It's up to filmmakers to operate with zero dollar budgets and screen their films in local cinemas or town halls or even outdoors. They need to do their own promotion advertise locally. Build up from the bottom. Get recognised. Stop relying on people with money to control your next move.
Can't wait to see the movie. This issue is on every Australian film lovers mind. Can't wait to see what the professionals think.
Just revuisiting my previous comments - a lot of films are made by writers and directors hoping to 'get noticed'. These films are almost about their next film or their career and the audience is the last thing on their mind.
The directing seems to scream 'look at me!.. I can deal with the hard issues of mental illness, sexual and emotional dysfunction... ' blah blah blah.. If their films made money they would get another film
The elephant in the room is that its bloody hard to make a good film and most of the people who do it in Australia are shithouse at doing it. The audience loves good films and ignores shit.
The Australian film industry spends more time wishing the audience liked shit more than sugar!
Hollywood treats the entertainment of people as a business where the customer is always right.
Draw a line under the whole exercise and call it a day for Government funding.
Start making films for the audience instead of your film buddies. The industry did it to them selves when they thought they were better than the audience. When every director wanted to be the next Kubrick. When every filmmaker conformed to art house, a single niche market of film. its all your fault

Oh yes - The 'great' Kogarah Mecca... How we miss thee. They would NEVER play an indie - so i don't know why you'd shed tears over them.
