I had a pretty red betta fish with blue eyes in a tank like this. HE was so happy. His name was Red (so creative lol) I liked the betta fish and i used to have videos of him, but then one day my sister got one and she didnt want to buy another bowl or tank so she put him in there, and when I got back from camp, there was no more Red. D: He lived a good 3 years.

I put my male in with four fancy guppies and a female betta. Sometimes I keep male bettas with a female or females. Depending on the fish, they may or may not get along right away. Sometimes the female fends off the male and he stops being agressive, sometimes the male picks on the female, and sometimes they are happy together right away. Depends on personalities of different fish. If male picks on female, add some more females or guppies.

My male was in with my female alone at first, but he kept picking on her so I got 4 guppies to distract him. He is totally fine with her and the guppies now, and the female and male betta actually hang out together quite close, sleep together, swim beside each other, go for breath at the surface at the same time... etc. They have been together for only a few days.

18koopatroopa: my CT got really nippy by a male hi fin platy - soon recovered and as good as new two months on so chin up on that......the platy didn't do so well! I couldn't risk it as my betta (Tsuni) is dear to me.

I have a red halfmoon betta. I have a problem. His fins look like there getting ripped. he has a 2 gal tank all by himself so he is not getting fin nipped. Do you think its the plants? I have a bamboo and a water sprite. Not sure whats causing his fins to rip. PLZ HELP!!!

@18koopatroopa He may have fin rot. You can get medicine at your local pet store. The product i prefer is Tetra Fungus Guard.

@18koopatroopa how often do you change the tank water? I'd check first for fin rot first, unless your betta's not losing any of his tail. If his tail is only getting shredded I find that some filters will suck betta tails in and shard plastic plants can do the same damage. None of your plants would harm the tail, do you have any plastic ones?

@Purality I went ahead and bought some Tetra fungus guard. My betta is doing a lot better. I noticed he was being fin nipped by my serape tetra. I took him out and isolated him. He did get fin rot from his Finns being wounded but now he is healing just fine. Am a little mad that his beautiful half-moon tail got damaged but at least he's alive. I wonder if he will ever grow his tail back to normal. Luckily the fin rot didn't damage the tail that much. thx for your help =)

@TDWP1804 While you can keep bettas with guppies you do have to be prepared to separate them if necessary. In some cases the betta will mistake the guppie for another betta and start fighting. He wasn't lying just giving advice.

@MrGman0909 really? that's news to me... got three guppies in with my betta, including mollies and platies. no problems.. Pet shops are stupid about fish compatibility. Bettas are compatible with almost any fish. Actually what you have to worry about are the other fish abusing the betta. Do not put a betta in with tetras. Did that once and they stripped the betta of all his fins.

@SmittyKat It depends on the betta, some are placid enough to get along with other fish, but the fancy guppies with the extremely long tails are at risk with male bettas. You shouldn't keep mollies in with bettas, they really do do much better in brackish tanks. Putting bettas with some tetra species will work and even the fin nippers like neons have managed to coexist.

@Purality hmm. Well I'm only speaking from experience. I had a betta in with some black skirts and cardinal tetras and they tore my poor betta boy to rags. *shrug* although some people don't realize, like you said, that some fish can coexist peacefully that aren't necessarily meant to. Regardless of what people say, fish do have personalities. Not as obvious as, say, a human, but a personality nonetheless. This is what makes selecting tankmates tricky.

I also have got one. I am from Portugal, and here it is dificult to see good bettas in store. But I found a Mustard Gas, a Black Copper and a White Betta (all HM) in a store. I only brought the White.

Did you have any special care with him, just because he is white?

Right now I'm living in a temporary place, and the only fish I have are some zebra fish, silver tip tetras, and a betta in a small aqarium. They get along great. My betta is pretty ordinary looking, at least as bettas go. He is a dark red crowntail with royal blue iridescence. He's vigorous and active, just like yours and that's why I picked him out of the bunch.

My sister and I have had quite a few Bettas in our lifetime... I had Rainbow, then she got Tina. They both died. Then she got Poison, and I got Antidote. Antidote died, and after a good long life, so did Poison. Then came Biggie Smalls, who sadly only lived a few months. Good times.
