1. He's teaching Hiragana, but accidentally said Katakana. Deal with it.

2. For ki, both the way he writes it and the way it shows on the screen are correct. When ki is written, it's supposed to look like the way he wrote it. When it is printed, like in a book, the one that shows on the screen is correct.
