I have 20 years in road construction, and i was taught never cut a back slope down hill, it starts at the toe and work up, after you are sure you`ve removed all the material possible with your pans
First of all half the comments people have been putting on here are wrong. The machine was articulated wrong blade was tilted wrong and not turned enough. Ive cut slopes way steeper and in worse material. Ive cut steeper and way better slopes with scrapers
And to pull this stunt off you have to be brave enough to relieve left pressure off the grader and have enough skills to have the grader stand up the proper way to be 70-80 ft in the air straight up and down if you don't believe that go to Arcadia and look at the hill you cant even walk up and down it. i wanna see you run a grader down that slope and im gonna watch you roll down the hill I PROMISE!! because there's no way to set a grader up to hold it on that steep of a hill!
For everybody who left a comment on here about the way the articulated was set up. has just proven to me they've never been on a motor grader. On this steep of a slope to have enough knowledge to even get on a slope like this to understand that the grader didn't try to turn over i stopped and did a wheelie stand while they were videoing.
@generationll He had it articulated as far as it would go! The slope itself wasn't tipping the grader, the hard patches/rocks were kicking the tires up. Keeping the windrow closer to the tire to help stabilize and moving the circle (and most of the weight) up hill would also help. Other than that the guy did an amazing job of knowing the machine limits and when to stop pushing.
@vantagetes Nah, I can see the waves in this grade. Machine was too small
and from what I could see he barely had the wheels leaned and it was barely articulated. The engine compartment was in line with the front end and not at an angle from the front frame. Having the circle lower would be far better as it not as easily tip the grader downhill. Are you nuts just or inexperienced? Down extension would apply more weight uphill would puch upward are you a scraper hand ?
looks good brother, cuttin slope is my favorite, dirt looks a little hard for a blade but for all you preaching about using a dozer you wouldnt get that perfect finish you'd have grousers prints from the tracks which doesnt look bad but you know what i mean lol keep it up man
hey i wouldn't say it was dozer territory if you ran a dozer along there you would most likely have to trim with the grader anyhow. i didn't see anything wrong with the way the machine is setup. with the blade downhill like that alot more is possible. As for being full rev (throttle lock ) have any of you ridden 2 wheeled motorbikes professionally. If you had you would understand the importance keeping the engine even, tight and in the torque.Operating a grader is a game of balance & skill
I would've thought of it as dozer territory myself, but if he got the job done, well good for him! Maybe that was the only machine they had there that day, and sometimes, ya gotta run what ya brung!! Carl B. Second generation Exc. contractor
Someone has already said it , but it is a lot easier and safer with front articulated upslope and it keeps tire tracks from being left on the slope. If it was me I would have the blade tilt forward a bit. Also if it's set up properly the amount of cut can be regulated with wheel lean and not have to touch the blade lift controls at all. I could never run full throttle like that, but whatever gets the job done, more power to ya.
Cutting on a slope is alot harder than it looks. I do have one thing to add though. It would be easyer with the rear articulated down. That would keep it from tipping easy as that was. Speed was actually a decent one because sometimes to cut hard material you need momentum. It wasent finish work so a little spinning and sliding means nothing. we all began or done stuff at one time or another. im sure someone though was born a finish man
Motoergraderman, you have said it right in my eyes. I have been on a motorgrader well over 25 yrs. If the speed is not there,it won't cut sometimes.
Fact is this too, when you get out in the "real world" that throttle had better be cracked wide open and the only time you see speeds 1-2-or 3 is when you are shifting into 4 to move. I doubt if any of these bashers bellow are going to make on a grader in the real world. Nuff Said.
In the real world where i am from, you operate a machine as if you yourself might be paying the repair bills. Operating in 4th gear with the throttle lock on is exactly how to get some repair bills,,,,, unless you are scraping minesite haulroads hey. But i cant bash this video too much coz i dont even have one up myself,
i cant help but think , maybe instead of buying flash pickups they could invest in a counterweight, some decent radial tyres and a blade pitch control lever
Hey Stinking,or is that stenching,or whatever, your self esteme must be extremely low to try and lay out a bashing on this operator, when in fact. you probably don't even know which end is up on a motorgrader. just callum like I see um.
There there, its alright mr Banjo man with no teeth, you can go back to your buddies and keep telling tall tales about how good you were, i am sure someone will believe you. have a nice day now ya hear :-)
Yea,Yea,you're just like a *T*U*R*D* hitting the water, make a little noise, then you're gone. So,just float on by,cause nobody gonna miss u when u gone.I 've seen em like come and go,always the one who screams the loudes and never gets any work done.
@motergraderman I think motergraderman is correct! It appears to me that the biggest problem this guy was having was the fact that he had the machine articulated the wrong way. The drive should be "downhill" when working a grader on a steep slope. It increases the pucker factor if you articulate the other way
@stenchking It is very obvious that he is a cowboy as is the guy that commented that to tun wide open while cutting hardpan slope was the only way to get momentum.....
Looks like some just want to bash a good man workin, don't pay any mind to trash talk. You're doin ok.Put it where the grademan says and you can't go wrong.
I don't exactly know what you have goin there, but as long as you're working you are getting it down to the grade the grademan wants, and you don't have time to motormouth like the past three bashers did to you. What I see is a person trying to get it done.

@Hduppln Doesn't matter I have seen many a dozer hand that could outdo a grader.
Grouser prints have no bearing on the tolerances.

what about a scraper .thats what they do'
hickynilton 2 years ago
@hickynilton Scraper is good . But on cuts it will spin downhill if not handled with finness. Not enough traction for slopes on hard ground.
