This and the men's race were so exciting. I was living in Mission Viejo at the time. We had staked out a spot along Marguerite Parkway at Via Guadix park to watch the racers go by and then would run home to watch on TV. I remember that Alexei Grewal won the men's race outsprinting a Canadian. I think Jeannie Loungo of France was in the women's race and I noticed she was competing in Beijing. 1984 was a wonderful time.
Connie came out of nowhere and Rebecca didn't see her until it was too late. I had the opportunity to chat with Rebecca on several occasions, she's a class act!
Grewal's finish was awesome, to out sprint Bauer after such a long race, can't find it online so stuck with the VHS recorded back in 84

I was in the 7-11 van on La Paz Hill. We shot to the finish line where we all got big hugs. Rebecca is awesome.

Yeah, Longo was in this race, and was in fact with the leading group here, but punctured close to the end. But we hadn't heard the last of her . . .

neither one timed their throw very well. Carpenter way too early and Twigg too close to the line
