Thank you for posting. I don't think people realize the importance of this little bit of film. It's amazing to watch this and think of how far we have come with cinematography and the art of film. These people had no idea that they were pioneers in what would become a multi-billion dollar industry.
@dbo1300 multi-trillion and it is amazing how far film has come with giant robots tranforming, blue aliens fighting humans on another planet, giant ships sinking in the atlantic, war and crime movie, and 3D
Some of the actors in this film and the creator met weird deaths. Wiki the title. The creator disappeared right after he finished this before he could even show it and the guy walking out front is his son who was shot dead. The old lady also died right after this made. thanks for posting it, it's nice to have access to rare stuff like this instead of the old days where you had to visit a museum.
Hmmm. I didn't like it--there wasn't enough emotion and plot development--it was just too simple. And the acting wasn't great either; the leads totally lacked chemistry and they seemed so bored throughout that is was almost as if they were just walking in circles throughout. Also, the whole thing felt too rushed--it was so simplistic and intellectually dull that it might as well have been 2 seconds long. And the ending was really bad--it seemed stale.
The film was so focused on Aldolphe that the arc of Joseph and Sarah is hardly touched upon. The love between Joseph and Sarah, who is walking backwards throughout the entire film, creates an air of mystery that may be overlooked during a casual viewing. Joseph's implied affection for Sarah is left very open ended, though their brief interaction could be seen as a sign that Joseph's presence will be the change in Sarah's life that will set her on the straight and narrow path forward in life.
Imagine if this guy knew what he started, and that movies such as "Porky's", "Weekend at Bernie's" and "Joe Dirt" would be produced. I'll bet he'd have destroyed his camera on the spot.
It's amazing to see how far movies have come in only 120 years. We've gone from 2 second silent films to 2 hour films, computer effects. It really is incredible.
A 2 second movie, Ithink this is THE shortest movie ever made! Just think how movies, video games, music and many of todays entertaining mediums progressed
Except that Edison and those French guys didn't base their studies off of this guy's technology, so if this guy had never existed, the film today would be the same.
You guys are morons, do you realize what this represents in the history of film? With out it, we may not even have the sophisticated digital effects we do today.
This amazingly complicated piece of beautiful art tells a complex story of a man's delicate dance around the lust for sin (represented by the woman) and his eventual realization that no matter now far from sin one has tip toed, the afterlife (represented by the black par on the right) may not be quite the ending one has hoped for. The controversy in this film is the fact that the ending is missing, possibly on purpose, and is completely left up for the viewer to interpret.
