  • @indycolts4 The Transit City, Yes. Eglinton-Scarborough Xtown line, No.

Besides we need the 60ft 18m Semi Low-Floor Articulated buses in time for the closure. If you don't know when the SRT closes, it's after the Pan-Am Games in 2015, it'll reopen in 2019.

  • umm no he didnt he just shaped a bit diffrently oddly it would cost him alot of money just to cancel because metrolink is already funding it

  • so did ford scrap this?

  • Fast transit in Toronto, be it subways or LRT, has lagged behind sooo badly the last 30+ years.

Except for the Sheppard Line, nothing has been expanded since the 1970's !! And the number of people, cars, etc., has mushroomed like crazy. Whatever gets done, start doing it now.

  • @cheeriosinabowl Yes, Toronto is way too behind for transit planning and constructions. If Mike Harris didn't scrap out the Network 2011 plan, there would've been less disasters like now. Also, the ridership would've been at least doubled if the Sheppard line was built in full - Downsview to STC - along with more property tax (Lots of new condo along the current Sheppard line).

  • @bassplayer923

... true. And it will be YEARS before we see any new subway station (or line) opened. Toronto is racing towards complete gridlock hell. Maddening.

Look at the airport, we are still using the same old antiquated bus routes we have over 30 years ago! No rapid transit exists to or from Pearson. Disgusting for a "first class" city ! What are the politicos doing in city hall all these years???

  • Transit City will be just as fast as a subway if the following are implemented

-signal priority so that it will always get priority like a railroad crossing

-Proof-of-payment, all door boarding to speed up boarding times

-Coupled cars (2 or 3) for increased capacity

Los Angeles is a perfect example!

  • with reserve lanes, not only will the service be faster, the frikin traffic will be a million times slower!!! wtf, if theyre gonna tunnel underground anyways, why not make the whole thing underground, instead of wasting valuable lanes.

  • @prateek523

Wasting lanes is a lot better than wasting money, something the City of Toronto does not have, and probably won't.

Building subways also mean they are less accessible, because we won't be able to build as much, since it will cost more money. Being less accessible means less people in Toronto will be able to use the system.

I think building LRT's instead of subways was a great choice made by TTC.

  • I don't get why people get so down this idea. Cities all over the world have interconnected metros and LRT. There's only so much money that can be spent, so you need to implement a variety of systems or the system will not expand fast enough. People aren't 'brainwashed' they're being smart, you can have a little subway expansion or a major lrt expansion.

  • You people are being brainwashed. Transfer City is nothing other than buses on rails that'll operationally run slower than an express bus, wreaking havoc on local businesses. Subways are the only way to expand the TTC. A DRL subway paralleling Queen and King Sts inside the core and Keele-Weston, Pape-Overlea-Don Mills beyond it is what's needed like yesterday. Build LRTs instead, and be prepared to wait another 40 yrs before the opportunity to build suwbays comes along again.

  • hey, I love this idea and all, but if there's going to be an LRT like say on Sheppard, how are the drivers, say going north/south on Markham Rd. going to go?

Thanks.... can't wati for this LRT :-)

  • I'm pretty glad that TTC is at least trying (or at least the planning/construction people are).

I'd just wish the union would stop sucking all its resources so we could actually get these projects off the ground.

  • @takatomon sigh... i know

but u can't blame it all on union.. toronto itself had underwent very bad city planning...

our city is the utopia of modernists back in the 60s/70s who believed cars should connect a city... and designed cities in the scale of cars instead of human scale... these same modernist once proposed to make Spadina & Allen road into an expressway (and we see how well Allen road turned out to be..-sarcasm).. luckily the plan to turn Spadina into an expressway was dropped!!

  • 2:40 - 3:00

Doesn't the LRT look huge and bright compared to the cars.

  • my grandchildren will be dead before the city finds the money to build this project. like seriously, to make dedicated lines would involve essentially rebuilding the roads. look at St Clair. Its been several years and they still are not done.

  • If the LRT trains will travel on the road, I am just curious as to how cars will turn onto streets if they have to make a left, wouldn't the rails be in the way? Or are they elevated? Overall, great idea!

  • @ttcsubway209 it would be the same as the current streetcar rails that already run down every major street in the downtown area. the rails are built to road level

  • @ttcsubway209

On the official site and wikipedia, it is stated that a left turn is not allowed. But to confiscate for the problem, a u-turn will be allowed.

  • @ttcsubway209

    It'd be like downtown.

  • This looks absolutely sick. Especially since they are are uncoupled as streetcars but coupled as LRT. Multi-use! You guys must be thankful for what TTC is doing. We must must be original Canadians. We can't copy New Yorks idea for taking an over-sized trashcan with wheels and slapping the company logo on it. The new subway is really cool too. It is very eco-friendly too. You must remember that there would be a higher ridership in the near future.

  • Holy crap! This is a great plan! No more traffic!

  • @buddhdoesnotknowbest

Are you speaking sarcastically or truthfully?

  • @Scoinsoffaterocks

    I'm speaking honestly.

  • I am not a resident of TO, but when ever I am there, I always use the TTC. I am excited for all of these lines to be completed!

  • Shame that this is no more "light rail/rapid transit" than what is already found on Spadina and St. Clair. One of the key features of LRT is subway like station spacing (average 1km, more or less depending on density and activity of the operating environment). Stop spacing on these lines is going to average under 500m... in suburbia!

Any competent transit system would already have bus stop spacing like this in place, with articulated buses to boot. Only the TTC would consider this "rapid"

  • they shud make more subway lines then these stupid fater street car

  • You don't get it! A subway wouldn't be needed. It's going to be more used than normal buses but less used than subways. It somewhere in the middle.

  • @vineet123kumar123

Ugg. I am sorry but we don't need any more subways for now. Don't you know the sheppard subway was a fail. I think it is likely that part of it will be replaced by LRT but then it would be too short so there is a small chance it could disappear completly.

  • yeah really.

You have no idea how sick I am of waiting 25 minutes for the Long Branch streetcar.

  • this is exciting. can't wait till its done.

  • thats sick cant wait till that happens
