Too bad the Raelene pulled up with a tore archillies tendon in the second round, I am sure this would have been a piece of cake for her, if that hadn't happened.
Denise was always a great athlete but suffered tremendously from nerves, she ran 11.0 sec for 100m in 1973, breaking Raelene Boyles Commonwealth record, yet was only a bronze medalist in the 100m in 1974., behind Boyle, Over 200m she was a top athlete, In 1980 she ran a Commonwealth Record 22.35sec 200m, again breaking Raelene's 22.45 record from 1972.
Denise Boyd was a terrific athlete but always seemed to be overshadowed by Raelene Boyle. Anyone who can compete in two Olympic finals is no slouch. She deserved this win. I'm surprised she didn't compete in more 400m. Her long stride would have been suited in that event. But then again this was the Koch era so probably would have been pointless given what was going on with the East German's back then.
yeah of course you are right there, Boyle was coming to the end of her 100,200 career and moved up to 400m soon after.Lannaman deserved her win, and had her own injury problems in 76, which was probably Boyles best shot at 200m, Was disqualified there for two false starts, although the first was a dodgy call.
Guess you are a Raelene Boyle fan ! unfortunately you have to be fit on the day ! how many races would have been won by other people at major championships ,if only they had been fit'? The Aussie pair were very good athletes tho.

Denise Boyd was a great athlete and deserved her gold medal here, after years of running in Raelene Boyle's shadow.

Great run by Denise Robertson-Boyd, Pity Raelene Boyle was injured though, she would have won this easily.
