocked projectors (like drive-ins and neighborhood houses) so that they could run some semblance of 3D without any investment.
I would love this film, in all its original 3D glory, to be shown in Houston someday. I have not had the chance to see this yet in 3D. And from what I keep hearing about the new DVD release, it'll be the old red/blue 3D that gives me terrible headaches, like the 3D at the end of Freddy's Dead. Of course, that 3D was crap anyway. But still, does anyone know if this film will ever be shown in Houston the proper way, with polarized 3D?
Yes, on February 13th of this year, Paramount is releasing part 3 in 3D on DVD. Unfortunately, it will most likely be the red/green or red/blue 3D because the 3D that was used for this films theatrical run was the polarized "clear" glasses kind, which is just about impossible to duplicate on a TV. Oh well, at least its better than nothing at this rate.
Unfortunately, Real-D 3D Glasses will NOT work with FILM-projected, polarized 3D (only with VIDEO-polarized projected 3D). Real-D creators wanted to make sure theatres would have to buy THEIR 3D glasses and not from independent suppliers (who might have a warehouse full of old glasses from the '80s). The old polarized 3D glasses have left-DIAGONAL and right-DIAGONAL polarization; and the Real-D glasses have VERTICAL and HORIZONTAL polarization. The two type of polarized glasses are incompatible.
On The paramount box set of the first eight movies, they thank Dana Kimmel Anderson. However, she is not in the featurette. Are they thanking her because she has to give them permission to use footage of her?
Also, I already pre-ordered my copy of "Friday the 13th 3D." Please tell me it won't be the blue and red glasses! I still have my original glasses from the original 1982 release of the movie. They have a picture of Jason's hand holding a the fireplace poker down the handle.
I remember the girl who played "Trish" from part 4 was on Dynasty, but I can't think of her real name. Dana Kimmel("Chris") was on "The Facts of Life" for one episode as Blair's snobbish rich friend, and "The 100,000 Dollar Pyramid" (as Dana Anderson),but get this: She was the contestant, not one of the celebrity guests. She was also in another eighties horror movie called "Sweet Sixteen."
Unfortunately, no. It will not be shown this year at Halloween. However, we are getting the Real-D Video Projected system in January of 2009, so we might be able to swing running it for Halloween 2009. It all depends. Keep checking the website from last year and see if it changes to an update for 2009 next Spring. Geoff
Sorry, but no dice ! They took away our 'silver aluminized screen' (which is required to reflect polarized light) two weeks after the October showing. It was slightly damaged on one side. The company replaced it with a white one. The showing in October 2007 was the LAST polarized 3D that could be shown at our theatre. Things 'may' change if we get the new 'Real-D' Video Projected 3D in the years to come. AND, if Paramount converts Friday the 13th 3-D to the Real-D format. Yours, Geoff
Weird ! I do not believe IMDB had this up before. Imdb states that friday 13th part 3 was partially shot in Vernon NJ. I knew that store/mini mart looked familiar. Like i said no way back than in 1982 would they have all that jersey stuff in Cali !
I know the first two movies were shot in jersey. I am trying to say that part of the third movie was also shot in NJ even though it doesn't say in anywhere. In the convenience store they have a new jersey herald newspaper and outside the store you can see a bulletin board with all Sussex county nj places. No way in hell someone transported all that stuff to Cali for the movie. Also the van has NJ plates and the yellow little volks has a jersey plate.
I know that ! I have been telling people for years though that the store scene is without a doubt filmed in new jersey. Also the road outside the store. I don't know how much more of the film if any is flimed in jersey. Just about all of it is in Cali of course.
Everywhere i look says this movie is filmed in California but when they are in the mini market i see the Sussex herald newspaper which is right by me in northwest jersey. Also outside the mini market there is a sign for the old Newton Flea Market. I can't figure out for the life of me why all these jersey things are in this 3rd installment of the film. Also the license plates on the vehicles are jersey. Anyone know????
Too cool. Over these last few years, I've been been to a gerne convention, like Monster Mania, in Cherry Hill, NY or anything, but I would love to go after surfing many Horror sites and seeing reviews for the better ones.
I'm a huge Jason Voorhees fan, so meeting some cast members from the first 5 (my favorite) would rock. Next year I'm headed to Belgium, Holland and France but after that in 2010, I wanna head on over to the next Fangoria Weekend of Horror's if it's on the West Coast ...
Actress Dana Kimmell has such beautiful long, brown shoulder length hair and a very pretty face! She was dressed so 80's style in this film because it was made back in the year 1982!
Hey! Everyone started whining when we couldn't get Beowulf in 3D, well that's why. Silver Screen is out dated. And people don't understand the benefits of it. So we had to get rid of it to "please" our audience.
This same trailer is on the DVD, but it's cool to see it with this gritty look. Did you take it from a film source.
I'm too far away for this showing (I live in Wisconsin), but I did see this movie in 3-D a few years ago in Milwaukee. It was great. Anyone in the area of this showing, go see it!
I got the movies at home. Why would I want to go watch it in the theater, if it isn't 3D. Thats newline trying to make money after they bought the rights.
If you had read the 'description' you would have seen that we ARE running it in true, twin-image, polarized 3-D. Not flat. I have run the film in 3D many times at other theatres. The 3D quality is AWESOME ! And the film becomes actually very entertaining when seen in 3-D as opposed to flat. --'Geoff'--Boone 7 Theatre.
dude, i would kill to see this in 3D! :( I only live an hour or so away from that theater, and i'm pretty sure I was doing nothing on the 26th and 27th of October. :'(
Dude me too too. I have a close Los Angeles based friend and one in North Carolina, and both have theaters that play the polarised 3-D version. I know one in Toronto, Canada did years ago, before it closed down.
It's best to haunt the web. Since I live behind the Mason Dixon Line I would love to see the North Carolina theater one, but fuck it's so far away form me now. This, part 2, The Final Chapter and the midunderstood part 5are my favorite instalments and I would love to see it in 3-D.

Man, I'd love to go, but NC is just a bit far from Nevada. I did see it in 3-D when it first came out though. Still have the glasses.
