Had to use a European country cause none of our federal programs are being privatized to make an example. We've been nationalizing programs for years and the results have been bad, where as some socialist leaning European countries are moving to private market solutions with good results. Just trying to make example on big scale. And as for Mexican gas,if you nationalize a product,you can sell it as cheap as you want,but your going to have to make up for that loss somewhere else in your economy.

Unfortunately, on the federal level, the trend is to nationalize rather than privatize, but here are some examples: I don't like Guiliani at all, but he saved new york $6.2bil by privatizing city services through the 90s. The city sold it's tax leins, radio stations, and tv stations, contracted wastewater disposal, hired private contracters to confirm public housing eligibility, privatized the maintainance of central park. These programs were cheaper, more efficient and made profits.

I got a lot more if you want, look at what Margaret Thatcher did with the privatization of coal oil and rail companies in England in the early 80's. It's working all over the world, just not in our federal government. The government has no incentive to outperform anyone, because they are the only game in town. I do live in a rural area, lived without cable for years, and eventually enough people started wanting cable that it was installed. As for electricity, state programs and taxes should be used for that if there is no private alternative and it is allowed by the state constitution, but it is not allowed federally
