  • Tim shows his strong Atheism by singing a song thats chorus is meant to praise a god he doesn't believe in. Yet, he still kills it.

  • @TheJuiceDean because he is God :)

  • loved it. Go Tim. great voice man!

  • perfect example of why we don't need religion to enjoy life

  • I love this whole thing! I just love it! awesome!

  • i am in LOVE!!!

  • I really love how the woman starts her verses then goes alittle overboard lol But still fine nevertheless. And I'm impressed Tim's so good when he's drunkish haha, nice chorus though!

  • Ugh...where are the kleenexs? Loved it...one of my fav songs , dominated by Tim.

  • ohhhh you're fuckin' kiddin' me?

  • OOOSH

  • free

  • the guy !!! what a great voice !! I just loooooove his voice and the strengh he's puting on the song, greaaaaaaaat

  • they didn't form a harmony in the first attempt, the second and third were really good, stop bitching

they got abit carried away though lol :P

  • 1:11 She so wants him!

  • I had the pleasure of seeing him perform this live as his second encore when he was at Lupos Heartbreak Hotel in Providence RI. IT WAS FUCKING AMAZING!!!! This mans that precious nugget of happiness. I only worry that he'll never be able to one up himself because I sure as hell know that other entertainers will never be as clever, talented, and entertaining all in one package as this man. Tim is god!! Readers, please don't shit on my Hyundai.

  • I had the pleasure of seeing him perform this live as his second encore when he was at the Warner theater in DC. IT WAS FUCKING AMAZING!!!!

  • One of the best interpretations of this song I've ever heard. Truly beautiful.

  • @rkwlamb you are a idiot. mother fuck

  • @rkwlamb

    False.

  • it's a pity, both have rly nice voices, but they don't harmonize...=(

  • @LiservanIronique so true

  • @LiservanIronique They do, they just don't do it well.

  • @TomLikesGuitar don't you hear that they are singing against one another?

  • @rkwlamb O RLY?

  • @rkwlamb

    Shut up.

    --The Founder, two seconds ago

  • This is incredible.

  • This song is so overplayed and overdone and holy crap everyone and their frigging cat has covered it...but when I hear a rendition like this, I can't help but continue to love it. <3

  • He's so talented, I love everything he sings. And, the woman has such a wonderful alto voice. What a fun video!

  • He is so incredibly talented. I never cease to be amazed.

  • shivers start at 4:19.

  • Not sure what you're all talking about, Geraldine Quinn is holding her own while drunk just fine. Tim's voice is still the dominant one in the video and I think her deeper tones are a good compliment to Tim's higher pitched wailing. I think his fluxuations would sound pretty weird without her providing a solid baseline to play off of.

  • Minchin is amazingly compitant when pissed

  • that drunk chick is putting way too much into it and ruining the song. tim minchin rules!

  • This is simply brilliant. Until 2:30. I'll concede that she is slightly intoxicated, but Tim by himself is simply incredible.

  • That woman's fucking annoying and pretentious.

  • I would really wish, that the woman didn´t sing along...

  • The guy at 1:01... i think he was expecting the song I Love Jesus...

  • he is fantastic. But my god he pulls some funny faces.

  • So beautiful! I love the unpolishedness of this classic song. The duet songstress name is Geraldine Quinn. Nice one Tim and Gerry.

  • who's the women that's singing? I really liked her voice!

  • 2:24 "Dziękuję"?

  • This song just gave me goose bumps and a gigantic grin. It's cool seeing people genuinely in the moment.

  • I think maybe, just maybe, they're both a little intoxicated...

  • oh so nice

  • 5:17 makes me shiver

  • He played it at Laugh Or The Polar Bear Gets It last Friday. He got everyone in the room singing along. It was so beautiful, it was actually the most wonderful five minutes of my life, right up until I met him afterwards and he kissed me. Then that kind of surpassed it. But, oh, he has such a beautiful voice, it's unbelievable!

  • Oh how I love this song. And Tim Minchin preforming it is just priceless. And he's really letting his voice shine here.

  • 240p we meet again....

  • 240p guy, we meet again.

  • That tims wife?

  • @TRUEorFAKE Nope.

That is Geradline Quinn. His wife's name is Sarah. I've never seen her sing.

  • @yzScott Ah, Yeh I knew he was married to sarah, just thought 'was this sarah?' Thanks :)

  • you see by the look on his face he loves it

  • i really liked the womans singing!

  • does it have a studio version?

    hes fuckn awesome!!

  • Tim Minchin + Hallelujah = Fucking awesome.

  • How does this not have a million views yet :)

  • nice but no one has yet out done K.D. Lang's version

  • Let's clear some things up: the lady he' singing with is not his wife. His wife's name is Sarah, and you can see her in the Rock n' Roll Nerd documentary.

John Cale sang the song in the film, but Rufus Wainwright sang the version that was on the soundtrack CD. So they're both right.

  • It was Rufus Wainwright, you stupid bitch.

  • That chick is his wife -__-"

Been together since he was 17, they have 2 kids.

She has a nice voice :o

Only with the last part it was a bit too much. But it's still awesome.

And indeed what the hell is with the 'oh you're fucking kidding me' dude?!

  • People, this is a DUET. As in, TWO people sing. Tim sung the first half, and his wife/girlfriend (unsure if she is, just assuming) sung the second half, and they both blasted out on the finale.

I thought they were both amazing. :)

  • ..ever...

  • He must be the sexiest man alive...

  • Are you people serious? What the hell is wrong with her singing? She has an incredible voice.

  • He is going to be so big!....

  • @choquera

i hope not :D. I love him too much for that!

  • @PluralP hummm???

  • Comment removed

  • Who is that chick? Can't she leave Tim to sing please.

  • How drunk?

    NOT

    DRUNK

    ENOUGH

  • If anyone has the fantastic rendition of this song from Tim Minchin's Dallas concert, please put it on Youtube. I don't think it will ever make it to a CD/DVD because of the small mistake in the song, but it was magical anyway.

  • I saw Tim last night in concert and this is the song that he ended the show with (2nd encore). It was very surreal and sublime when an audience of irreverent and atheistic hippies joined along and crooned with an equally irreverent artist such as Tim. It was very surprising and a very, VERY nice ending to the night. All because of a beautiful song by the name of Hallelujah.. Also, I don't like how this woman sings it, like she's trying to show off her pipes in a song not made for it. :(

  • Hallelujah for Tim Minchin!

  • I wouldn't dislike the woman as much if Tim did a cover of this on his own. I think she's a good singer, but she's drowning him out. I'd love a copy where it's just him singing. <3

  • 24 people are Full Fledged Wankers....

  • My favorite version.

  • Amazing! :)

  • I absolutely love this video. Best version ever! :)

  • they are so hammered..i love it

  • I just found out from an interview he did, he's drunk doing this. What? He seems exactly the same lol :D

  • Big fan of his, but calling Buckley a wanker isn't cool.

  • @SaintCrow Too right!

  • They don't harmonize well--unpleasant--I love Tim and this song doesn't work well as a male/female duet.

  • Do you reckon she gets to call him "ginger"?

  • @Wimpoman I don't think that's appropriate! xD

  • @lemoniceluxe But she's ginger. Oh wait, I'm not, that's why. But how did you know? :p ;)

  • @lemoniceluxe Do you reckon she gets to dunk his gingernuts into his ginger tea then? :p

  • @Wimpoman Totally xD

  • @Wimpoman im thinking of dying my hair ginger so i can call ginger ppl ginger :)

  • @emtabby What are you going to do for freckles?

  • @Wimpoman His wife might not approve.

  • @yzScott Oh... I made the assumption that she's his wife. Is I wrong? :(

  • @Wimpoman Definitely not his wife, but it is easy to think that from this.

I used to think that until I knew a lot more about him and his wife Sarah.

  • @yzScott I guess I should've gone to google. lol

  • tim minchin's actualy good but the women is utter utter SHIT

  • @mantalow She's actually phenomenal when she's not drunk -- they both were three sheets to the wind here it looks like -- but she does better solo. Not in her element with this as a duet. But that's the Fringe -- you can never tell what combination is going to fall together there, and oftener than not is totally one of a kind and one for the ages. As for him -- he can sing this like he was born to it, because he's a total chameleon who groks the elemental nature of any music conceivable.

  • I was crying by the first line.

  • No, the comment "Are you ****ing kidding me?" is the most romantic comment ever said.

  • *song starts*

    "Oh your fucking kidding me"

    what a lovely man (1:01)

  • @timaay657 I imagined that was because of his amazing voice?

  • I actually quite like the woman singing, I don't think she was so bad. If I had to judge i'd say I preferred Tim's singing but I don't consider that to be a comfortable or restful answer, it was a joint performance and I liked it.

Obsessing over the individual contributions is redundant.

  • @Omnilegence She's wonderful. She's not time, but we're all bias or we wouldn't be here. amen. :P

  • @Omnilegence It really is. They're just two friends having some fun. It's not like this was supposed to be a "serious" performance, it's Tim Minchin.

  • very good dude but tha chicks bit pissed i think

  • Who IS she?!

  • Wait, that female isn't Minchin's wife? I thought it was, considering her voice and both Tim and his wife went to the same entertainment school.

  • @FFXfever The wife has black hair.

  • @Omnilegence What give you that impression? His animation in "Storm"?

Even so, hair colour can be dyed.

  • @FFXfever Look, the woman singing here is called Geraline Quinn, look her up if you don't believe me. And no, the reason I thought the wife had black hair was due to me seeing her in a YouTube video talking about Tim.

  • @Omnilegence His wife also has a different face.

  • why the hell is everyone just talking about tim? that woman has a totally amazing voice! I'd do both of them

  • Tim is fucking amazing and sexy!!!!! I want him

  • @Shellabellabee3 so do we all darling, so do we all...

  • Beautifull ! I also like : Bon Jovi and Milena Walosik - Hallelujah

  • 4:20 She frightens me. Orgasm more =\

  • geraldine quinn's a great singer!! don't be mean!! :P

  • i hate the woman she spoils it tim is to amazing xx

  • it was rufus wanker

  • @cttjcb: if this song was written using classical allusions, like hephaestus and aphrodite or something, would that mean that the author (or singer) actually believed in those gods?

  • @cjttcb: spiritual is way different from religious, and anyways leonard cohen is jewish--he reconciles buddhism by stating that since zen buddhism is more of a way of mindful living and doesn't worship a deity, there's no conflict between the two. either way, this song is about a relationship between a man and a woman using biblical metaphors (david and bathsheba, samson and delilah).

  • I think this may be one of the best versions of this song I've ever heard.....It sends shivers down my spine and brings tears to my eyes.

  • if you just watch the woman on the right it's fricking creepy. she pulls the weirdest faces... and i kinda think she spoiled it

  • Whoa, I've got goose skin.

  • tim: "once there was a secret chord -"

unknown person in the background: "oh, you fucking kidding me!"

  • @CyberWallX

That person in the background is a jerk.

  • Awesome dude

  • Heard Tim sing this live a couple of weeks ago after his regular performance as his encore. It was awesome to hear him sing it live, but I kind of missed the harmony. I don't know who the lady is but she has a beautiful voice.

  • @AMarsdenDev That is in fact what most people expect, and they go leave nasty Youtube comments for anyone who doesn't go along with what they want.

  • they both sing really well although i don't have a clue who the lady is

  • @failure2launch , I know the song was written by Leonard Cohen. The guy is very religious. Cohen spent like 5 years in a Buddhist monastery. The song isn't a hymn but it's far from nonsecular. And when something is "couched in biblical terms" that makes it subject to ridicule by atheists regardless of whether or not you sing the song at church. And all I was saying is Minchin makes fun of these kinds of this kind thing constantly and I'm shocked he was able to restrain himself.

  • @cjttcb I guess you're right, but on the other hand, the power of a song like this can make anyone "suspend disbelief" for the purpose of the performance. I mean, the story behind the lyrics, while couched in Biblical imagery, is universal, as are the particular biblical passages it refers to. Plus it's one of the greatest, most powerful songs ever written. If you appreciate great music, you'll be moved by Whitacre's "When David Heard," for example, atheism notwithstanding.

  • he sounds like a country singer around 2:20 ...

  • Jeez Tim I understand you need to indulge in a serious song but how did you not burst into flames singing a religious one. And the "Faith was strong but you needed proof line" No joke?!?! off your game bro.

  • @cjttcb, this song was written by leonard cohen and although it's couched in biblical terms, it's not a hymn or anything.

  • I love how absolutely stunning this was, despite the fact they were both completely drunk. I think it actually helped rather than hindered. More emotion. Just beautiful.

  • I would have preferred Tim singing it alone, but she is really good. It was actually pretty intense to see them singing together.

  • any idea who this woman is? She seriously brought this brilliant Tim performance down

  • Holy shit, that was a great performance by Tim.

  • She thoroughly ruined that performance...

  • I've just come.

  • Don't push the button. Tip if your about to watch the video.

  • It was good, until she started singing...

  • Really expected him to say:

"Well maybe there's a god above (probably not), but all I ever learned from love. . ."

  • I will marry him. And her. And we will do things.

  • OMG the guy with the guitar's in Gud o.O

Oh yeah, and Tim's amazing... :)

  • annoying women, she's wrong about the shrek OST it was Rufus...

  • @AlbanZap Actually, John Cale sang the version that appeared in the film. Rufus Wainright's version was on the soundtrack.

  • Um, the girl is (a) not his wife, (b) hot and (c) a bloody good singer. What's with the whinging?? :-)

  • wish i had witnessed this o.o ....... must've been quite a memory =)

  • I'm so disappointed that there isn't a recorded version of this song that doesn't include the "you've got to be f*cking kidding me" guy at the beginning and the drunk chick who cant keep the key. I would pay so much for Tim Minchin's recording. His is the best version i have ever heard! I just love Tim Minchin's voice...

  • The girl is clearly drunk.

  • Who's this girl? She's annoying me. I'm trying to listen to Tim Minchin. Shut up, annoying-sing-person. Get off the stage.

  • To the people knocking the woman, she's got some good pipes on her. Shush.

    And it's probably his wife.

  • Should of just let Tim sing it! The girl was wayy to overpowering and well ruined it

  • Should of just let Tim sing it! The girl was wayy to overpowering and well ruined it

  • whos the woman?

  • @laparkerfamille it wasnt, he was only on the soundtrack, not the movie itself

  • *Eargasm*

  • Tims cute even when he's slightly ... tipsy :)

  • "I love you"

    "Shush now..."

One of the most romantic things ever said...

  • Why are beautiful moments always ruined by idiots in the audience shouting out whoops and stupid comments?

  • she murdered it

and she looks like a donkey when she sings

  • she murdered it

  • The 23 dislikes are obviously just too stressed out because they are jealous of Tim's talent

  • What. The. Fuck. Mr Minchin where the hell did that come from???

  • wish that bitch would shut up

  • I dunno why, but this is so much more amazing because they're so clearly pissed, and they still sing it well.

  • The girl wrecks it for me, but other than that so much respect for Tim Minchin

  • The girl wrecks it for me, but other than that so much respect for Tim Minchin

  • Dudes Awesome, I feel Jeff Buckley can't be beaten for randtions of this song but Tim's awesome and a small intimate performance like that is an unforgetable experience for those lucky enough to be present.

  • 5:17 blew me away and for them being drunk this was amazing Tim Minchin should sing more songs like this

  • Ok, all i wish from now on is Tim Minchin singing on my birthday!

    (
