Well you see bigtinyretard (how can you be both by the way), this is part of a movie from 1967 with a small part featuring the L.A. band called Clear Light. I have the first and only album by the group and it's great but really underrated. If you like bands like The Doors, you might really dig Clear Light. This was filmed before they got their lead vocalist Cliff De Young.

The music's sounds good but this is a Hollywood movie-so I don't care for it-what's so funny is if these guys are supposed to be anti-establishment why the in the hell are they sporting goatees and beards and all that shit? Isn't that a sign of the establishment, the older generation? Weren't they the pre-teen kids of the 50s? Faulty philosophy here, I see. And James Coburn is just as bad as Leonard Nimoy pop singing about Bilbo. Phoney!!!!
This is 1967 - it's a pretty maverick movie of the time. Hey, the Beatles were just sprouting facial hair, which was quite freaky then. James Coburn was in disguise, hiding out among the hippies here, and Barry McGuire and the Clear Light band had proper cred. Just curious, how old are you, in a non-insulting purely curious way?
Well, Moby Grape have a track called Mr Blues on their first album, but it's a different composition to the song recorded by Clear Light is a cover of a Tom Paxton tune.
Is this the band that had the song , how many time , to whip you into light a broken head, Something like that , its been 40 years . Great band , little spooky on acid .
From 66-69 that is the only kind of music we all listed to record , along with Fraternity of Man, sad only don't Bogart me gets played from that cool group , 13 Floor Elevators , now rediscovered and Fever Tree .
Sure is, the track you are refering to is Mr Blue, a cover of a Tom Paxton track which was, I believe, popular with the guys fighting out in Viet Nam. You can hear it on the Clear Light album.
Fraternity of Man are way under-rated nowadays, they had some great material which was much beter than the "Bogart" tune.
Fever Tree too, four albums with some fantastic moments but really only known for their "San Franciscan Girls" 45. I wish I had some footage of those guys to upload here!
Mr. Blue was a song that Bob Mosely did on the Moby Grape album, the MR. BLUE Clear Light did was a different one, wasn't it Pete Seeger's?

Their bass player is Doug Lubahn, the same who played "occasional bass" on the Doors studio albums...

Saw this in Los Angeles when I was about 10 years old. They'd find the absolute crappiest music for hippie scenes, hilarious.

I gotta see this movie! This song was the B-side to Black Roses which I am fortunate enough to have. Thanks ebay!

We're all gonna die one day and go back to dust. I'm 41 years in age going on the four two.

Thanks - I'm a slightly dustier 54 myself.
This really is a cool movie, and very much of its time, and the band of hippies are some of its most sympathetic characters.

I'm quite certain that Moby Grape did "Mr. Blue".
(On the album with the washboard middle finger.)
For some reason I always thought they were covering an old song, so maybe it started with Clear Light, though they were approximately contemporaries.

Wasn't Doug Lubahn the Bass player on the Doors 2nd LP?
guitargreats1 3 years ago
Yep, he played bass on Strange Days, Waiting for the Sun and some of the Soft Parade album. He has a book out - try googling for it.

Wasnt Black Roses the first Gothic song? Did they have 2 drummers?

Yes they had two drummers. "Double drumming." This is emphatically stated on the first LP, in 1966.

yeah, the ending implies so and I read somewhere that they used to be featured in a movie...#
